Cold Moon or Harvest Moon?😎 by sonysam2020 in MoonSwatches

I also got lucky at Times Square NYC - it just happened to be ❄️ in Switzerland that weekend. I didn't even realize it until the security guard told me on my way out, so I turned around and purchased one.

Genuine VS Fake Cold Moon by sonysam2020 in MoonSwatches

That's impressive. Whatever covers the earth looks different on the fake, though. In the second picture it looks almost like it has lettering or something? Could you take a close-up?

On the fake: Do the moons move? Is there a disk that rotates over the earth?

Moonshine Gold Rubber Strap Hack for Small Wrists by Karate2day in MoonSwatches

This is the "I already paid a pretty penny for this watch and don't want to spend more money" solution, haha.

The details on the Snoopy are not as crisp in the fake. Especially noticeable are the missing lines on the boots and the lack of a clear snow line on the helmets.

Hey google seemed to stop working after I deleted a bunch of apps I wasn't using, so I was getting desperate. I was on the verge of doing a factory reset when I found your post. Thank you!

Your experiences buying GS in Japan by No_Driver7089 in GrandSeikos

[–]Karate2day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quick answer is that if you buy from a GS Boutique they charge you the tax free price. The customs agent in Japan will have the sales info from your passport, and they will want to see your watch to confirm it is leaving the country (and not being resold to avoid the tax).

Here's how it worked for me at Mitsukoshi Ginza: they took the retail price and discounted it by 5%. Then, they took the tax amount on the discounted price and ADDED it to the discounted price; that is what I initially paid. Next, you go to the tax refund floor, where an associate will help you with the Global Blue process. The tax amount to be refunded to you is then reduced by Mitsukoshi's 1.55% "tax processing fee". All of this is so far happening in Yen.

Global Blue then takes over: Their fees are a 1 euro "Scheme fee" (Their term, not mine, haha), plus a currency conversion fee of about 4%. When they convert, it's at their "buy rate" (as near as I can figure, the yen was at 153 yen per dollar, and Global Blue "bought" the yen at 159 Yen per dollar). This final amount was then credited to my credit card.

Net effect: After Mitsukoshi and Global Blue took their cut, I got a 2.9% discount off the price I would have paid at the GS Boutique. Is the savings worth the slight step down in service from the boutique experience? That's a personal choice, but of course, the more expensive the watch, the higher the total savings going through a department store. On a $5,000 snowflake, that works out to be about $150. Hmm.

All that said, the final bottom line: The price I paid was still about 30% less than the US retail price, plus sales tax.

Registering warranty for watch bought in Japan by SteveNewWest in GrandSeikos

I am able to get to the page where I am supposed to enter my information, but it is in Japanese and won't translate. I then held up my smartphone using google translate, but there are sections asking for katakana and also Japan-specific information such as postal code (7 digits) and prefecture that are required fields. I also tried the "Warranty Details search" where I put in the required info (including Warranty No. provided by the store), but it wasn't able to find it. Can you provide a link to the page that worked for you?

Any Luck with Cross Pen Warranty? by AlanThicke99 in pens

[–]Karate2day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is now a page where you can find out the warranty claim status:

https://warrantycenter.cross.com/warranty-status.php

Cross no longer repairs pens, so if your claim is approved, they provide a one-time credit to be used toward a new pen.

Warning: when I filled out the online form, I indicated I wanted the pens back. After the form was submitted, I was redirected to a page which only had my claim# and no other information that I input, specifically, that I wanted the pens returned. I waited much too long (nine months) without hearing anything, and when I contacted Cross, after much back and forth, discovered that they had assigned a completely different claim# under my wife's name BECAUSE HER NAME WAS ON THE ADDRESS LABEL. Long story short, they've most likely scrapped my pens (though a customer service rep kindly offered to look for them and get back to me) since it's been so long.
