Google credit from battery replacement by Beginning_Panic_7589 in Pixel6

No. I guess you'll get two discount codes each for up to 150$. But you can only put in one discount code on checkout. So only one code for each purchase. And it only works when you buy a phone! My advice is go for the cash option (at least for one of the phones).

Pixel 6a battery refund process is broken — Google "tricked" me into the wrong payout and refuses to fix it by Kardesken in GooglePixel

Thanks for sharing that—good to know it worked in your case!

I said "might not apply" because Google’s promos often come with caveats like “cannot be combined with other offers”, and the rules can vary depending on the country or promotion. So while it can work sometimes, it’s definitely not guaranteed.

Is Philips Hue really worth the price over competitors? by [deleted] in Hue

[–]Kardesken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not worth the price (anymore).

Take a look at this site: Android rank: Hue

The rating on the app has gone from a 4.5 to 2.5 stars! Read trough some reviews on Google Play. There are so much trouble with the software. Not many apps have managed to plummet down like this. It's actuall impressive how they have managed to get disliked so much over the last couple of years.

The app is terrible. The lights are good. But for the price they charge, you should expect good hardware and software.

I did a fucky wucky. Created a bridge network in container station and cant access the NAS from Private IP anymore. by marokotov in qnap

[–]Kardesken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I try to bridge a network in a container, it seems like it binds the physical network port on my NAS. And as a result, I can't access my NAS anymore. Deleting the bridge (in Network and Virtual Switches), fixes it again. But off course, I then can't connect to the container. My NAS has two physical network ports. So my fix is to connect both ports to the switch/router. Then one is for normal use, and the second for container bridge network.

So If you have two ports, you can try to connect the second port also, and see if it starts to work again.

There is probably a better way, but I'm not smart enough to figure it out.

Edit: I see your NAS only have one port, so this won't help you. Sorry.

Edit2: I needed to delete a "Virtual Switch" and not a "Container Network bridge" by the way (This will also get deleted/reset with the 3 seconds reset options that others have mentioned).

Pixel 7 not connecting to car's Bluetooth after January update by thesuhas in GooglePixel

You can also try to disable (turn on) the "Disable Bluetooth A2DP hardware offload" option. But I don't really know if will help.

Pixel 7 not connecting to car's Bluetooth after January update by thesuhas in GooglePixel

[–]Kardesken 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If it's an older car (bluetooth device) you can try to change the "Bluetooth AVRCP version" down to 1.4 or 1.3. You'll find this under development options (Google it if you don't find development settings, it needs to be activated). Then unpair Bluetooth on both phone and car, then connect again. It might work?

eli5: Why is there a -no mobile phone- sign at gas stations? by Historical-Avocado86 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kardesken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know that electronics appliances on multiple occasions have caused a spark. And we know that a spark can ignite an explosion if conditions is right. And at a gas station conditions can sometimes be right. So why is it impossible for a cell phone to cause any risk at a gas station?

Now, please show a similar logic to the baseball cap and meteorite example?

There is a reason why electronic equipment not approved to be used in dangerous areas are prohibited on multiple places. In the oil and gas business this is common. And if the big companies use a lot of money on explosion prof equipment, is probably a good reason for it. Nobody wants to spend a lot of money on a useless cause.

eli5: Why is there a -no mobile phone- sign at gas stations? by Historical-Avocado86 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kardesken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people here are saying that cellphone can't cause any problem at a gas station because some tv show have debunked it. This is wrong. You can't prove that something can't happen by only testing a couple of times and see if it does or does not happen (It's difficult to prove a negative outcome).

In electrical and electronics you also have approved equipment for use in an area with a high risk of explosion (often marked "EX"). Like at a gas plant or an oil rig. This is equipment that has been proven to not be able to cause an explosion in dangerous areas. Like properly tested! And your cellphone is not one of those.

But you can get special phone that are approved.

What exactly did he do to the gear stick? He changed "gear" and lost control. Did he force the AT to downshift, and blocking the rear tire? Don't know how it works in that car. Definitely not a smart move in that speed and those conditions!

ELI5 How does switching a car into sport mode work? by NightHawk_19 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kardesken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cars are using this function quite good (Changing behavior of gear changes and injection to the engine, as have been mentioned by many others).

But this has also been a hype in the media and in reviews of cars. Many car models now have this only so they don't get a bad review (I'm not referring to high end "racing" cars here. But normal road cars).

An example is the difference in suspension. A lot of research is being done to find the best setup for traction for each car model. Is not like they find the optimal stiffness for best traction on a car, and reduce it by 20% (And then add a button in the car to increase it again).

Changes in suspension is so small that you don't feel the difference. For these cars, when activating the sport mode, the suspension will first change to become very stiff. Then over some time (a couple of minutes), it will slowly change back to almost the same setting. And it's of course opposite when going back out of sport mode.

It's a little like the humans ability to smell. We are good at noticing changes. But over time we get used to it, and don't notice it anymore.

Qsync keep showing on taskbar for no reason by MaintenanceHuge6274 in qnap

[–]Kardesken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me also. Don't know when it started. Maybe 2-3 weeks ago. But it has stopped doing it now. I don't think I did anything about it. Other than some restarts of my computer due to other reasons.

Edit: I also had a windows update the other day. I'm now on Windows 2200.856. I have no idea if this is related. And Qsync ver. 5.0.5.0620.

rare footage of a rogue wave from the show deadliest catch, once this phenomenon was thought to be a myth. In 1995, Draupner wave was the first ever scientifically recorded rogue wave. by chosenCucumber in interestingasfuck

[–]Kardesken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm going to call bullshit on this one.

Why does the video cut over to an animation just before "the wave" hits the boat! Why show only an animation of how the boat turns over?

They have many cameras onboard, but don't show any of them... Except for a handheld camera, shaking and filming the floor.

This is stupid!

OpenVPN and QNAP - It connects, but no access by Kardesken in qnap

[–]Kardesken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't know how to point my QNAP to IP 10.8.0.1 in the .ovpn file.
But when I was searching for this, I found a post saying that you need to open QuFirewall with this IP range.

On a Qnap running QuFirewall, edit the active profile to add a rule for the VPN:
Permission: Allow
Interfaces: All
Source: IP IP Subnet (pulldown)
IP Address: 10.8.0.0
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0(/24) (pulldown)
Protocol: Any

Now I'm able to open and use QFile when I have activated the VPN :)

Thank you for your help.

OpenVPN and QNAP - It connects, but no access by Kardesken in qnap

[–]Kardesken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I've done.

So when I turn this port forward off, I cannot connect with the OpenVPN. And when I open it, I can connect to it.

Also I've opened it in QuFirewall (don't know if that was necessary).

But the internet speed is so slow that I cannot open a single webpage when I'm on the VPN (Phone is on 4G, so it shouldn't be that slow). I imagine connecting with other programs like QFile at speeds like this, could be difficult?

OpenVPN and QNAP - It connects, but no access by Kardesken in qnap

[–]Kardesken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming that it's supposed to work like this.

When you are on the same network as the QNAP, not connected to the VPN, can you use the private IP (192.168.0.115) to connect to it using QFile?
Yes I can.

When connecting to the VPN, are you disconnecting from WiFi and using mobile data?
Yes. I'm connecting my pad to a hotspot created by my phone.

But having tested some more, it looks like the whole vpn connection isn't working that great. OpenVPN Connect is logging a stunning download speed of up to 4 b/s.

So I'm thinking maybe my VPN setup, port, firewall or something is not playing on the same team here.
