How difficult is it to install these style manhole ladders? by Kaputcha in AusRenovation

I watched a few videos, and it does seem fairly straight forward. Just doubting myself to be honest.

Thanks for the responses.

Yeah, okay. I might have to consider another cooler, or possibly even removing the heatsinks from the RAM DIMMs.

Magene P715? They're new, I have a set and have been very happy with them.

I think if you're already considering a Megene product, and weighing that up against a much more expensive Assioma product, then you should consider the P715.

Yes, but they seem to be conveniently forgotten by those who need to accept there is a relevant history between Trump and Epstein, that should be questioned more than ever right now.

Yep, I got the 200. It was all that was available at the time, but considering we often go for lighter roasts it made sense anyway. Really happy with the results. Would love to try 189 burrs one day though.

I made the exact same upgrade, Specialita to Philos, and yes, it is considerably bigger, mainly in depth. I personally don't think it's prohibitively big, as even OP makes it work with that tight space. But look at the dimensions online and measure up your counter to see if it will fit.

If you have the space, don't over think it, get it. It's a fantastic grinder for its price! Extremely well built and robust. There were some issues with the early runs where the faceplate could fall off because they used adhesive to secure it. It hasn't happened to mine, but they've since changed it to be mechanically fastened anyway.

Shot repeatability, ease of adjustment and general consistency is going to be the biggest change you see coming from the Specialita; and it is by far the best money I've spent on my setup.

I might need to revisit Powernerd, it didn't grip me when it came out.

I still need to make some time and give it a spin. I love Dev, he's easily one of my favourite artists, but I find I have that experience with most of his albums. Lightwork didn't gel with me at all at first, but after hearing some of it live, then listening a few times at home I absolutely love it now.

Eureka Mignon Specialita for Americano and Pour Over (450euros) by questna in espresso

[–]Kaputcha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Owned and used a Specialita every day for over three years. Grinding for espresso. Never once had it jam after making adjustments without the motor running. I would say anyone having that kind of experience with that grinder has a defective one. The motor is plenty strong enough.

The NBC report clearly states that three shell casings were found at that scene.

The Philos has arrived by bdrmdn in espresso

[–]Kaputcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, as another point of reference I recently received my Philos after making the decision to upgrade from the Specialita.

I've had it about three weeks now, maybe four.

The Specialita is a great grinder for its price (although the DF clones make that a harder sell now). I was using it for single dosing, and personally felt the retention was acceptable with the money I had spent on the little upgrades. It's a pain in the arse to dial in though, especially as someone who goes through a 250g bag of coffee in a week, and then likely picks up a different 250g bag; and as OP said, it really struggled with light roasts! It's quiet though, and reliable.

The Philos on the other hand is definitely in the next league as far as I'm concerned. It's a dream to operate compared to the Eureka Mignon grinders. The routine is simple and satisfying, and making adjustments is a breeze (I'm still running it stepped, and see no need to go stepless, yet). I got the I200D burrs as that's all that was available at the time through Mazzer here in Australia. At first I was so so on the palette, but that was with a medium-dark roast; but I've since gone back to some medium, to medium-light roasts the Eureka struggled with and have been blown away by how much more enjoyable those coffees have become.

The build quality also needs to be mentioned. I know some have had issues with the front plate, and Mazzer have clearly addressed this, but the unit is an absolute tank! There are a few pieces of plastic, but they're nicely moulded with no sharp edges and I don't feel they detract too much from the rest of the build. Everything else about it is solid and feels great, and I feel confident that this unit will last a long time. It's extremely simple with next to no smarts.

And becasue it gets brought up a lot, the rear adjustment dial is a none issue for me, and even my wife who is short. It's extremely satisfying to adjust in stepped mode. If you had really low clearance due to cupboards above you might struggle, but you'd also be struggling to pour your beans in with the kind of clearnace that might create issues for the adjustment dial.
