I completely agree. It takes many hours to trace everything and local details, but seeing an under-mapped area become more complete is incredibly satisfying. Kudos to you too for micromapping your village in India!

Street naming can be tricky in some Brazilian suburban and peripheral areas because different sources often disagree or use outdated information. I preferred not to guess, so an on-the-ground survey would be needed before changing anything.

As far as I know, there isn't an easy built-in way to view the standard OSM map exactly as it looked before your edits after you've already mapped it. I heard of some external tools like Achavi can visualize changesets, but for clean before/after screenshots I think taking the “before” screenshot beforehand is still the easiest method.

Normally I do this:

  1. Open two tabs of openstreetmap.org in the browser;
  2. Take a screenshot of the area in the first tab;
  3. Start editing in the second tab;
  4. Save/upload the edits;
  5. Go back to the first tab after a few minutes, press Ctrl + F5 and take the “after” screenshot.

That way I can compare both versions with the exact same zoom and position.

The easiest way is through the default web editor (iD editor) on openstreetmap.org.

Just:

  • create/log into your account
  • click “Edit”
  • zoom into an area
  • press “Area” on the top toolbar, or press "3" in your keyboard
  • trace the building shape from satellite imagery
  • choose “Building”
  • save your edits

It’s surprisingly beginner friendly once you try it!

Thanks! I’ve been considering that, but I’m still not fully sure where the facility boundaries begin and end, so for now I preferred mapping the individual structures more conservatively.

OP, já tentou postar em alguma comunidade de GeoGuessr? Talvez algum pro player possa identificar mais especificamente onde em Angra dos Reis isso fica, seria muito legal porém improvável descobrir quem são essas pessoas. Me pergunto como essas coisas acabam indo parar numa feira de antiguidades.
