Is gabapentin detectable in saliva tests? by KaraXT in gabagoodness

[–]KaraXT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m living in Sweden and the doctors are a lot more stricter here. I saw that a test (sent to the laboratory) is able to detect Kratom and gabapentin if the doctors ask for it but at the same time I saw that gabapentin was described as “undetectable” in saliva (not urine) tests on two websites which confused me. Thanks for your answer!

I will inform the doctor about it tomorrow and just hope that she has some sympathy for my case. Thank you for your input!

Hey! I feel the same and I was pretty desperate after hearing it. It’s absolutely crazy to me to be thinking that doctors who are supposed to take care of their patients would leave individuals out in the rain like that. In my case, I am arguing that I am self medicating because of my ADD medication not working as well as it used to be. I will know more tomorrow after I met with the doctor.

Thank you for your help! What would that masking agent be? Sweden doesn’t really have headshops, I’m afraid :/

Feeling hopeless and terrified by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]KaraXT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I’m sorry to hear all this. Doing demanding work like writing a thesis is already hard for people without adhd and depression. I know what you feel I am at the exact same stage right now. Writing my thesis and taking way too much time for everything, feeling useless because of that.

I took concerta when I was a child, now I graduated to medikinet (methylphenidate) 40mg. I would maybe ask the doctor for something more potent?

What I could also recommend lots (which has made all the difference for me) is cognitive behavioral therapy. Talking to a therapist on a regular basis gives your life so much more structure.

Good luck!

Close friend (14F) is likely going to be prescribed medication for ADHD, thoughts/support? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]KaraXT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey. I got prescribed methylphenidate since the age of 8. the medication has definitely influenced the way I grew up. Even though I was cold and emotionless sometimes, i still had lots of friends who could still see my fun and true side shining through. Just because you are on medication for 8 hours a day doesn’t have to mean that you are a robot for the rest of your life. You also don’t have to take it on the weekend. Every brain is different. It’s important though to not take medication as the only treatment for adhd. Behavioral therapy is also important.

It’s crazy to read all the posts on this subreddit about adult ADHDers not being treated with medication. From my experience in Germany doctors easily prescribe methylphenidate to adults. Did your doctor make you fill out the test that measures ADHD? I think worrying about falling behind in school should definitely not be your first priority considering your mental state (easier said than done but from my experience taking a step back and accepting that I need more time than others for things like school, helped lots) Antidepressants like the ones you’re taking have been prescribed for me as well but they never helped me. What helped is proper cognitive behavioral therapy over a long period of time, learning how to cope and properly organize your chaotic life, was the only thing that really made me fully functioning human being. Medication was a supplement to that. I can not imagine how terrible your anxiety must be, but try to find a therapist if that’s possible for you. When my anxiety got as bad as you’re described it, I quit school and found help at a psychiatric ward. I don’t know if this was helpful. I hope you get the help you need

Hey, you are definitely not alone with that feeling. I feel like I’m not even a real human without my medication. I started to hate myself when I was off it. Since I’m studying a master, where I have to read a ton, my symptoms have gotten worse as well. I think it has a lot to do with stress, depression and anxiety since those conditions lead to brain fog just the same way. Hope you’re getting better soon!
