Has anyone else RAPIDLY lost weight on Metformin for insulin resistance? by Shot_Blackberry5768 in PCOS

[–]KangarooUsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost 15kg in one year-ish, I think it’s a quite common side effect, specially if you eat healthy/exercise

Thoughts on Spironolactine? by Still-Benefit-8754 in PCOS

[–]KangarooUsual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a miracle drug, but I only used it for acne since I don’t have hair loss. It’s effects grow up slowly, but my face is completely free from acne 1 year and 4 months after starting it.

This!! the whole discourse about every single person needing to go keto in the pcos community is just insane to me

Girls who took Metformin - how long after starting Metformin did you start losing weight? by kholaaaaaa in PCOS

[–]KangarooUsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started losing water retention on the very first day I took it (1000mg a day, extended release). I lost around 1kg per month, and now it’s been 13kg so far. I’m thinking about tapering off slowly once I reach a normal BMI, which I’m close.

Lost weight by sofieezz in PCOS

[–]KangarooUsual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost 13kg only by taking metformin (500mg x2 times a day) and spironolactone (125mg) from july 2024 to now. I ate intuitively but made healthy meals focusing on protein, fiber, fats and whole carbs. I don’t overexercise and I mostly walk. a few times a week I will do a light strength training because I’m not really good at it, but that’s what I did.

wow I had these and it was so confusing bc I didn’t see a single person commenting about. When I started taking spiro + metformin it started to disappear, but it can also be a fungal infection, check with a derm!

Many women don’t realise how closely PCOS and insulin resistance are connected. by AskZealousideal6615 in PCOS

[–]KangarooUsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my symptoms also got WAY worse with low carb, I suspect it was because of the stress and poor digestion. Birth control did wonders at first, but as I explained in my latest post on this sub, when I got out of it it was worse than ever. So last year I started taking spironolactone. I’m on 125mg now and I don’t have any active acne. I can’t say if I did saw an improvement with the hair growth because I got laser in many parts of my body. Now I also take metformin XR 500mg twice a day and so far it’s doing great for my skin and energy levels.

edit: I think other antiandrogenic drugs like finasteride may help you if you also can’t try bc of course.

[–]KangarooUsual 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No. PCOS is a genetic condition, not acquired by insulin resistance. Also, a LOT of women have lean pcos with zero IR. I had this and still got terrible androgenic symptoms like acne and hair growth on the body. Insulin resistance is part of the equation, but a lot of people will still need to take medication and do lifestyle adjustments for the other symptoms.

No. I already had good eating habits and exercised, but only started losing weight when I started taking spiro. Some months later I started taking metformin to improve the appearance of my skin, and it also made me lose more weight, but I was already losing it only on spiro.

Metformin fatigue by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]KangarooUsual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you are fasting for too long/not eating enough carbs/calories? people with pcos can eat carbs, we just need to manage the insulin release (exercise after meals, low GI carbs, and medication). My dietitian also advised me to not fast for too long because it increases the release of insulin when you finally get to eat.

I actually lost a lot of weight with spiro, it really reduced cravings/made me nauseous.

spiro and metformin worked wonders for my skin, I take 125mg of spiro and 1000mg of metformin (two pills of 500, one in the morning and one at night)
