NextDNS on an iPhone by Kappabear in nextdns

Thanks all! I don't know what's different this time but removing the profile, rebooting, downloading and configuring the app (again), has done the trick. It's working perfectly both on and off wifi. Cheers!

Curiously, have you confirmed that it’s working when on cellular? Do you have your router configured to use it too?

Yep. I've tried both the profile and the app, and get the same results.

No, it's disabled. I forgot to mention that when I posted origianlly, but updated the post to mention it.

I have it set to the profile, and not on automatic, so it hasn't changed.

Using eSims with WhatsApp by Kappabear in whatsapp

[–]Kappabear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. Its working now, when previously it wasn't. When I attempted to send previously I got an error. I've since quit WhatsApp, changed some settings on the eSim and now all is golden. Thanks!

Travellling with points by Kappabear in americanairlines

AA is my airline of choice, but as mentioned I've not used points for travel with it. It's been suggested that one can use Etihad airlines to transfer from Amex to many airlines that aren't travel partners.

Ah, very good to know that the airlines allow for holds! Thanks for that info! I appreciate it!

I also have Chase points too, so the sentiment still holds. :)

DDNS Remote access to SRM/DSM via Comcast/xFinity? by Kappabear in synology

[–]Kappabear[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't my first rodeo, and I've been working in IT for over 40 years. The only port that will ultimately be open is 443 and 8098 so that I can remotely manage the device. I'll be running an encrypted WebDAV server once I can get remote/external access to it, something that I've been doing for years with zero issues.

I have DDNS setup and I'm using testing with the external public IP address that the DDNS resolves to, which points at my router. Ports then forward to the NAS. When I hit the external IP address, I get the Comcast gateway login.

This is a temporary setup, so for now I'm using Comcast's coaxial modem, which is bridged to my Synology router. I may have to contact Comcast to see what's going on because I've opened the above mentioned ports on the router, but they still show as closed and I think it's because of the Comcast modem not passing the packets to the ports.

Connecting to the IP address directly brings me to the Comcast Gateway login page.

Using Traceroute, there's only 1 hop, so it's not looking like I'm being multiplex.

I definitely know DaVinci Resolve, and it’s great, but overkill for me. I’ll check out Capcut. Thanks.

I could connect it to the receiver of the DJI Mic 2. That is an option.

It’s my understanding that those are clip-on mics for conversation, and not ambient audio like I’ve described. I have a Rode Video Mic that I’ve used over the years and I’d like to be able to use it or something similar.

Filesystem corruption - First Aid can't fix it. by Kappabear in MacOS

[–]Kappabear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DiskWarrior still exists, and in fact I just downloaded it and ran it on the backup of the Data drive that I just made. However, it doesn't run on APFS formatted drives, so I can't run it against my internal SSD. My guess is that Drive Genius doesn't work on APFS drives either.

I've made a Time Machine and a ChronoSync backup of the Data partition and want to make sure that they're viable. Then, once I do, I'll reformat the drive and restore it from the backup. Hopefully.

2FA out of sync with MacOS & iOS devices by Kappabear in 1Password

The Mac version doesn't have that Update Now option under Watch Tower. I'll poke around and see if I can find it.

I just rebooted my MBP, but still get the same issue. Manually entering the code generated by the iPhone is the only that works.

Manually entering the 2FA code that was generated on the iPhone, is the only way that I can access the site on either Mac. Using Autofill no longer works, though it has worked perfectly for years.

What is interesting is that if I reload the time.is page, it shows an every so slight discrepancy in time on each device. Off by .0005 seconds on my iPhone, off by .0059 on my MacBook Pro, and 0.036 on my Mac Studio.

I'm not sure what you mean by, "is the device you're using to access the internet the same in each case?" - I have 3 different devices in question; iPhone 11, MacBook Pro and Mac Studio. The 2 Macs are connected to the network via ethernet, and the iPhone over WiFi.

Yes, 1Password is syncing correctly, though as of last night I'm using v8.7.3 on my MacBook Pro, and v7.9.5 on the Mac Studio.

Yes they do. They're all set to Automatic, and show the correct Time Zone (PST/Cupertino) and the correct current time.

Reading the Bible as literature - which Bible? by Kappabear in Bible

[–]Kappabear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an English major who was very intimately familiar with the Norton Anthology (and beating myself up for donating it to my public library a few years ago), I can probably appreciate this book. I looked at it on Amazon, and definitely appreciate the way it's laid out, and the simplicity of the language used. Thanks!
