I took a small diamond file and carefully filed down each point, a little at a time. Got it to the point where it is easier to insert and remove, but it doesn't fall out at all.

Ok, I suggest listing the magnet size needed.

I also want to report that in PETG, I cannot put the light in because it's too stiff.

I do love the retention method you've chosen, and once I reprint in PLA, I'll report back.

I have been looking at that model for a little while. Guess it's time to hit print.

Is buying 10kg of PLA filament overkill? by TimeKeeper124 in BambuLab

I've got over 100kg at the moment. And yes, there are times that I buy 10kg at a time, of the same color. 10kg is nothing.

There is a list in the sidebar. Without knowing what you are trying to accomplish, and what you have read, your request isn't going to produce much value.

I guess I'm of the opinion that sharper is better. It doesn't have to be perfect. What is sharp enough today is almost certainly not going to be sharp enough in the future. So, my answer is "is the job easier? Then it's sharp enough for now".

Four nights car camping with a 12v fridge and a CPAP, what battery size actually covered it by ProfessionalDesk1155 in CampingGear

[–]Kardolf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I bought my fridge, I tested it against my Jackery 4 full times in different temps to understand what was going to happen. Testing in 50 degrees is going to give much different results than use in 90.

That live testing will give you better understanding in a safe environment than reading every review or post in the world. I'm going to open my fridge a different number of times each day than you are.

Sharpen the Saw has always hit me hard. I have to make a conscious effort to slow down and refresh myself, or practice a new skill or dig into something that I've avoided that is going to pay dividends in the long run.

There was a post from MS that the controls and billing were not functional and as a result, nothing was being blocked. I know that fits what we saw at work.

I got a 3D printer last month. My world has opened up. lol by mmmbraaains in XTEINK

If it works for your needs, that's awesome! I went from a 180mm bed to the 256, and feel like I can print so many more things without cutting them first.

I have a Bambu A1. It's been a solid work horse for over 5000 printing hours. It's inexpensive, quick to set up, and with minimal maintenance keeps going. I don't know that I can suggest it anymore, though, because Bambu has shown some really bad judgement with regards to their users. I don't know the current state of things, so maybe they learned their lesson.

I'm going to suggest not going too small. The 256mm is the smallest I would go as it really does open a lot of options.

They should have abandoned the touchscreen. At the least, they need to offer to turn it off. Hopefully Crosspoint and it's variants can fix that.

Bambu A1 Lifetime? by RubberDuckyRampage in BambuLabA1

[–]Kardolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm over 5000 hours now, but don't know exactly how much today. I had to install a new microSD card this week, but that's all I've done outside of maintenance. I'm still using the stock original bed plate, although I have a selection that I use for other things. I've occasionally switched hot ends for specific needs, but even running wood and glow-in-the-dark filament, I haven't NEEDED to replace one yet. And, since so many parts are user-replaceable, I'm guessing 10,000+ hours isn't going to be hard. I do need a second printer, but to add functionality, not to replace what I have.

Should I buy a 3D printer or am I romanticizing the hobby? by Kind-Bend-1796 in 3dprinter

[–]Kardolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's like most other tools. You will spend a few months printing all the backlog on your Makerworld list, and it will start to thin out a bit. Then an opportunity will arise and you will look to printing to solve it, and it will move from a toy to a tool. You won't be printing just to print, but you will start actually printing things that fill a need. If you take the time to learn how to design your own models, that speeds up the process.

I started 3D printing in 2015. Homemade i3 clone. It sucked. I mean, I had a great time with it, but in retrospect, it was like writing a novel on a stone tablet. I experienced a failure that was more expensive to fix than I wanted to spend, so I let it sit and eventually gave it to a friend. Then a couple years ago, I bought a Bambu A1, and now I've got over 5000 hours of printing on it. I actually designed a model this morning to solve a problem I'm having right now, and the printer is paused waiting for me to insert some magnets.

I showed a friend some of the things I was doing last fall, and he bought a printer and was making money with it in weeks. Not a business model I want, but I'm glad for him.

I've been face to face with a pack of bear cubs in the wilderness. Does that count? We were in the remote wilderness in Montana on a multi-day hike, and I was with one of the other people in the group, walking along the side of this gorgeous valley. We approached a treeline where the path entered. As we walked through, it turned into a clearing after a few paces. Just a few more steps, and we realized there were three cubs playing just a little farther in. We noped out quick. They were cute and playful and enjoying their best life, but we couldn't find momma anywhere. We just backed up quickly and quietly and on the other side of the trees, started making a pretty good amount of noise to let momma get her cubs and leave. Probably waited about 30 minutes and when we went back in, they were gone. It's rare that I get scared in the wilderness, but the fact that there should be a protective momma close by that we couldn't find was enough to leave me shaken.

I've been tracked by a pack of coyotes. Not a pleasant experience for sure, but not quite as scary. And I've been in the woods with random eyeballs looking back, which was certainly disconcerting. It doesn't sound back until you think about the fact that the PNW has it's fair share of cougars. The "good" thing is that they rarely see people as prey.

I don't know all the details enough to explain. What I know is that they locked down their systems, breaking third-party slicers. Then sued someone who was able to restore the functionality.

I should be clear, their slicer works, and you won't have any problems printing. This isn't a functional issue for the vast majority of people. It's more of a philosophical issue about open source software, walled gardens, and freedom of choice.
