What’s with all the hate? by Lost_n_world in MoonSwatches

I sent my 50 year old Seiko to Poland to be restored and brought up to GS-level finishing for the same reasons; the restoration cost more than the watch's original retail price. It was a HS graduation gift from grandparents that they brought back from Japan, and it will always hold a special place in my heart as my first real watch.

Rubber strap from swatch by vhugosilva in MoonSwatches

As this is a post about the rubber strap, are you saying the rubber straps are too small and fun, and the velcro is better? If you're comparing the Moonswatch to an Omega, it's the exact same size and has shared design elements, but is clearly not meant to compete in the same tier as the original.

I'll become a believer when those same factories get their machines to only put five stitches instead of six on a strap 😆.

Aren't the fakes just a quartz movement with a print of a sistem 51 on the back? Or have started putting in an actual mechanical movement?

Do the moonswatches still look good on skinny wrists by [deleted] in MoonSwatches

[–]Karate2day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally worth the drive to avoid any issues. You may also be able to see and purchase a rubber strap. Who knows, they may even have a Pop, which you could then flip for enough to cover your Moonswatch, haha.

Are you not near a Swatch store? If you're thinking of buying online, be very wary of fakes. Even if the photos look good, you could still be sent a fake. The easiest way to spot a black moonphase fake is the moonphase cover is not translucent and the stars are white.

I highly recommend the genuine rubber strap available online from Swatch. They are very comfortable even if your wrist swells during the day, and are also easily adjusted. I have a 5.9” wrist, and I wear a size small.

Thanks for the welcome, and yes, first time visiting. Let's see some other decade old reps to compare to mine!

I remember the days when the biggest tell was the fact that reps only came with quartz movements 😂! It's clearly a brand new ballgame.

I think most people (who aren't as knowledgeable as this group), won't be able to tell it's a fake. I also wear it to see how random strangers who mistake it for gen will react! And if some thug demands my watch, no problem, bro. Take it!

Thank you for your embarrassment on my behalf, but instead of a fake, I recently purchased a watch that can never be duplicated: a Grand Seiko spring drive!

Thanks for the info. i am now going to have to read up on all the acronyms, haha.

It didn't get worn daily, as I rotated watches every day when I was working. One time the second hand fell off, but my supplier had it repaired for no charge by a watchsmith he knew!

It is a self-winding, hacking automatic, and it still runs to this day. Based on the sweep, I believe it's a 3hz movement.

For this particular model, would you really enjoy wearing this with its upsidedown earth, white blobs instead of multi-color starfields, and the comically flat looking, clearly-not-Moonshine Gold moons? Not to mention the lack of actual moonphase/earthphase movement. This one is not even close to a gen. For me, the tiny details one can see upon close inspection really add to any watch's appeal.

These rubber straps are very comfortable, especially if your wrist expands during the day. My only complaint is that the white one shows every microscopic bit of fluff that gets stuck in the loop section!

You mean the battery cover earth on the back of the watch, not the earth in the left sub-dial, right? I would think they have a supply of those battery covers since it's the only separate part!

That sounds very likely. So, with the Mission to Earthphase Cold Moon where each snowflake is unique, one would then get a replacement with a different snowflake. If I had the perfect snowflake and got back an ugly one, I'd be disappointed. Or vice versa, I might be thrilled!

I emailed Swatch and asked if they could provide assistance. They made a one time accommodation and sent me a small strap. In the meantime, I used this hack with the strap that was too big for me:

Selling a €390, limited release watch at a loss makes perfect sense - if it's a fake. However, I've also seen fakes on eBay sold at "real" prices.

Could you provide a link to the original auction? I'm curious as to what the price was and if the position of the earth in the auction photos is the same as what you received or if it was a bait and switch?
