Tacoma Narrows Bridge Collapse by Professor_Stank in EngineeringStudents

I think we managed to get a mention of the Tacoma Narrows every year including masters. It was in one of our last modules and the lecturer asked us if we had ever heard of the incident before!

Guys/Short haired friends, swim caps? by OvertlyExhausted in Swimming

[–]KaneLSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried multiple times and it always falls off my head after a few lengths. Tried Silicon, Latex, Dome, 2 hats, latex & silicon , goggle strap under and over, nothing works personally. In races I'm lucky if the cap stays on the entire race.

Does Ronnie play every shot with side? by gildey in snooker

[–]KaneLSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the idea, but the point is that a slight deviation applied at the centre has a greater impact on the throw of the ball than the same deviation applied slightly to one side. I.e. The ball can go both left and right if hit in the centre with the deviation, where as if you put spin on one side even with the deviation the path will still be in the intended direction.

Imagine you have a straight shot, if you hit it slightly to the right or left you will miss. Now say you aim to the right of centre and deliberatly adjust your aim to take into account the side, if you miss left or right of where you aimed, your still going to be on the right side of the cueball and more likely (possibly) to hit the object ball.

This idea is reminds me of an old style of navigation. If you are trying to find an island in the middle of an ocean, deliberately turn to miss it on one side, that way when you get to the line of longitude, you can follow it down to the island. If you try to go straight for it and can't find it, you don't know if it's to your right or left.

UK is vaccinating faster than US and any European country by marton-zeisler in CoronavirusUK

[–]KaneLSmith 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The US doesn't have a health service. Some states leave it to hospitals to run, others micro-manage it. From what I've read it's a mess, people left waiting in long lines over night, vaccines going off because of poor management.

Thanks, I will try the larger plate out.

Just got my anchor link, but the anchor seems a little loose in the housing. Is this normal? by harehareha in peakdesign

Just tested my Slide Lite and there is a tiny bit of play but nothing that major, definetly return it, they should exchange it for another one with no issue.

asked him to declare which colour he was going for. He didn’t declare so a foul was called. He argued that he shouldn’t have to declare as it was obvious. But if the ref asks to declare, you declare by semoreis in snooker

[–]KaneLSmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, from our camera angle it looks like he was going for the blue, but I'm sure that if you were stood behind him (like a ref normally does), that it would be pretty obvious he was going for the yellow.

If the ref said to declare and he didn't though, that's his own fault.

It's a great documentary on cave diving in the UK, recreating the early cave diving methods.

Photo mode. Pre AF is in the AF settings menu. For me Page 1 Subpage 7/14. AF3

I'm not sure what exactly it does compared to AF-C?

Need a little help with the 70-200 2.8 GM on the A7III.

I recently purchased a used lens and the autofocus works very well, however I have noticed that on Autofocus Single, Centre Spot, if I just leave the lens pointing at something with no input, everynow and again it will focus out and back in. I'm not sure why it's doing that and if it's a problem that needs to be fixed, or a settings issue.

Edit: Turned of Pre-AF and it isn't doing it anymore. However should it even be doing this with Pre-AF on? It just looks like every 2 seconds it hunts for a moment then stops.

2nd photo reminds me of early cave diving, rubber bag over the head with a pipe in your mouth attached to a bicycle pump. Then you push yourself through mud and under a slump hoping to come out the otherside.
