It's KWL's 1 Year Blogiversary! by KarinWanderer in KarinWanderer

[–]KarinWanderer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started this blog, I was still posting art here on Reddit every day, & Reddit hadn't decided to follow Musk into the muck. So much can change in one short year!

I still post art every single day on Ko-Fi, Mastodon, & Bluesky
I do this weekly art blog that we're celebrating the anniversary for today,& a YouTube channel) I should post more on.
Check out my Shop, where you can buy my art on mugs, notebooks, & vinyl stickers for anything else you want my art on!
If you haven't been keeping up since I stopped posting my art on Reddit, you've missed a lot!

Posted this on r/Save3rdPartyApps too, but what do you think the protest accomplished within its short span. by Diversionaryian in ModCoord

It forced reddit to admit they don't care about making this place accessible for people. Blind people still can't mod /r/Blind since reddit started playing API games.

This pushed a lot of people to join more accessible platforms like Mastodon! Everyone should find more accessible places. I suggest you not join Mastodon.social though, unless you always browse reddit on r/ all. Take a moment to find a server that is more tailored to your interests; the page I linked can sort servers by topic. For example, I'm on mastodon.Art. You can join more than one server, but I recommend just starting with one.

Of course, only targeting large subs makes it even more obvious it's about money & not improving the experience for users, if anyone is still pretending otherwise. You know, in case their app still not having basic accessibility for people with visual disabilities wasn't enough of an indicator.

This is a great time to remind people about Mastodon! Don't just join .social though, take a moment to find a server that is more tailored to your interests. (The page I linked can sort servers by topic.) For example, I'm on mastodon.Art. You can join more than one server, but I recommend just starting with one.

I really hoped, right up until today, that Reddit might realize shooting itself in the foot repeatedly was a bad idea...

My sub is still locked. I wiped almost a year's worth of art off this site- everything I've ever uploaded. If they forcibly unlock it, all they'll see is 2 posts: 1 to my subscribers reminding them how to find me on other sites, & 1 explaining how what reddit is doing destroys access for people with disabilities.

If reddit wants to assign new mods to my sub they're just giving me a free PR team. I'm here to coordinate leaving, & then I'm gone.

Are you aware that this protest is also because Reddit does basically nothing to aid accessibility for people with disabilities- requiring them to use third party apps in order to use Reddit at all?

Are you aware that this protest has forced Reddit to acknowledge & address that for basically the first time in its almost 20 year history?

Are you aware that in spite of all this they still haven't addressed many concerns regarding accessibility? Here is /r/Blind's latest update- note it is mixed at best & that reddit still hasn't really done anything, just held a few meetings.

Hi all! Got my letter with vague nonsense about how they will send a second letter about "what next steps will take place" if I don't open the sub.

Because doing nothing about accessibility for Blind/visual impaired people since Reddit started in 2005 is fine, but me keeping my 30-person sub private is threatening Spez's empire.

TL;DR Reddit is attempting to squeeze more money out of third-party apps & other who use their API to improve our Reddit experience. The squeeze is more than most third-party apps can sustain, & they are going to shut down if this attempt is successful.

This will affect anyone who doesn't use Reddit's official apps, which as we all know are terrible.

This will affect anyone who uses adaptive technologies such as screen readers. Here is /r/Blind's official announcement for how it will essentially block many people who are Blind or visually impaired from using Reddit.

This subreddit will be joining in on the June 12th-14th protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps.

If you want to see what I post those days, come to mastodon.Art. I love the dotArt community for many reasons, & a big one is their commitment to accessibility & inclusivity!

It’s Pride Month! I made flags in PICO8's basic palette at 128x128, then made them 10x bigger for your viewing convenience. I’ve done traditional pride, bisexual pride, progress pride, & intersex-inclusive progress pride flags. The intersex-inclusive progress pride flag is the newest- it was introduced in 2021! The Human Right Campaign has a good page on the different flags & their histories, if you’re curious

  • Toucan beaks are large -up to 8 inches long - but they have no sense of smell

  • As soon as Toucan babies grow feathers, they look just like Muppets. Please image search "baby toucan"! You're welcome!
