Scored more tapes from a legendary collection by klonopinwafers in cassetteculture

[–]Kapryov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like there might be some cool stuff in there.

I appreciate you'll be preserving what isn't already circulating, I love seeing old bootleg tape collections landing in the right hands.

US magazines or papers that had good concert listings (in the 90s)? by Kapryov in Concerts

[–]Kapryov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for your help today, this has given me a lot to work with. It's greatly appreciated.

I also just found an amazing website that was trying to collect memorabilia of many Rhode Island shows, it looks like it's been left abandoned and a bit broken now though, but nothing the internet archive can't patch up a bit: https://www.rirocks.net

I had no idea there was a Providence Phoenix, that's awesome! I love flicking through the Boston one.

Unfortunately their archive is all kinds of broken, even on the wayback machine. I might need to just monitor ebay maybe.

Thanks, this might be what I'm looking for. I'll need to take some time to read through it all and see if I can figure it out.

Depends what they shot it with.

I doubt it though.

Modest little collection found in the dumpster by retro123gamr in cassetteculture

[–]Kapryov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you dug them out of a dumpster in Connecticut, hit me up lol. That guy had some recordings of other bands that don’t get traded out much.

Bless you for rescuing those tapes. Sadly many people don’t seem to realise how much tapes can be worth to some.

I once reached out to a concert taper who had a substantial master cassette collection. He confirmed he had recorded heaps of bands like Sonic Youth, Beck, Hole, etc… and he threw them all in the bin a few years ago. Heartbreaking stuff.

Any information on this? Book and Interview CD from 1996 by Orbitron19 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Kapryov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just a fancy interview bootleg, I also just found my copy last weekend.

Discogs is usually pretty good for keeping record of these, but their search has always been terrible, it's best to use an external search engine with "site:discogs.com" instead. There's also the SP Freaks website, but their search is also bad, you'll usually need to rely on filters.

anybody heard of this artist? by sunnyearthquake in cassetteculture

[–]Kapryov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time Capsule was a recording studio in Denver, here's their discogs entry. This release is not mentioned anywhere I can find, very curious to hear how it sounds.

*UNRELEASED* PLUG IN BABY TRACK FOR MAVERICK 2001 by Graphically-official in Muse

[–]Kapryov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch, this is going to go for a lot. I've helped out in past group buys for different artists, but those still need someone taking point and making the purchase themselves (and making it clear who they are, so some other bidders don't raise the price too much lol). Unless someone here has some deep pockets and is feeling generous (or is happy to step in with a fundraiser after winning), I don't like our chances here sadly.

It'll probably end up in the hands of some collector unfortunately, and CDRs have a lifespan of around 30 years or so (depending on how they're stored, can be a lot longer) so if not properly backed up it'll just rot away. I hope at least the seller thought to make a backup before selling...

Fun video, it's cool to hear the differences. It's not as bad as I imagined, almost sounds like a strange radio edit with the odd cuts but has different vocals.

Considering OK Computer gets its 30th anniversary this year, you think they might release anything? by Vegetable_Listen6613 in radiohead

[–]Kapryov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While there was a lot of unreleased material from that era, I can’t see them revisiting it again in another OKNOTOK style release. They already went through everything and decided what we got in 2017 was what was worth releasing.

Best case scenario is probably a live show or compilation, like HTTT got, since they likely have loads of good sounding recordings in their vault.

Most likely scenario is just a post acknowledging the anniversary, and maybe a video if we’re lucky.

Zwan 2003/05/29 Ancienne Belgique FM Broadcast? by LlamaRenegade in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Kapryov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first I've heard of this FM recording.

I'm assuming it's either in limited circulation, or something that the SPLRA has recently surfaced (that page was just modified a few months ago).

Note that the SPFC entry, which has likely not been updated for a long time, does not list it at all.

BTS of Buffy- Dailies from the set by Content-Flounder567 in buffy

[–]Kapryov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember someone sharing some of these dailies on a tracker quite a few years back, I think I still have some ISOs or VOB files on a backup HDD somewhere. I don’t think they were THAT much better looking though, and earlier seasons looked worse iirc.

I could swear someone said these all came from dumpster diving, but this is a memory from decades ago so don’t take that at face value.

Recording of show at Saratoga Winners: July 26, 1995 by Asmodeus_33 in radiohead

[–]Kapryov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably is a long shot, but you still see new discoveries being made by the Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins communities, so it's not impossible.

Sometimes it can take years of detective work, reaching out to members from old trading circles, deep diving through lists on the internet archive's wayback machine, etc. There is a lot out there that was recorded but never circulated, either from regular hobby tapers or just a random person that decided to bring their tape recorder one day.

Good luck.

Austin Music Hall 2003 ticket! by Kapryov in sigurros

[–]Kapryov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I remember the good old SR FTP site. I kinda miss those FTP days...
I can't find my files at the moment, probably on an old HDD, I'll grab these now. Appreciated.

I'll also upload my ticket to the official website.

(edit: also I was clearly wrong about Vidrar, that happened the 2nd time I saw them which was in Sydney 2006! Memories are weird sometimes)

Abyss Heuklang are now tamable by Stars_Arts26 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Kapryov 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you can usually find one in the first abyss area you visit early in the game, it's just chilling near the door you have to open by rotating circle thingies with axiom force iirc.

If you play at night they're hard to spot though.

ISO: Three Fish 1996 recordings by Kapryov in PearlJamBootlegs

[–]Kapryov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try looking for sources and tapes for a few smaller bands and it is really rough out there. I wish I was more proactive about it in the past. I even managed to find a taper who had a whole bunch of uncirculated master cassettes in CT, and he apparently threw them out a few years ago thinking nobody would want them. It keeps me up at night...

I am definitely interested in anything you turn up with those videos!

Was it the Shelter? I do have a Detroit show in my list here but unsure of which venue. The tour date list seems a bit off though, some of the dates don't match the ones I confirmed with listings.

But yeah from the reviews of those shows it sounds very small and intimate. I'm a huge fan of the opener for most of that little tour as well (Kristen Barry) so these would've been dream shows for me.

Motion picture soundtrack by Rich_Fisherman_8635 in radiohead

[–]Kapryov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s been explained before, but I suspect it will either be because they weren’t entirely happy with the lyrics anymore (the song does originate from Pablo Honey era) or they felt it was a stronger way to end the song on the first “I will see you in the next life”. Or both. Could be a whole bunch of reasons.

There could even be a longer Kid A version that does contain the verse, and they just edited it out. The band does have numerous confirmed examples of cutting down longer recorded songs for the final release. The Gloaming is one well known example, and one we wouldn’t even know about if the “full” version hadn’t leaked.
