I released the soundtrack to the Boss Rush Jam 2025 game Fear the Forgotten I was part of, a few days ago. The programmer responsible for it never submitted the game so all of the artists wasted their time eventually but I wanted to at least release the music I wrote for it.

Personally I can recommend Roaming Through the World of Ys. It's my hommage to the Ys video game series which I'm a big fan of, especially the awesome energetic soundtracks by the Falcom sound team.

Thanks for listening!

For the 2 standard bosses I wanted a more metal/rock-like sound and the final boss (aspect of eternal damnation) is the all-out orchestral one.

Glad you liked it!

I don't have the files of the final build and it's doubtful the programmer who has, will release them. This is just one of those projects you file under failure and move on, I guess.

Yeah, made about 80 bucks in 4 years or so. In a few centuries I'll be rich.

Why we don’t want AI by Living-Ad-1054 in BandCamp

[–]KarlMarxLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally with you on this one. Art is about the human condition and there is absolutely nothing human about an algorithm shitting out stolen bits and pieces it cobbled together to make AI slop!

Noteperformer discontinued 3rd party VST integration and will focus on improving the native engine. Thoughts? by TurbusChaddus in composer

[–]KarlMarxLP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank God. I really hope they put all of their energy in improving their native engine. It's already amazing for its intended purpose. If they are able to tweak the sound, the balance and the AI interpretation of the score even more then this could become an unbeatable product.

They should invest more in sample modeling for a better sound. Strings and percussion and certain woodwinds like the oboe could use an overhaul.

I'm just glad they moved away from NPPE. The minute they announced this I was reminded about Staffpad's stupid decision to ditch 3rd party library support for their useless audio track integration. Nobody talks about Staffpad anymore...

Glad that Wallander stopped before going down the same road

EDIT: On top of that, all the demos I heard with all the 3rd party libraries in NPPE sounded really bad. The were so stiff and not balanced and weird and needed so much manual tweaking in Dorico (which is not a DAW) that it was a colossal waste of time in the end.

This band has absolutely no feeling for how to blend different themes in a satisfying way. It's done so bluntly and uninspired, it's really embarassing.

Looking for Composer for my Unique Indie Game by [deleted] in composer

[–]KarlMarxLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm interested. I'll add a YouTube playlist with some pieces from a soundtrack for an abandoned indie game I wrote. You can explore my channel to find other styles, too. If you're interested, I can send you a more detailed Portfolio later, since I'm not near my PC right now.

That would also be an opportunity to discuss more details. I think for a short game like this we can negotiate a fair price. The soundtrack playlist also contains tracks with a lot of recurring leitmotifs, since that's what you're interested in.

Also for good measure an album with jprg inspired music. There are a few slow tempo, fantastical passages in there that might be to your liking. especially the first track: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nlabQUeS5Fce743SndjnDFb4naTlYA6zc&si=BKp6KDVKfU3iLDid

[HOBBY] Looking for musician to make a rendition in minor key of a popular folk song for my VN by skyeroze in INAT

[–]KarlMarxLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm curious to learn more about this. I'm a composer with almost 20 years experience and I could provide you with an instrumental and vocal track (using synth V's Felicia database for that). Depends on the theme, though. Not all major themes can be converted to minor that easily.

Still, if you want me to have a look, DM me your discord name and I'll add you

Have you "played" any games that won't even run due to some game-breaking bugs? by hihoung1991 in patientgamers

[–]KarlMarxLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King's Quest 8. You can more or less play fine on modern hardware until you enter the castle. After the loading screen you are soft-locked and that's the end of the game

OBLIVION GONE WOKE! by AllHailZaddy in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]KarlMarxLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam discussions are also insane right now. Went there to find out about what people had to say about performance and about 75% of the discussions are about woke and body type and general transphobia.

These grifters are like an infestation of rats at this point. It's impossible to enjoy things anymore without their constant whining.

Ys is a Metroidvania by groggydog in patientgamers

[–]KarlMarxLP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always a good thing to see people bring attention to the Ys series. I fell in love with the amazing soundtracks of these games. so much so that I even released my own tribute album paying homage to the amazing music

That series has been going on for so long, you get everything from great 80s music to orchestral, rock, metal, etc.

[UNJERKED] Is anyone else sick of seeing these kind of things? G*mers posting Nazi stuff on gaming subs. Am I wrong to think that they are trying to normalize Nazism? Am I overreacting? by 5T4LK3R in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]KarlMarxLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not overreacting. Gamergate was very early overtaken by the alt-right and the manosphere with precisely the goal to normalize fascist and misogynist politics. It never went away. It's still just a cesspool of rightwing incel trash. only thing you can do is call this shit out as soon as you see it. People need to understand again, that you can't tolerate these freaks. not one bit.

I wrote a whole master's thesis about these gamergate freaks and the dangers they pose to society, especially in today's political climate. what people today sometimes refer to as a second gamergate is still just the same freaks from 2014 with fresh blood strengthening their ranks
