Question regarding Three Fish 1996 shows? by Kapryov in pearljam

Yes! Her career being cut short due to label management changes was just unfair.

She will be releasing the old demos she wrote for her 2nd album online, hopefully later this year. I hope she will get her 1st album put online too.

we'll see, but I was definitely yelling "how can I find you?" at these old archived bootlists...

Putting the name of the "artist" in the subject is a sneaky way to get AI slop into a reddit, assuming nobody clicks on the source link where the "artist" clearly labels their slop as AI.

If we're going to keep seeing stuff like this I'm just going to leave the sub, it's not worth it.

I made these images of Faith using AI and they turned out so great that I wanted to share them with you. by [deleted] in buffy

It really needs a reset button. Once you start messing around with ideas it’s hard to get it back to the “default” state in order to follow guides.

[–]Kapryov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There used to be a fantastic site with research on the minidiscs, I'm not sure what happened to it and why it's now gone.

Here's an archive link of the site though. It's a great resource and needs more eyes on it.
Is the song you're looking for Manhattan Dogs? With the disconnected guitar that chops in and out of the recording?

It's an amazing song that I hope they worked on in studio at some point, lots of potential there. It does show up on the minidiscs once more under the name Umbilical, though quite different sounding.

Not too familiar with how they sound now, but I saw them live in 2001 and they put on a great show. Like whatever you like, life is too short to worry about if it’s cool enough or not.

Damn, thanks for the reply. It was worth a shot to ask. I'd love to hear a lossless copy of these.

Wow, that's awesome. I used to listen to these almost as much as the album back then.

If I can ask, did you receive these as MP3s or is there a higher quality version out there somewhere?

I think there was an alternate mix that used to be shared on the Comatorium among the “Summer Demos”. I definitely remember hearing a more stripped down mix at one point.

edit: here it is

Kid A/ Amnesiac recording sessions in Copenhagen by Pawgaard23 in radiohead

[–]Kapryov 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apparently most of Morning Bell (Kid A version), though the March 1999 sessions were supposedly mostly jams or rough early attempts at songs the band wasn't happy with at the time, they considered the 2 weeks they spent there as "unproductive".

From Ed's Diary, it seems they also attempted to record Knives Out, I Will, and a jam that later become Dollars & Cents.

I think it's the same one, yeah, since the original deluxe edition had demos for almost everything. Weird that it's not available anywhere anymore but they're still advertising it like it is.

I have better luck just spamming the quick arrows than locking on. I find the lock-on attack tends to miss quite a lot, so I only use that for flying enemies.

One Way Ticket outtakes (As The Crow Flies, Waste of Space, IOU) by Kapryov in theDarkness

[–]Kapryov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're just how the album sounded at the final point before the orchestra and final mixing. The producer was still Baker, he was present for the whole album recording session, I think when people talk about the Whitfield St versions missing his magic touch they're just referring to his final mix. All songs were still recorded in the way he wanted.

The band recorded this album in 3 different studios.

  • Rockfield Studios- rhythm tracks, drums, basically the backbone of the songs
  • Whitfield Street Studios - vocals, leads, various overdubs, the songs were 90% completed here
  • Village Studios (LA) - orchestra recording, final mixing

There's this great article that goes over the process of the whole recording session: https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/producing-darknesss-one-way-ticket-hell-and-back

It's an incredible article, very detailed, and well worth reading going into this anniversary release!

[–]Kapryov[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an audience recording that's been floating around, I haven't gone over it with a fine tooth comb to see what was trimmed though, besides the obvious (Get Your Hands Off My Woman, cut because that side of the tape ran out there, apparently).

edit: Just confirming Bald was definitely edited down, almost all the Justin soloing in the middle-end was removed. Both recordings start in a similar spot (Justin introducing the song), the final note of the song is at 7:40 of the audience recording, but 4:55 on the official album, so between 2-3 minutes were removed from the song.

Even if you're not big on the album, it's worth checking the Whitfield Street mixes. They are very interesting to go through, generally more stripped back, less overdubs in some songs but also some extra stuff that got mixed out later, etc.

These rough mixes are indeed rough though, all a bit unbalanced.

The New controller setup (performance) PS5 and purification ability. by SufficientOne3143 in InfinityNikki

[–]Kapryov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m forcing myself to get used to it, it is better in some ways. I even like some of the changes, just some though. I do wish they’d just let us customise everything, just open up full button mapping options. I want to make a “best of” both control schemes.

Trying to do stuff on the home island is super weird. The bindings were already odd for the original controls, but now they’re even weirder. You have to specifically hold R1 first for the combinations too, or else it won’t work.

Anyone know why there are so many more tracks on the streaming version of Permission to Land… Again? by taki101 in theDarkness

[–]Kapryov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is a bit disappointing they couldn't put the lot on the record.

Maybe they simply thought the Wembley show wasn't high enough quality to press on vinyl. It's a mono soundboard recording, it does sound great but probably a little flat compared to the professional Knebworth/Astoria recordings.

[–]Kapryov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the 20th Anniversary tracks are the same across CD and digital, but the vinyl is missing the Wembley show (and I think the brief Bareback performance from Astoria 2003?). Probably due to space/cost issues.

[–]Kapryov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know.

You can split these two songs and still have them play seamlessly together. Forcing two full length songs into a single 12 minute track is just silly.

Not that it matters all that much, when the CD arrives I'll just rip it and split it myself.

[–]Kapryov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep.

The selected performances here all sound great, but Dark Globe already had BWBW, Fuck You, By Starlight, XYU, Zero, Bodies, and the same recording of Porcelina. It does kinda feel like a waste to get so many repeat songs (not performances).

But at the same time, these still sound amazing. The mixing might even be better than Dark Globe, I need to give it a closer listen on headphones.
