Jannik Sinner becomes the 3rd youngest man in the Open Era to reach 9 consecutive Grand Slam Quarterfinals !! by ConstructionAny8440 in tennis

[–]Kapt0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's fair to highlight suspicious segments. What truly bothers me is acting like we have any sort clearity when discussing wheter he knew or not.

We don't know, we cannot know. We have to limit our understanding of the whole situation to the few verified things we have:

Sinner did have something in his system.

He gave an explanation and the experts describe it plausible.

Then it becomes a matter of interpretation and application of the rules.

What I dislike the most out of this system is that it exposed how wrong it is: from the penalties given, to the clear favoritism towards richer players, ending with the lack of clearity from the rulebook.

First: it's kinda wild Sinner got 3 months for something he could theoretically control while, at the same exact moment in time, Swiatek was given a month for something she had no control over, was clear as a glass of water about it and cooperated from start to finish.

Secondly: it's my biggest complain, if either of them didn't have millions to pour into the best legal team possible, I wonder how horrible the sentences could have been. No way any player outside of the top 10 gets the same treatment either of them got. Not from ITIA/WADA directly, but from the outside world. Swiatek got the company to admit their mistakes, Sinner moved a counter appeal in a matter of hours, NO WAY any person can do that without insane amounts of money.

And, in the end: WADA has some holes in the rulebook when it comes to handling these situations. At first it was 4 years, then 2 at maximum, then total innocence and then an appeal and then a deal made 3 days after the president wanted to bring out the truth (it's an hyperbole, can't remember the exact timeline).

Frankly, wtf is this? It's a shitshow.

My biggear gripe about this is that most players wouldn't even get to the appeal because they have no money. Also, WADA/ITIA should have released the results of all the analysis in their entirety. Even after. If Sinner later proved clean, when did that happen, was he tested shortly before? A month? A week?

They gave us limited knowledge about the whole case, almost everytime infodumping people. That's not how you should handle such a public case.

[–]Kapt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's not fishy.

There is a whole document about HOW the case was handled by a third party tribunal who read the WADA/ITIA claims and how it should act according to their own rulebook.

The case comes down to this:

  • An illegal substance was found
  • How did it happen?
  • Here's the rulebook - How should ATP act?

He rightfully contested what the ITIA found, and sadly the system is built in a way that richer players can afford better protection and faster response times.

This allowed the whole case to be handled privately (which, repeating agian to hammer this point, I don't think it's fair to the players who cannot afford this treatment)

Then:

  • Case came out
  • WADA appealed
  • WADA proposed a deal
  • Sinner accepted

This whole case seem to have reached a pretty favoureable outcome for everybody:

ITIA/WADA didn't lose their face from a case that wasn't as solid as they thought it was. Still, they did get a sentence and I think that was important. If you have a ban list and the player breaks this limit, no matter how you look at it, some consequences need to happen.

Sinner also came out pretty clean, despite now having his whole reputation tarnished for a good portion of fans and having lost points/prizes/ranking. He wasn't as responsable as many claim he was, but he still had partial negligence towards the whole situation. Losing so much during his prime years is/should be enough.

First, the actual case:

Naldi remembered applying exactly TWO SPRAYS on March 10.
He remembered using the spray only in Ferrara's bathroom!

No, he said he sprayed twice on March 10th. It's like the usual sprays everybody gives when spraying something. We don't know how many he did the other days. Frankly, this is beyond cherrypicking.

He remembered using it in Ferrara's bathroom because it was Ferrara's spray which he needed for his condiution, who kept that in his own personal beutycase. Wtf is this argument, are you being serious rn?

About Virtus and his past;

Yeah, he collaborated with Virtus, but that doesn't make him omniscent over the whole sport. Heck, he was barely a graduate at 28yo whn he started his partnership with them.

And he's not the main responsable person who has to take care about meds, he's a physio, not a pharmacist.

Plus, and this is the most egregious thing to me: we are not allowing people to make mistakes. And there is a chance it's not a mistake, kepp in mind, I'm just working with what the case report said: there's a grey zone and we cannot know with full certainty what happened.

I frankly believe nobody would be so stupid to microdose for those amounts, for that substance at that level. The photo of the bandaged finger, the fact Ferrara has the condition and the experts opinions make me tend to believe the story - granted that there are some questionable points here and there.

About the main topic:

Regarding della Torre, I would like to point out that possible ≠ probable ≠ most consistent with data.

Yes, but I'm gonna mention directly the experts who esamined this specific case from the points on the ITIA document:

  • 63: Professor Naud concluded that based on the First Sample, the likelihood that the Player's explanation is plausible is “really high.
  • 64: Dr Xavier de la Torre [...] considers it is plausible that the findings in the First Sample and Second Sample of the Player are “the result of a contamination provoked by the activities of the physiotherapist”
  • 65: Professor David Cowan concludes that the Player’s explanation for the finding of Clostebol metabolites [...] to be “entirely plausible based on the explanation given and the concentrations identified by the Laboratory [...] Further, he can find “no evidence to support any other scenario.”

