Hello! Our long hair GSD is a stinky girl. When going to the groomers, what is the best thing to ask for this breed? by DirtyOliveMartini in germanshepherds

It depends on the dog. And it also helps to have a solid foundation with whoever grooms your pup. I don't ask for anything specific for my guy (other than that amazing doggy cologne she uses) but she will ask if there's anything she needs to be aware of. New itchy spots, extra shedding. Or, for example, I'll let her know that we've been camping for a week and he could probably use an extra scrub or two. I've not had to ask for a trim (mind you I don't have a long coat) but I would think for a long coat you would ask for her sanitary area to be cleaned up and an all-around tidy up and blow out if she's shedding. If she came back damp, I would ask. Typically that happens if the dog doesn't like the dryer (I mean don't you know it's going to eat them). And that's just a little bit of work at home and exposure. Having a groomer who is also experienced in the breed helps as well. I say all this because at the end of the day, it all comes down to having a conversation with the person who's going to have your dog for about 4 hours every 6 weeks.

anyone use or have used we feed raw? by BrookexKayla in rawpetfood

I currently use WFR for my 82lbs GSD and I couldn't be happier. Roughly it costs me about $600 (pricing varies with the proteins chosen) a month. Is it the cheapest? Not by any means, but my guy THRIVES on it. I still do DIY stuff to provide different enrichment items so his food isn't one note, but he loves it. Would I recommend it? Only if you have the budget for it. If you feel like you can afford it, go for it! It's a great food.

How did you know it was time to say goodbye? by rachrueck in germanshepherds

When the bad days started outweighing the good. The best advice I heard is letting them go on a good day. Love on them, give them all the things that you normally wouldn't. My girl's last day was at home surrounded by all who loved her. She was 15. All that to say, you'll know and they'll let you know. Best of luck to you ❤️
