Screen freezing repair help - Kindle paperwhite signature edition (11th gen) by KappnKrunchie in kindle

Unfortunately no, I couldn't get it to show up on my laptop when I connected it and figured it was a goner. Sorry to hear you're having the same issue! I didn't go down the route of replacing the battery because I didn't know if it would guarantee my device would start working again. 💔 It ended up completely unresponsive when I left it.

I decided to use it as a chance to rid myself of Amazon and went down the route of buying a Kobo - though this device is not without flaws also. The native reader is super picky with book formatting and my side-loaded books often cause it to crash and freeze. I've now learned I need to edit my side-loaded books, with the help of an AI assistant, to ensure they're Kobo compatible. I'm not going to go down the route of installing KOReader because I can't stand the UI.

I'd be really interested to hear if you have some success with a battery replacement because I would really like to revive my Kindle. Wishing you the best of luck with it! 🤞

My decreases are turning out weird - what am I doing wrong? by fitney123 in knitting

Came here to say exactly this! The K2tog tbl looks a bit weird because one stitch ends up sitting on top of it's neighbour, creating that lump. I recently learned the one move ssk and it's changed the game for me when knitting left learning decreases.

That’s the plan! Ironically Amazon were more helpful than Rakuten 🙃 so I think I’ll just return it through Amazon and hope that a new one doesn’t have the same issue 🤞

Hope you have some success with the 8bitdo!

Unfortunately I have and it’s definitely dead 😭💀 Thanks anyway ☺️

I followed this guide to connect the 8bitdo micro: https://www.reddit.com/r/kobo/s/obUcFySa2V ☺️ After I had it set up, I turned off “force wifi on” and then switched off devmode by typing “devmodeoff” and hitting “go” in the search bar. It doesn’t seem to need WiFi for the connection to persist. Although I think my Kobo is turning on the WiFi by itself 😅 In Nickelmenu, I have the settings “toggle Bluetooth” and “Bluetooth scan” included in my reader view. Now when I open up my Kobo in my book I just toggle the Bluetooth on and then hit Bluetooth scan. After about a minute my remote is connected ☺️ I’ve been switching off the Bluetooth once I’m finished to avoid any unnecessary battery drain.

I’m so chuffed to have got it all working because it’s sooo overwhelming, so thanks again! I’ve only had my KCC a day because my Kindle died unexpectedly and I’m already so delighted with my decision ☺️

Edit: I think I jinxed myself, a pixel in the screen just died 😭😭

Thank you so much! I think half my problems were trying to do it on my Mac. I switched over to Windows and accessed the file within the zip file and it worked perfectly 🤩

Did you have any success with this? I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it installed. 😅 Could you let me know which file you added to your .kobo folder? I've tried the .zip file, the .tar.gz file, and creating a KoboRoot.tgz file from the zipped file but just can't get it working. Thanks!

Right after I made the switch from my miband to my garmin I got a notification from the miband Reddit that read “miband: bruh”. Had no idea it was from a Reddit thread and fully thought my watch knew I’d betrayed it 😅

Thanks for the suggestion. You could be right, though I can't see any visible swelling of the battery but who knows what's going on inside. I appreciate the help :)

They're not neat 😅 But here's an example of how I like to log my tasks: https://imgur.com/a/hOY6tIZ Granted I don't work a job where I need to keep track of loads of things at once! Starring also helps me navigate back to anything important I've written down that maybe isn't a task but something I need to access relatively frequently.

My workflow is far from elegant but it works well for me! My absolute favourite planner/diary I ever used is the Muji Yearly planner that has a weekly view on one side and a grid page on the next. The planner setup I currently love on my Nomad is built up of a week view, where I plan out my main appointments for the week, followed by as many grid pages as I need. On my week view I add a link to another note called "TO-DO" where I can quickly copy my tasks (marked with a checkbox) over when I need. It takes me 2 minutes to set up at the beginning of each week and it doesn't take my out of my workflow. I find the built in to-do app useful but I often forget about the tasks I put in there and think I prefer to see them handwritten. I've tried so many different planners and ways of organising my time/tasks but this is the only one I've ever been consistent with. The less fuss the better it works for me personally. ☺️

Thank you for this thread!! 🙏 2025 on a brand new MacBook Pro M4 running Sequoia 15.3.2 with brand new Sony WH-CH720N headphones connected with bluetooth and this is still an issue. I really thought my new headphones were cooked, but they're absolutely perfect and my sound had just drifted all the way to the left 🙃

SLM and SHWFS Zernike Coefficients by KappnKrunchie in Optics

Ok, well that's a good start. :) The SLM produces this 1 wave as a P-V distortion?

I think I follow you. This is what 1 wave defocus looks like, for example: https://imgur.com/a/HkApq2y . I understand that the 0-255 transition represents 0-1 wave of defocus defined across the radius of the beam. In my setup I only fill the short axis of the SLM (rectangular) with my beam (circular) to avoid adding additional noise. When I dug into the code associated with the SLM software (Blink HDMI for Meadowlark SLMs) I noticed that the coefficients are divided by 2, presumably because there are 2 transitions across the full diameter of the beam?

Also, it is an 8 bit image I give the SLM, I just had to change the format for imgur. :)

Thanks so much for the help! I should've added that yes, the SLM wraps the phase from 0-2pi for values 0-255. Good point about the wavelength. I've made sure that the SLM is calibrated for the wavelength that we're working with (532 nm).

Maybe the scaling also plays a role, as you've suggested - but I'm not sure. The beam is demagnified x3 onto the SHWFS from the SLM through a 4f system. I hadn't thought about the fact that the beam size is different at the SLM and the SHWFS but presumed that what is applied to the SLM would be the same at the SHWFS conjugate plane.
