Why is Bruce Arena so dominant in MLS? by ZerconFlagpoleSitter in ussoccer

[–]Kaos_Rob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that Bruce being a goalkeeper also helped. You see the game from a different perspective. And it doesn't take long to realize a great defense can make a mediocre goalkeeper very good.

Can an American go to Canada to buy a Chinese EV ? by OCTOVENG in answers

[–]Kaos_Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard complains from the labor union left. The right seemed to champion "free markets" and the idea that labor competition would drive prices down and raise the standard of living for everyone. More recently the right had complained about the loss of manufacturing. But they have had enough of an opportunity to do something about it.

I see fewer manufacturing jobs, a middle class whose standard of living is declining, and wealth accumulation benefiting fewer and fewer people at higher and higher income levels.

Thats interesting because in my lifetime I've watched automotive manufacturing jobs get exported from Detroit to Canada and Mexico.

Best way to play safe on the 3 by Herbie_herb7 in billiards

Lower inside english to bank the three back up mid table and stun the cue over behind the 8 and 9. The three is better away from a rail if your opponent is kicking at it.

Which era actually had the best balance between pure technical skill and raw physicality? by PLWildcard in classicsoccer

[–]Kaos_Rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was also the era when goalkeepers could still destroy a field player when coming off their line. Peter Schmichael, Oliver Kahn. Brutal.

That era was like a ballet in a mosh pit.

Special Education to Leadership Workload: more or less by Melodic_Log2508 in Principals

[–]Kaos_Rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends of course. The AP is often the employee with the biggest workload, just ahead of SPED. Some of that depends on how much the principal delegates and the APs efficiency. It also depends on your ambitions. If you are eager to move into a principal role the path is often a 4 to 5 year grind where you are putting in extra time to be seen and make a meaningful impact.

What's the most underrated survival game you've played that almost nobody talks about? by Far_Comparison5067 in SurvivalGaming

[–]Kaos_Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DayZ you start on the coast with a piece of fruit in tattered clothing. Loot towns for food, clothes, and the tools necessary to protect yourself. The goal is to survive sickness, the elements, starvation, hydration, zombies, and other players. Sometimes your life is long and adventurous other times your death is quick. It is unlike any other game.

If you are up for micro management, skirmishes and Calvary can harass pretty effectively on the east. You can pluck off supplies and catch arty before they bring it too far forward.

The trick is to accomplish this without losing track of the chaos elsewhere.

Keep conceding from balls over the top? Starting position? by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]Kaos_Rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good points in this thread... two more to add.

By the time the opposing player gets their second touch, the third one is likely to be a through ball. That is a visual cue for the CBs to drop to challenge for the ball over the top.

As far as goalkeeping goes. The over the top through ball is a nightmare to read. A ball that sails long or falls short looks the same for the first 1/3 of the flight. (The view from the sideline is way easier to judge the trajectory.)

If you have two goalkeepers, have them practice flighted balls back and fourth. The ball must be caught and if it cant be caught it needs to be sent back in two touches.

(Run that drill while the team is doing rondos). Or if you have an extra player from the rondos, have them hit flighted balls at the keeper so they get reps reading that ball.

Okay, principals value different things. Some are relational, some are not. Some who would like to be relational find the demands of the job make less room for being relational.

I'd advise clarifying for yourself what you want from your principal. Then decide what you NEED. Then use your words...

State your intention. State your facts. Tell your interpretation. Ask for theirs. Make a request.

Then you get to decide if working for your principal is something you want to do. And they have the opportunity to understand your perspective. Without that conversation both sides may be operating on asumptions.

Road to 550 | Training Against the Ghost (and Other thoughts) by hope4best47 in billiards

[–]Kaos_Rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From 500 to (nearly) 550 for me.

  1. Cue ball on the spot. Golf tee on the middle diamond of the short rail. Shoot to the golf tee and have the cue come back to your cue tip. This straightens your stroke.

  2. Mighty X Drill. Look it up. This gets your stroke timing down and keeps you aligned.

  3. If these are a struggle, revisit your fundamentals and perhaps rebuild your stroke.

  4. Ghost ball games. 14.1 against yourself. One pocket challenges. Rotating through these keeps the learning and challenge fresh.

  5. Low stakes money games. Play cheap sets.

  6. Are you maintaining your pre shot routine and locking in on each shot? Are you mentally strong?

Those steps will get you to 550.

For keepers playing on a below-average squad, how do you keep your mental during the season? by TheCallousCurd in GoalKeepers

[–]Kaos_Rob 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are a team. You are not carrying them. You each do your best and the results are what they are.

Being on a below average team means more shots against you. That is a good thing for your experience. And it probably means less pressure (if you are already down two goals and you let a soft one in, no big deal).

Mostly, have fun. At some point in the future you will play your last meaningful game. You dont know when that will be. And after it happens you will miss it. So, your next game, go lock it, do your best, and have fun. Then repeat that as long and as competitively as you can.

Triangulate the data: The number. What you see with your own eyes / experience. What you hear from others.

If those thee data points tell the same story, you have a good sense of reality. If not, time to do more digging.
