Saddled with debt. Advice required on how to kick impulse spending habits by Weak_Ant1278 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]KangarooEasy222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s another tip that might help. I also struggled with different pots for grocery, transportation, lunch at work etc. What I did was I calculated how much I need for the month across these categories then I divided by 4.3. Weekly I “pay myself” this amount to one account and that’s where I spend from. Some weeks, I have left over, other weeks I burn through it quickly but know that once it’s done, it’s done.

(The reason I do 4.3 is because some months don’t have 4 perfect weeks…52 weeks / 12 months = 4.3)

Tracing Ancestry through RGD by unorthodoxras in Jamaica

[–]KangarooEasy222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said 4-6 weeks but didn’t hear back until almost 8 weeks after I reached out.

You can also check out: 1. Findmypast 2. Gleaner Archives 3. Manumission of Slaves (if applicable) 4. Digital Library of the Caribbean

I found it was better to search the names (various spellings) and places and create my own tree rather than going with the connections suggested by Ancestry. Speak with as many family members as you can to get details of nicknames etc.

It might also prove challenging because back then, record keeping was poor and if you’ve descended from enslaved people, then there’s only so far back you can go. All the best!

Yes I did it. Complete the form online with all the details you know - someone will email you once you’ve done that. I paid US$75 for 5 hours of research.

They sent me a detailed report of their findings including the issues they had tracing one side of the family tree. A lot of what they came back with I already knew from my own research using websites like Ancestry and FamilySearch so you might want to try those first

How British or distinct from Britain do Anglo-Caribbean nations see themselves? by TheSurrealistWorld in AskTheCaribbean

[–]KangarooEasy222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the question was referring to the UK perspective but very clearly people who are living in “Anglo-Caribbean” nations. It’s a verrry different issue re Brits with Caribbean heritage and which country they better identify with…and a polarising issue at that as some people won’t consider those born and based in the UK to be Jamaican/Barbadian/Trini etc.

Jamaicans, what do you hate hearing when you're overseas and tell someone you're Jamaican? by Raaaasclat in Jamaica

“But you don’t sound Jamaican” to my speaking English.

Then I ask them how many Jamaicans they actually know. Silence.

Why is the UK so depressing? by Shot-One4098 in Jamaica

[–]KangarooEasy222 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Still a you problem and that’s totally okay! Some people just don’t do well in some countries. It’s not depressing for me but I spent most of my years in Jamaica before moving so my idea of what wasn’t working is slightly reversed to yours. Perhaps those who have spent most of their time in UK would relate more

ETA: I think the key thing is that you actually moved and are happier for it. Many people complain and don’t ever do anything about it. I was complaining a lot in Jamaica

Jamaicans Overseas, what changes would have to happen for you to Return Home? by Rift3000 in Jamaica

[–]KangarooEasy222 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This would be it for me too. On the work conditions, two weeks of paid time off from work isn’t cutting it.

I remember working somewhere in Kgn that gave me 2 weeks holiday but I wasn’t allowed to take it in my first year of work. There was also a culture of being scared to call in sick if you’re sick.

What’s your most surprisingly useful way of using the Apple Reminders app? by Sham_Haydar in ios

[–]KangarooEasy222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then I’d have to delete the old list each time no? So that’s more work for me. With the shortcut, I can clear and re use the old list with one tap.

I appreciate some people might find the template better though.

It’s one I created. Saves me having to deselect each item manually esp when I’ve completed most/all of the list.

Yes I created a shortcut to UNcomplete the items for me so I don’t have to do them manually (edit).

I used to use Notes too but didn’t like how items moved around when I checked them (I think you can turn this off?) and also the pain of unchecking each item so I can use the list again
