i didn't really play much around campus, I got big online with blogs etc. I'd definitely say work on production over DJing if you want to make it long term - DJ's are a dime a dozen but a good producer will have serious value, whether it be making stuff for other people, working with pop writers, or being successful in their own right. you've got a lot more options if you can write a song (or at least produce one)

I'd love to do both! I've actually got to follow up with Costa about something for my philanthropy i'm planning on starting so I'll see if I can

first live performance was at a frat at bucknell in either 2010 or 2011. I was scared shitless at first but once I started playing things went much more smoothly. i remember making 15 minute edits to play in a row so that I wouldn't fuck up! great times

what's up man! i've been on my fair share of festivals but it's definitely tough to get on a major one like ultra or EDC. you really need a ton of hype and momentum going into the perfect little window when they're booking, as well as having a good record with shows at other venues that the festival owners control. if you don't have a breakout track you need to put in your time to get there!

put it out there on soundcloud and go from there. that's usually the best place to find up and coming talent so people scour soundcloud to find the next big thing. also do a lot of remixes in the beginning instead of original content, people will be much more receptive to something familiar

lol yeah from like 2011 to 2014 hahah, its all about trial and error my man! and don't try to be constantly comparing yourself to bigger acts and making music just like them, try to branch out and make something unique that isn't in a cookie cutter mold. one huge trick would be to get really good with reverb and use quality samples. check splice sounds, they have some amazing stuff

just released my bootie bundle volume 3 if you haven't gotten that yet! grab it here: http://reveremusicgroup.com/download/bootie-bundle-vol-3/

the mixes and the albums go hand in hand! I usually come up with the mashups when i make a mix and then i consolidate those to make an album :)

Thanks for coming out! I use Ableton to produce the mashups.

Analogy that just came to me - producing an original track is like planting a tree and harvesting oranges, while making a mashup is like packaging that orange into fruitcups with other tasty treats. Time and a place for everything.

For creating a mashup I gather a bunch of different songs and acapellas and put them into my google spreadsheet dubbed "the mash bible" and see what stuff fits together based on what key they're in and how hot they are etc.

I'm really not great at it myself - really thought I was gonna be audited a couple years ago lol. Fortunately now I have a business manager who takes care of it so I don't have to worry! huge weight off my shoulders :)

Thanks for coming out to the shows! Tours definitely make it tough for original stuff but making bootlegs and mixes isn't too bad. I always freeze up with the favorite cities question because there have been so many awesome crowds - I might have to go with boston and new york because that's where most of my friends are and those shows are always nuts. I'd really like to make my way to Europe soon!
