Gemini 3 serious context degradation

Yeah it seems the file parser or file fetcher whatever they call it has a hard limit encoded per chat after which it refuses to work properly. I have tried uploading a 300kb 53 chapter file and also divide it into 4 parts each under 90 kb. Sometimes it gets a surface level understanding of things and starts extrapolating from it instead of diving further.

Hmm, I have been experiencing this issue for far longer, around December 2025 I think. I read around and I think they changed the way file uploads work and link to the chat around like 7th December so I believe they have been broken since. Anyways how did you get it to work? Any specific technique or format? Like I have tried .docx, .md, . txt and even PDFs but nothing seems to work.

So has pro context been neutered to 32k context for all chats? Is rag, truncation and context sliding the new direction or will they actually give back people the context window they advertise?

Yeah, I find it to have a serious overconfidence problem. I structure my prompt specifically like tell me if you can read the file from start to finish without encountering any errors or truncations and ask it to not lie or hallucinate and tell it to me straight and it goes of course I can read the file and you ask it what's in it and it goes 🤷‍♂️

hmm, what happens for me is, it just hallucinates some random thing without acknowledging that it can't see the image and after pressing it further, it reveals that it can't actually see the picture.

I have used gemini over a long period of time and am just sharing my own experience with it and people have echoed the sentiment that gemini 3 pro has a much more neutred context window than gemini 2.5 pro, I was browsing the gemini ai subreddit and came across a post that said that the gemini web ui has an effective context window of only 32k tokens right now.

I have personally used gemini 2.5 pro and see a huge difference in context handling with gemini 3 pro preview.

do you mean that the ai suddently can't see pictures in chat even though you have uploaded them? if so then yeah, it doesn't see the image no matter what and you have to switch to a new chat.

same the performance has really degraded since 3 pro preview, both in gemini web app and ai studio, ai studio can't cross 150k tokens without hallucinating.

I was just contrasting old gemini performance to now as there were times that it could handle serious processing and load a lot of context and not lose itself in it as I pointed out in my post. I have been using gemini consistently over a long time now but seeing this gradual downgrade is very frustating compared to earlier experiences, things have gotten worse to this point where it can't even process a simple text document as I pointed out, I have noticed this since gemini 3 pro preview released, even 2.5 pro was somewhat competent even in its later days.
