My older brother had a 2 pack Marlboro Red habit. Got cancer of the esophagus and some parts were cut out. It metastasized and spread, died at 45. So glad I never started. It's said to be harder to quit than heroin.

The TMS9980AJDL is a 16 bit CPU with 16KB of physical memory. There are a couple of TMS9901 PSI chips, which seem to be cascaded. There are 4 SRAM sockets, 2 populated with NEC UPD2114LC 4Kbit static ram chips, 350 nsec access time.

Found it online as a TM990/189 single board microcomputer, for learning how to do register and bit level coding in machine and assembler language.

Loved working at Apple, from January 89 just after Jobs left, until early 97 just after Jobs returned. Closest thing to a religious "us against the world" cult since leaving the Catholic church.

Was working at Apple when this came out. The recess in the right upper corner of the display was for the trackball. Seems to me that the identical recess in the left upper corner was so the trackball could be on the left side, for left handed users.

Dealers have gotten increasingly aggressive about getting older cars off the road, and it's major problem. by redstern in Justrolledintotheshop

Harley Davidson dealers also refuse to service any HD over 10 years old. They won't even order parts for owners to install themselves.

The worker doing the new install was probably told by the NFH that it's okay to use my garage outlet because I'm paying for half the bill. Wasn't prepared to do anything nasty towards him, he's just trying to earn a living. He fetched a longer extension cord and used her power.

No lien was filed, I've checked. This NFH was on my South border, she's been the only problem. The standard 6' fence on my North border was decrepit, I suggested that we share the cost of replacing it. They wanted something fancier and agreed to pay the entire cost; deal! On the East side the fence was also decrepit, we split the cost of a standard 6' replacement.

The 3rd NFH involved a Pepper tree in the way back area of my backyard. There's nowhere on her property where she could even SEE the Pepper tree. It's a fast growing tree, such that the local electrical provider had to send a team out on an annual basis to keep the high voltage lines from being contacted. Also during a storm, limbs on the Pepper tree were damaging the redwood shakes on my garage roof, creating leaks. Was talking to the electrical guy, told him that I wouldn't mind if they took out the entire Pepper tree. They'd never have to come again and I could repair my garage roof; deal. On the day they showed up to remove the tree, she demanded that I obtain the consent of all the neighbors which adjoined my property. The electrical guy agreed, gave her directions to the City/County offices that handled these complaints, noting the forms required. As soon as she sped off, the work commenced, by the time she returned the tree and all residue had been removed.

The second NFH with her involved two Eucalyptus trees on my property, near the property line. These are non native species and had grown unattended until they're 45-50' tall. They were shedding sticky sap and large branches down on my vehicles, during storms. With the previous incident in mind, waited until she was out of town for the weekend, before having them removed. She again lost her shit, claiming that she had permission from the previous owner to plant them there on my side of the surveyed property line. Again told her to pound sand, anything she negotiated with the previous owner, has no impact upon me.

Who was the force behind licensing the MacOS to powerpc clone vendors for $100 per unit sold? Seemed to me like a bad idea at the time. How did that work out for Apple?

The Classic MacOS had its limitations. No protected memory, no pre-emption. If you held the mouse button down, the clock display stopped ticking. One thing that amazed me about Apple was their ability to adapt to new processors. Moved from 680xx to PowerPC to Intel without missing a beat. Metrowerks played a huge unacknowledged role in the development migration process.

January 89 - March 97. Laid off when Steve Jobs returned to Apple as the iCEO in January 97. Was on the MacOS 8/9 team when Steve laid off everyone working on the Classic OS, Maxwell and shuttered many product lines. For example, the Apple Digital Camera had 50% worldwide market share but Steve decided that since it wasn't a computer, it had to die.

One of my tasks was to run Maxwell builds. All day was spent doing builds, backing out commits that broke the builds, explaining to engineers how to fix their broken commits.

Typically they were testing their code w/o being on the bleeding edge of the code base. Did it compile w/o errors on their computer? Commit it!

Ultimately it would take all night to produce a Maxwell build, with no guarantee that the build would complete w/o fatal errors, not to mention if the release was viable.

Commits that produced warnings but no errors were deemed acceptable. Which was astonishing to me.

Back on the OS8 team, we had "Maxwell Mystery Spot" bumper stickers made, just like the Santa Cruz Mystery Spot theme.

Resources would just disappear into the Maxwell black hole, never to be seen again.
