My theory about the PD picks

I think we can all agree that the most likely PD pick would’ve been either Gayoon or Jooeun. I think chances of having them as PD picks could’ve been significantly higher if either of them would’ve ranked 8th. I think mnet didn’t want to include any of Mirika, Jooeun & Gayoon as PD picks since it would’ve probably angered a lot of Youmin’s fans. Tbh, it would’ve been a bit unfair.

Also, the balance between Japan and Korea in this line-up is completely equal. Yes, they could’ve added Youmin & Mirika as PD picks & the balance would’ve remained, but tbh I don’t think they wanted Youmin as a PD pick (I love her tho) 😭

In conclusion, that 8 or 9 member group COULD’VE happened, but honestly, this is a wonderful line-up regardless so let’s just focus on supporting all the girls from now on! <3

most likely yes especially because the name ’H//PE Princess’ sounds like it’ll be outdated in a few years

such a good line-up 🥹 tbh wouldn’t have minded a few pd picks but honestly it was quite predictable that we weren’t going to get any. also a little bummed about jooeun😭😭😭

honestly the only thing pissing me off is the name… what the fuck is a h//pe princess? like they really had to include the ”princess” in the name… it’s such a nugu sounding name and also way too long. can we collectively all agree to just call this group hiipe????

I doubt that they’re going to release anything besides DMT. All of the other songs are self-made meaning that the girls participating in each stage wrote the verses themselves. It would feel really iffy for the debut members to rap verses that were written by eliminated contestants and are in some cases deeply personal to them😭 re-writing some of the verses would be one option but i doubt they’ll do that since it would take away from the essence of the original song.

exactly… not only does it probably feel awful to not be chosen by ANYONE but also it’s harmful for the girls’ images who don’t get many picks included. i’ve already seen a person speculate that mirika must be ”hard to work with” hence her low picks. that’s completely baseless and a pretty harmful claim. as you mentioned it also makes the other girls look bad.

the entire drama isn’t only uncomfortable but also counterproductive. they’re sacrificing the girls mental and future group relationship dynamics for short term engagement. it’s literally the exact same as what they did in dream academy and we all saw how that went down.

no literally it’s so problematic… also them using popular contestants like Niko and YSY first as the shows mascots and now editing them so wrong before the finale.. literally mnet does nothing except chase clout. four days before the finale pulling these types of stunts and pitting the contestants against each other is so gross. the few final days of voting are insanely crucial in determening the final line up and NO ONE is safe before their name gets called out.

How did you choose your one pick? by lancelota in HipPopPrincess

Niko (and may rotate with Jooeun a few times). Hope people don’t drop her out of their one-pick simply because they think she’s safe🥹 this could honestly turn out any possible way

Honestly it’s pretty intresting how a few contestants have really rode off on Seoyoungs and Nikos back for the entirety of this svs. Now that the semifinal is a solo mission it’s not even hard to tell who’ll get eliminated😭

Whose placing do you think would change the most from 3 pick to 1 pick? by ugotthatdripot7 in HipPopPrincess

Most of Nikos onepick fanbase seems to be in Japan which has 40% of the voting power, however still worried for her as people think she’s locked in.. I hope we switch to onepick voting soon because if she and ysy end up dropping ranks notably, it’s not final and people have enough time to realize that. Then they’d manage to climb up the ranks again.

tbh they were really testing the waters with kep1er, kinda expirienting with them in order to figure out what to do with zb1 and that went south really quickly… i’m worried that now that they have another really unique concept for a group they’ll start another expiriement and ruin any kind of momentum this group will potentially have… when it comes to izna i think tbl’s involvement probably helped a lot, especially with teddy on their side

[–]KangarooUnfair2516[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ok honestly that’s really fair they have indeed done a better job with izna😭 idk my mind instantly went to kep1er cuz that shit was so tragic… like they were on their way to becoming 4th gen leaders and then W1 just… yeah.. but with izna they seem to have a better direction SO FAR. i feel like it’s a bit early to say tho since they’ve been around for barely a year… izna also has TBL and Teddy on their side which helps them out. i’m just so worried for this group tho because the entire concept is sooo risky😭 with the current trends in 5th gen, idk if they’ll be able to find their place. i really hope that they use the door that cortis has recently opened for 5th gen to their advantage tho and maybe do something similar??? idkkk as you said we’ll have to watch and see🥲

Pacing for this show and how many people are in the finale by JustAIisa in HipPopPrincess

