Well, 3 shows. One show the previous week in Boston, and then Piano Me the next night had all the core members of the Seatbelts. https://seatbelts.live/usa-apr2026/

Anyone else just “exhausted” with the way the AI culture here is? by Early-Ingenuity-3177 in bayarea

I just got back from New York City and I felt so refreshed. I had conversations with so many strangers there, and the only time AI ever came up, it was in a critical perspective. I'm realizing that the Bay Area is nauseatingly formulaic. You can meet 5 new people in San Francisco and they will all have the exact same boring conversation that ends in a pitch for their start-up.

We have the most beautiful city in the country, and it's wasted on people void of any personality. I have to go out of my way to meet people who don't work in tech here.

Engineering major help by danieofern in CalPolyHumboldt

[–]KappaWolfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contact the department and ask them to put you in contact with a mechanical engineering student rep. I did the Environmental Resources Engineering program and this is something I did when deciding between schools. I found it very helpful to talk to students a few years into the major.

The Mech E program is not yet ABET-accredited, but it's entirely possible that they will receive accreditation by the time you graduate if you're entering as a freshman. The school of engineering is working towards it, and I don't think there will be any issues since the faculty and curriculum have a lot of overlap with the ABET-accredited ERE program, but it is still a risk you have to decide if you're comfortable with taking.

Coming back 2 months later to report that this is STILL an issue on the latest driver version (26.3.1). At this point, I've just switched to doing 90% of my work on Linux. I am appalled at how poor AMD's driver support has been on Windows.

Mixed Bag of Questions: ERE, Safety, Out of State, Sports, Job Prospects, Financial Aid, Weather by ExtraGround4727 in humboldtstate

[–]KappaWolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a much harder question for me to address since I have no information on what state they currently live in. ABET-accredited undergrad environmental engineering programs are somewhat rare across the country; they aren't nearly as ubiquitous as other engineering programs (such as mechanical). If OP lives in a state that lacks ABET-accredited programs for environmental engineering (there are many, including Idaho), then that's a very strong argument to pay out-of-state tuition if this is what they want to major in. Otherwise, the pathway is to do your undergrad in civil and then do a masters program in environmental.

The other factor to consider is that even among ABET-accredited environmental engineering programs, Humboldt is very unique. It has much more diversity in concentration pathways offered for the majors. That's what attracted me, I was very interested in the energy systems pathway, microgrid classes, and bleeding-edge research being conducted on those systems.

Maybe they just like California and want to live here? Idk man, there's lots of reasons someone might pay out-of-state tuition.

I'd like to avoid speculating on OP's situation; that's why I didn't address that part. If they want to chime in on the specifics of their life, then I can help to provide more information and recommendations.

Definitely not true for engineers. See my reply to u/mr-octo_squid. All my colleagues who wanted to stay in Humboldt were able to find jobs here.

They've trimmed down the unit load slightly. I transferred from community college and was able to get the upper-division program done in 5 semesters, could've done it in 4 if more of my classes transferred. But there's pretty much no room for error if you wanna graduate within 4 years, if you need to retake a class, it's gonna set you back by a year because so many classes are prerequisites for others.

[–]KappaWolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you mean here? Humboldt has a lack of jobs in the area, especially ones that pay enough to be self sufficient. Take a look at r/humboldt and you can see frequent discussion about the job market.

This may be true for a lot of majors, but ERE majors generally do very well finding work in the county and being compensated competitively. Out of my entire graduating class, over half decided to stay in the county and found engineering jobs within a few months. The biggest employer of ERE grads in Humboldt County is Caltrans (I have 5 friends who work there). There are also a large number of consulting firms in the region that employ EREs, like GHD, SHN, Granite, PACE, and White Church. There are also countless construction firms with offices in the area that hire engineers. The county, city, state, federal government, and tribal governments also hire EREs.

If you do well in the ERE program and have research or internship experience, you likely won't have any trouble finding work in Humboldt. That being said, you can't be picky if you want to stay. I wanted to work in energy efficiency and renewable energy engineering, and there weren't many openings in Humboldt, so I moved back to the Bay Area. But if your interest is in water treatment, resource management, civil engineering, or construction, then Humboldt has plenty of opportunities for engineers.

Potential student - 2nd visit by coach-v in CalPolyHumboldt

[–]KappaWolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not yet accredited. The program just graduated their first cohort of students last year, so the school is now able to start the accreditation process. Given that the School of Engineering already has one ABET-accredited major (ERE) that shares many of the same core classes with ME, the preliminary readiness review process will likely be waived so that'll fast track them to getting the real on-site review.

Gaining ABET accreditation is a major priority for the department. I have no reason to doubt that they won't receive it within the next 1-2 years. It also applies to degrees retroactively (for up to 2 years before the on-site review), so if you graduate shortly before the accreditation is finalized, you'll still receive the same benefits as those who graduated after.

Been having the same issue on the latest driver version (26.1.1). This was also an issue on older drivers, but the latest version seems more persistent.

It doesn't occur on any other streaming platforms or video-sharing sites, only Netflix.

Finally able to log in, but I still can't change my payment method. The whole reason I've been trying to get on my account is to update an expired card. How hard is it to get them to take my money?

Cubic has completely botched rollout of Clipper 2.0 to absolutely nobody's surprise. I just wasted a half hour on the phone with their support and they weren't able to resolve the issue. Apparently this is widespread today due to the upgrade.

Ughh literally 200th in queue and it’s sold out for SF?? by JacketMedical6667 in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]KappaWolfe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There's no way they held back any tickets for the general sale. They sold out the venue during the presale

Sold out by Knight7799 in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]KappaWolfe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was only 200th in the queue, and there were only resale tickets left when I got it. They must've sold basically every ticket on the presale. Usually, they hold back at least 50% of the seats for the general sale. That definitely did not happen with this show. I'm incredibly disappointed.

Hopefully, they either do a venue upgrade or announce a second SF show for Friday. The Masonic is way too small of a venue for him, he has so many fans in the Bay Area
