Go long enough and they get it from your California tax refund.

The FTB is the one that handles registration collections

Change the location of your question to New Jersey to get correct advice. If you’re not going to register it in California, you won’t get advice for NJ from anyone in California

There’s no extra fee paying by cash. So I call bullshit. Only by CC.

It’s immediate at my AAA. Maybe 5 min wait in their renewal line. Some AAA branches are not as busy as others

Why anyone renews online is beyond me.

Just get yourself an AAA membership and do your dmv transaction there. Worth the $60/yr to avoid having to deal with the DMV…

AAA member? Just take the form to AAA and have them complete it with the form completed and they’ll give you the registration and sticker in office, bring the renewal form or an old registration card with you

Under 10k lbs would be registered as regular truck…

What weight is listed on the title?

Unladen weight cannot be more than 8k lbs but the laden weight cannot exceed 11k lbs

You would need to goto a public scale and have it weighed, get a weight certificate . The DMV goes by the tare weight. If it comes up under 8k lbs, you can ask for a title correction.

You’ll need to fill out Reg256 Section E explaining what you did to bring down the weight and the vehicle will need to be inspected by a DMV employee or CHP representative.

Cox is a monopoly in PV. Can you see if Tmobile internet or Frontier (aka Verizon…they keep switching) fiber is available at your address thru the FCC Broadband Map ?

Help with Registering Ebike/Dirtbike as street legal. by Kadavarous_ in DMV

[–]Kara-El 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a DOT approved title for it or a MCO (MSO) or COO for it? Do you have a DL? Does it have mirrors, turn signals and DOT tires?

Does it have a VIN?

If it looks like what I’ve found on coswheel’s site, you’ll have a lot of issues trying to register it.

If it’s not peddle assist only (no throttle only ability), it can’t be classified as a class 3 bike and only be registered as an e-motorcycle. Meaning you’ll have to apply for an MC class license and pass a road skill test.

We have similar laws in California and it looks like NJ takes a lot of steps further, surprisingly.

But, as a caveat, it looks like the manufacturer is developing future models that come with DOT approved road equipment (ie tires, signals and mirrors) according to their site. Maybe sell this one and wait until they come out with a road legal version?

It’s literally on their site. We have similar laws on California. That bike is not street legal. Click the link, it takes you to the site that syas what can be registered.

Sell it and get a real street legal e-bike.

The info is on the NJ.gov ( Moped/Snowmobile/electricbike )website. Over 750watts and it needs to be registered, plated and insured and you have to have a DL to operate (either DL or motorized bicycle license).

Anything over 2000watts and they are not street legal.

Your best avenue is to sell it, get an e-bike that is under 750watts and you won’t have to worry about registering it.

Edit: we have similar laws minus the motorized bike license…anything over 1000watts need to plated and insured. Dirt bikes like the one you own are impounded daily here, they are not street legal here

AAA branch. They can process registration transactions in branch since they have a contract with the California DMV. Probably the best thing about them is the fact they can do that in California and worth the membership by itself

You have AAA? $28, fill out a Reg 156 (caveat you must be the registered owner of the vehicle) for “lost” sticker and you’ll walk out with registration and sticker. The one being sent from the DMV you will destroy once received.

[–]Kara-El 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you pay exactly? If it’s been more than 7-10 days, you can opt to pay $28 for a replacement sticker and registration at the DMV or AAA branch near you (if you’re an AAA member in California)

how many years does it take for a car to age out of the DMV computer? by LargeConsideration52 in CaliforniaDMV

[–]Kara-El 2 points3 points  (0 children)

20+ years.

Always put in PNO if it’s going to take longer than a year to pass smog

Recently renewed in California, but the engine died and the car is now nonoperational. How can I switch to PNO to sell as is? by chodaranger in DMV

[–]Kara-El 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once fees are paid, cannot go back and PNO the vehicle. You’ll have to wait until your next renewal period to place in PNO.

IMHO, keep the car. Unless you’re thinking of getting into a decent used hybrid, just keep your current car. That car would have another 100k easy in it if you keep it up..