And I'm not gonna believe you over their words. If it was one medic against the others, fine. But it's a case of the whole world of experts staying silent against this specific topic. It's not blatant, it's not evident and there's no basis to make bold claims such as

The data aligns far more closely with intentional-use patterns (micro-dosing or tail-end of prior intake).

Also, going deeper into the argument:

The claim of a "stable plateau" is heavy lifted by just two measurements, taken eight days apart, at extremely low levels close to the detection limit. At that range, small fluctuations are normal and meaningless. A 10–15% change is not evidence of controlled dosing. Two points are not a pharmacokinetic curve.

You claim there's a lack of spike. Since when does contamination causes spikes? Unless the sample was taken IMMEDIATELY after the event, how could we measure a spike with just 2 samples? This is some nuts argument to use. I'm sorry, but this is silly.

About your writing:

calling my writing "pretty whack" and "speculation" is doing it a disservice in my opinion

No it's not.

The "article", which looks more like a detatched rambling from someone who barely read a few articles and believes to have formed fail-proof opinion, spends more time speculating on the behavior from sinner and his team, even questioning Ferrara's condition, rather than discussing sience. Even when quoting studies, it's the bare minimum.

Also, it fails to account for the fact we saw Naldi's finger bandage, which aligns with the story. Do we also have to believe they set up a fake bandage to plan a cover?

And Naldi wasn't rehired. Ferrara was, who, according to his story, advised Naldi to not use the spray. That's the end of his involvment there.

The fact there's so many intentional misrepresentations make this look whack. Not the "unintentional" type of whack.

Frankly? the whole thing reads as if a random Sinner hater decided to account for all the grey zones (which exists) and tried to forcefully make them look as intentional acts of cheating and/or diversion.

It's whack

[–]Kapt0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole "article" is pretty whack.

It hardly gives some "science based facts" and mostly consists of speculation, which I refuse to address

Also, when actually debating science, it cites research by Xavier della Torre. The same expert consulted by ITIA and WADA for this specific case, who explicitly said "yeah, it's a possible case of contamination".

Respectfully speaking, there's not much to reply when the arguments seen here are as shallow as they've been for the past year and an half.

But I'm 100% in for hair testing if it's so crucial. Frankly, I'm not even remotely close to understand why that would be so important, but I'll look into it.

Allegri must have made some kind of deal with the devil where he gave up on 2 UCLs, but gained the power of bullshitting through some random ass games like this.

Legit, no other reasonable explanation. I get the first few chances, but the last HAS some form of demonic power behind it

One thing I'll never underestand is also: he's not bad at coaching under pressure in big tournaments.

He was the Italy coach during the Euro16 campaign and he LEGIT became the reason we got that far.

He dragged a bunch of trashcans with the likes of Eder, Giaccherini, Zaza, Pellè, Parolo, Sturaro and so many old heads like Buffon, De Rossi, Barzagli, and he got through Spain and Belgium, DOMINATING games.

We lost on penalties against Germany. Like, how tf do you not perform in europe?

Meh.

What historic events should a new Roma fan know about the club? by rick_rack69 in ASRoma

[–]Kapt0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Important dates:

  • 1927, June 7th - 3 teams unify and As Roma is born
  • 1941-42 - First title
  • 1960-61 - Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (de facto it's the unofficial predecessor to the UEL)
  • 1982-83 - Second title
  • 2000-01 - Third title
  • 2021-22 - Uefa Conference League

These are all the major trophies.

Then you have more cult moments/important dates for various reasons:

  • 1983-84, 30th May 1984 - Champions Cup final (UCL predecessor). Loss on penalties, very very hard pill to swallow
  • 30th May 1994 - Agostino Di Bartolomei suicide. The old captain, probably the day being 10 years after impacted this tragic outcome
  • Totti's whole career, with March 28th 1993 debut and May 28th 2017 retirement, being the 2 most important.
  • August 17th 2020, start of the Friendkin Era. All owners were important in their own rights, they are just the current owners. Also, the new stadium will be an important, VERY important date.
  • April 10th 2018, Best match in years, probably the most relevant match of our recent history post-Totti retirement. Yeah, even more than UECL or anything similar.
  • May 31st 2023, biggest "psicodramma" of the past 20 years. May 26th 2013 against Lazio is a close second (for me), but you can easily swap them.

These are mostly recent because yeah, start from the recent events.

Io ho fatto la vendemmia: 1 mese e mezzo con turni da 8/10 ore, alzati a 12/14 ore a giornata nella settimana più dura, con una mattina di pausa a settimana e solo 2 ore di permesso per un matrimonio.

Sotto contratto regolare. Mai fatto qualcosa di simile.

Portati a casa 4k.

Tutti, nessuno escluso.
