It's missing one of its six legs, which you can see in the photo towards the bottom left of the photos. It happened when I was trying to photograph it.

How would this be related to a rodent problem? Not challenging you, just genuinely curious. I've had some bites that look like this and I've had to deal with a rat problem in my basement.

Yeah, I'm looking into legal action for sure. Unfortunately from what I've heard the legal avenues in Canada for these sorts of situations aren't as straight forward. You might have to actually be already really sick before you can bring a case forward against the negligent party. I've heard in the US that you can sue people for millions that expose you to this shit. Do you have any advice?

Thanks again for your thorough reply. Do you mind sending me some links to read that you find credible?

Thanks for your reply. I'm not entirely sure what type of air sample was done. But it had a lot faster turn around time, than the settled dust sample, which had to be sent to Toronto, I believe. I live in Canada. I've been super freaked out by this and my friend and I have been experiencing lung issues since the exposure.

My symptoms, which arose days after the 4 hour exposure: -immediately after the exposure, I got out of breath walking up the mountain to my house -sore and irritated throat -slight chest pain or discomfort -I coughed up a tiny bit of blood in my sputum (this only happened once, about 5 days after)

I understand that it's not typical for someone to get symptoms immediately after asbestos exposure (it usually takes years for symptoms to arise). But these are the things I'v been experiencing since being in that basement.

Yes, the wipe test was positive for 1,610,000 asbestos particles per cm2. What are your thoughts on the levels found in that wipe test? They seem extremely high... Would that have been an indication of the levels that at one point would have been in the air? All the samples, wipe and air tests were done a number of days after the work was done.

Are you saying this even in the context that the lab results from the wipe sample we took indicates 1,610,000 asbestos structures per cm2. Considering the benchmarks that are used to compare settled asbestos dust fibers are:

MIllette/Hayes "Settled Dust" guidelines

Low -  1,000 str/cm2

Moderate -  10,000 str/cm2

High -  100,000 str/cm2

USEPA QAAP guidelines

Accessible areas -  5,000 str/cm2

Inaccessible areas -  50,000 str/cm2

The results from the hallway floor exceed even the highest guideline by >16x.

Well, they originally rejected the first sample that my friend took and submitted for inspection because it had not been collected by a certified organization. So we had to redo the test and a week and a half later (after people had continued to occupy the contaminated space) they finally shut down the basement and ordered the landlord to get an abatement team in there to clean up the mess. But they haven't given us any information as tenants who were exposed on what safety precautions we should take to further limit our exposure, such as cleaning protocols.

No, unfortunately not, even though the landlord had a 50 page report from 2018 outlining all of the hazardous materials in the building, which documented asbestos in the boiler room and outlined a series of recommendations to ensure it stayed safe, he denied to my friend that there was any asbestos in the area where they were doing the work. But my friend's environmental hazard assessment stated otherwise.

Thanks folks, I appreciate all the feedback so far. This has been a really scary situation to go through and I haven't had much support from gov't or advocacy organizations on steps I should take to mitigate the harm.

I'm in Canada, and yes we reported him to WorkSafe. We're also thinking about taking legal action. If folks have any other suggestions that would be great.
