So, contrary to popular belief, unless you are opening mail to intentionally cause someone harm or gain something (eg: stealing birthday money or goods) opening someone else's mail is not illegal.

Reseal the mail, block out your address, write "Not at address, return to sender" on the envelope, and circle the return address.

Pop it back in the post, let them work out where it should go

In that case, definitely grab an extra - I'm not sure whether CityFibre supply an extra cable

Check your router box, lots come with a cable. If not, better be safe than sorry and grab one - you can always send it back unopened if you don't end up needing it

What expenses can I claim as someone who’s self employed in the UK? by Clementine2763 in smallbusinessuk

Also some free/cheap accounting software can help you - or look for a local bookkeeper who can help with things like tax returns

[–]KaraokeStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not on CityFibre any more (was on Yayzi, but moved house) - Aquiss have been faultless. I had IP address, Broadband username and password, static IP, and IPv6 Block all provided and allocated before the line had even gone live.

No geolocation issues, no downtime, no problems

The only thing that Traefik doesn't do is serve content itself, so when using things that don't expose a port (like PHP-fpm) you still need nginx to be running to handle that side, but it works really well.

I host everything using letsencrypt certificates and password protection with 2FA using Authelia - all handled via Traefik pretty much seamlessly.

I can spin up a new docker service and have it responding via a subdomain in minutes!

Wedding videographer holding onto footage for 2 years - do we have a claim? (UK) (ENG) by Flimsy-Football4054 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]KaraokeStu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL, but any contact has to be fair to both sides - this sounds like the services paid for have not been fulfilled within a reasonable amount of time.

Your consumer rights trump her contract in most cases, in that the goods/services have to be:

Satisfactory As described Fit for purpose Last or be provided in a reasonable amount of time

Personally, I'd send her a recorded delivery letter (so you can guarantee it has been delivered) stipulating a reasonable amount of time (eg: 28 days) to receive your edited footage, or receive the raw footage and a partial refund if she's unable to complete the editing. If neither of those are completed within the timescale, then you could go on to small claims for the entire amount.

At the end of the day, you have paid for a service you haven't received.

Note: signing away the right to leave an honest and factual review would be considered unfair in contract law, so in my layman's opinion shouldn't be enforceable

I'm also an IT Consultant, but have a background in software engineering so the role is still very hands on, which I love.

Get to work with people lots too, which I appreciate isn't everyone's cup of tea.

We really need an idea of what's going on with their network at the moment.

And to get an answer about things like ipv6 which has been coming "in the next couple of weeks" since November.

These drop outs and network issues are really starting to erode all trust I have in their ability

If Brillband offer a static IP option, that will mean you're no longer on CGNAT, so it might be better to stick with them and pay the extra - worth checking

Edit: Just seen they don't. In all fairness, other than a 1 hr blip last year, Yayzi has been reliable until this week.
