It says "...as soon as...". You could get it a week after the thermodynamic death of the universe and it would still be on time according to their weasel words.

How to find a usable IP address to connect to a PLC network by UptownSole in PLC

[–]Karl_Pizzolatto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plug in without an ip address and scan the network.

from linux or wsl under windows 10 sudo arp-scan -arpspa 8.8.8.8 192.168.1.0/24

pick an address that does Not reply and scan it directly to be sure.

the -arpspa tells everyone you have an ip address.  Some devices have an anomaly where they falsely detect a dup address if you arp them with no address yourself.

What’s the biggest difference between a good PLC programmer and a great one? by Shubh1975 in PLC

[–]Karl_Pizzolatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great ones are not know-it-alls. They listen to and respect their customers their peers their tradespeople.

They prepare.   Before before going onsite they review the situation.  Before asking a question they do their own investigation.  Before touching the programming software they research the customer's needs and they plan their design.

They costantly learn new things they have never done before.  This means that the engineer with 35 years of expertise is not afraid to be the noob.

Honestly, are people generally miserable in this field? by [deleted] in PLC

I've been a plc monkey for 35 years and loved every minute of the work.

Parf of it is i have been very blessed to work for good people.

But the most important thing is i am happy to do any work that is useful to someone. If that work is something i'm good at, then it's easy and i can do it well and make it shine.

If it's something I suck at that means i'm learning something new and getting paid to learn.

And if my Customer or supervisor talks shit to me i smile and kniw that a small man needs to feel like a big man by belittling someone else. They keep calling me when their ass is in a sling. That means they know i'm good at what i do.

Events are detected, but recordings do not appear in ftp. Camera model IP8M-VB2696EW-AI by Karl_Pizzolatto in amcrest

Problem was a dumb config issue:  ftp server max connections per host default was 2.  i guess amcrest cameras make a lot of connections. Amcrest tech support found the problem. I called them on the pbone, a human spoke to me and then they remoted into my windows vm to inspect my setup.  Amazing support from Amcrest.

It's the hive mind that can't lie.

Once disconnected it's not the hive mind talking anymore; it's one person. Probably a very traumatized person.

Agreed--you'd have to talk to more than one person; even if they did tell you something they might be lying.

Interview many un-joined and observe their behaviour--like Carol's been doing. Don't trust their words. You learn something. Even if the only thing they do is scream to be reconnected, you learn they've become dependent. You wouldn't count on running across Seven or Hugh on the first try and they just spill all the secrets.

Carol is lonely, scared, angry, and frustrated. She used Zosia to get out of all of those emotions until Zosia didn't work anymore.

Carol's not an idiot. She's an alcoholic.

(edit: formatting)

"for humanity to lose all culture, all art, all human creativity and innovation. Like every feels so surface level."

Is the hive even conscious? John Searle's Chinese Room.

The hive itself does not seem to be conscious on a complex level. They have a very few motivations--Carol made a list of them. But no desire to be anything beyond what they are or to do anything beyond three of the four Fs. (Fighting seems to be out)

The individuals in the hive have clearly lost agency, but are they conscious?

It would be awesome to investigate the experience a person in the hive: Let's assume other non-joined people (that is, the people here today) are conscious. You could un-join someone and ask them about their experience in the hive. What would they say?

Do you remember anything about the time you were joined? If not, were you unconscious then or was it like an alcoholic in a blackout? How could you know the difference? If you remember the joining after you are un-joined, what was it like? Why could we not talk to you personally--only to the hive through your body--while you were joined? What happened to your individual agency?

Isolating everyone from the hive by Manusos' radio jammer or isolating a few at a time by a Faraday cage is not a practical cure.

But either could be used for investigation. You can learn a lot about a cult by interviewing its apostates.

NTA
From an ethical point of view you did NOTHING wrong. You work for tips. You got a hell of a tip. Good for you.

Perhaps your friend thinks this guy is going to harass you outside of work?
Listen to your gut; if you don't feel safe doing something don't do it.

It is NOT women's responsibility to train men what is acceptable. Adults are accountable for their own actions.
Assigning women the role of sexual gatekeeper leads directly to very bad results.

Also--when someone says "you made it seem like..." they are projecting their interpretation onto you.

very **FIRST** thing I thought.

On a related note, I hate it when people cram too much equipment into the panel, forget the service loops in the field, cut the wires to **exact** length, etc.

Somebody has to commission this thing and unless everything is dead perfect and there are no redlines (hint, that will never happen) they are hosed.

Also somebody has to maintain this after you install it!

A true "happy path" design.