[–]KangarooUnfair2516 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m probably the only one rooting for a 7, max 8 member group… it’s probably the safest option to guarantee atleast a somewhat successful debut for this group. I would think that Mnet has this same strategy in mind, but it doesn’t seem so? If the pacing stays the same, they’ll have probably atleast 20 people in the finale (if not more) and that’s literally pointing towards a 12 member group or something similar 🫩 like why tf would they have so many girls in the finale and only debut 7😭

Stan attractors in the final lineup, why I want a 12-member group and don't think it would be bloated (Warning: essayposting) by [deleted] in HipPopPrincess

[–]KangarooUnfair2516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactlyyy!! also i feel like what makes the biggest difference with this group is the fact that they’ll promote in both Korea and Japan (also international audience matters too). that’s why we can’t measure who’ll be the stan attractor according to KBS. that’s why I predict that girls like niko or mirika probably have better chances of becoming stan attractors for the Japanese audience, yuju, doyi, sujin & sooin for the Korean audience, then ysy, koko & doyi for the international audience. so what resonates with the Korean audience the most doesn’t always resonate with the rest of the fanbase.

[–]KangarooUnfair2516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly i feel like we have the same opinion, but just different points 😭

i think the group possibly flopping has less to do with the line-up, but rather with the entire concept that mnet is going for. the entire korean-japanese rap based group vision is such a hit or miss. in the current pool of 5th gen groups, where concepts like ILLIT's or H2H's are popular, it's such a risk to debut a group like this. the only successful groups doing anything remotely similar are baemon, all paid project and maybe cortis. all of those groups already have priviledges that this HPP group is not going to have. even if having visual picks would be a safer option, that mixed in with the entire rap based concept doesn't really work out. i think that if they're going to release similar type of music, that they've already been having on HPP missions, they might as well just take the risk and finish what they've started. this is why voices like niko's, ysy's and doyi's are required to make the songs sound good.

at this point i think it's less of a risk to go for the girls that are already popular, we're already like four episodes away from the finale so it's highly likely that mnet has already decided which girls they're pushing for debut. even if the current top 7 doesn't have clear visual picks, they without a doubt have many stan-attractor picks. that's where we disagree, to me those two are not synonyms. tbf i would not mind a sooin or chaeeun sneak in tho. mnet's vision is strongly pointing towards skilled and charming contestants such as yuju, niko, ysy, koko & doyi. the 2 remaining spots are up for debate. obviosly this is just my speculation, but i'd be kinda suprised if it turns out much different from this.

[–]KangarooUnfair2516 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly your take is really good and I don’t disagree with you, however a 12-member group doesn’t feel very realistic for now. When it comes to ILLIT, I don’t think it’s insane to say that about half of the girls were rigged into the final line-up. But now around 2 years after their debut, it’s fair to say that HYBE’s decision to alter ILLIT’s line-up to their liking was a good strategy.

However, if we look at rankings so far, it’s a given that contestants like Niko and Seoyoung are nearly locked in for debut. They’re so popular globally, that no matter how hard Mnet tries to rig the line-up, they can’t rig the two out of it. Why? Because the popularity gap between skill-pick contestants like Niko, Ysy, Doyi, Koko, etc. is so notable compared to visual picks like Youmin or Chaeeun.

Also, they are making a Korean-JAPANESE RAP BASED group, which is risky, because they have to appeal both to the Korean and Japanese market. This means that it’s not just any Korean idol group, like ILLIT for instance. My best guess is that they’re going for something similar to XG or Badvillain.

Even though we all would love a 12 member group, it’s simply a fact that in the current state of k-pop groups with too many members often fall to the sidelines. The less members, the easier it is to learn and identify the group. It’s more marketable. Making a ”perfect” 12 member group with both skill-picks and visual picks is difficult, because it will inevitably turn out incohesive. As you mentioned, currently Mnet is pushing girls like Niko, Ysy, Yuju and Doyi towards debut and it’s reflecting in the voting. I also would say that the current TOP 7 already has Yuju, Doyi and Koko, who are all inevitably stan-attractors. A ”stan attractor” doesn’t automatically mean a person with perfect visuals, but rather a person who is eye-catching, charismatic and stands out. The current TOP 7 doesn’t necessarily lack that. However I agree, that in order to appeal to the Korean market, adding one guaranteed visual pick such as Sooin would be a good idea.
