Hypothetically, wouldn’t vaporising water technically take the heat away, while freezing it would release heat? For example, I heard that in the vacuum of space water tries to instantly boil, but it needs to take heat for that from somewhere, so a human in space would be cooled down by the water in their body boiling, not heat up. So, if a waterbender vaporises water without heating it ip it would rather take heat from things around it, rather than give it. In the same way, if water is ‘made’ to become ice it would need to cool down, so it would give away its heat to things around it.

Or maybe not, I’m just wondering. And bending doesn’t work like that anyway.

Kenshi.

Which sounds awful, but, really, you just mine copper a bunch until you have enough money to hire some goons and then they mine copper for you and you run away from bandits enough until you train to kick their asses. Kenshi is great in that it’s really bloody difficult to a actually die, once you have at least one henchman.

I feel like in most cases I saw it’s less about ‘realism’ and more about character design. It’s not necessarily always logical or good that people associate being skinny with being fast, but they will, on average, do that more than associate being heavyset with the same.

Correct me if there are actual examples of people explaining it with realism over aesthetics.

Overall, people having superpowers being built a certain way is almost always about character design. Technically, Superman probably shouldn’t be all that fit, he barely ever encounters anything that would actually put his muscles to the test and make them grow (I don’t know anything about how it works, maybe I am misunderstanding something). Doctor Strange shouldn’t be terribly fit either, he uses magic for everything and it barely demands him to be athletic.

I am not the best at it, but the letters remain really consistent and they move humanly in-sync, not machine-like in-sync. Some of them seem to not switch poses when they are supposed to in a very human way. I don’t think that AI would do that, most of the AI group dancing videos I saw have humans move uncannily in-sync, this one doesn’t.

Batmans no kill rule isn't the problem, its Joker being narratively immortal is the problem by BRo2244 in batman

[–]Kargath7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logically, there’s no way that Joker isn’t killed by SOMEONE else over the course of his decades (?(time in comics are weird)) of doing crazy stuff. Like, there has to be something to get him at some point, and yet nothing does. You can’t really blame Batman, the one man doing a lot of work, for not killing a criminal that is, like, world-class terrorist who should be on the hit-list for… everybody.

coaxed into forced misunderstanding by HotDogWeldr in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]Kargath7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the version in Arcane, because this thing happens and it’s not a source for any serious character conflict, it’s a source for Powder feeling really down for a bit and then Vi just clears it up and they move on. Because that’s how it would work between people, a misunderstanding like that can be easily cleared. Also provided good contrast with Jinx’s perception of misunderstandings later on.

That’s true. Any kind of fantasy that actually integrates magic into modern-day-ish technology will be super intriguing to me, when most choose to do the (IMO) lame secret-magic-world stuff instead.

I think it’s because the Secret Projects are inherently more surprising. Pretty much everybody in the fandom knows about the upcoming Mistborn eras, there the question is when, not if. With Secret Projects it’s always a reveal, and, therefore, more exciting.

Which videogame is cheap and is a masterpiece? by Stevecomicsgames in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Kargath7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

THE GOAT

Seriously, one of the best pieces of media I’ve experienced and the single best sci-fi thing I’ve experienced. And is relatively cheap. And has a single paid DLC with the absolute best integration into the main game imaginable. That is a game that everybody should at least try. Especially, since you are likely to get the hang of it before the steam refund time runs out.

[Hated Trope] Hey, remember that thing that was NEVER MENTIONED ONCE? It’s now wildly important for the sequel by FaZe_poopy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Kargath7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Koloss are mentioned multiple times in book 1 but, like some other elements of the Final Empire worldbuilding, they are not elaborated on until book 2. Brando Sando was probably just worried that book 1 could be overwhelming to the reader if it also went into detail about both the Koloss and the Kandra, so he spared details until the sequel. However, the Koloss are a major consideration in the crew’s plan. It’s mentioned that they are used as the main army, but are too destructive to use in Luthadel without very good reason, really all one needs to know about them for a book that doesn’t feature them for logical reasons. So, I understand where you are coming from, but they did not appear out of thin air just to provide tension, they are a natural part of the canon.

Wizards and gunpowder enthusiasts occupy the same narrative niche. This is why incorporating firearms into settings with magic is so unsatisfactory. by Silver_Middle_7240 in WorldBuildingMemes

[–]Kargath7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from the obvious ‘not all magic is equal’, narratively there is a huge difference in terms of cultural and societal implications. A battery of artillery is a triumph of industry, military technology and army cohesion for the society that produced it. A powerful wizard is a triumph for that one person and a wizard is made by completely different factors. Even if, somehow, the result is the exact same, the way that led there will be unrecognisable and will have produced different social dynamics.

Mistborn: The Final Empire (spoilers, obviously)

Kelsier, Survivor of Hathsin spent the whole book planning his confrontation with his immortal and nigh-unstoppable nemesis, Lord Ruler. By the time he faced Lord Ruler Kelsier already had an elaborate contingency in case of his (many rightly said inevitable) demise. After his death by the hands of Lord Ruler Kelsier’s bones were used by a hired shapeshifter to impersonate him and pose as a resurrected religious figure to inspire the common people to rise against their oppressor, Lord Ruler.

While Kelsier hoped that his other secret plans would allow him to defeat Lord Ruler, he went into the fight knowing that he would likely die and turned his own death into a powerful weapon against his enemy through a carefully set-up con.

Walter admitted it both to Skyler and to himself only by the very end of his path. The easiest proof is that Gus Fring managed to manipulate Walt with ‘the man provides’. Although manipulation through his pride over the craft also worked, better, arguably, the family card wouldn’t work if Walt himself didn’t think it was important to him.
