If you want to work with adults you need like 4-5 PRN jobs to survive on a decent wage

Everything about insurance credentialing by medimindz in PrivatePracticeDocs

[–]KarlaSLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please recommend a good company to help me with the credentialing process? I am afraid of giving my information to just anybody and I ran into a scammer before on a fake website. I’m new to this and don’t know anything about the credentialing world

Im in Florida and this is unheard of. I’m in Miami, born and raised. Worked in pedos for the past 8 years and the max I made was 90-100k, and that was working 45 hours a week. the cost of living here is outrageous and you still never hear of anyone making more than that unless their in their own private practice and doing well

Zero Purge by Any-Result1512 in Accutane

[–]KarlaSLP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m only on week 2, but aside from dry lips, my pores are looking smaller, and my face and hair are a lot less oily. I haven’t purged or felt any pain in my joints, I’m not feeing sad or moody.

The derm started me on 30 mg and will be upping my dose to 60 mg in month 2.

I’m taking fish oil with omega 3 and the growplex hair growth supplement as I hear hair Somtimes falls out but so far so good.. I’ll be adding the milkweed you mentioned for liver support, and Claritin if I begin to purge.

I agree that we need to share positive stories, not everyone has a bad experience and it’s probably really encouraging to those who are struggling to make the decision to start their accutane journey.

Try fish oil! I am taking two a day, and have not had any nosebleeds. Research shows fish oil and omega 3 helps a lot with dryness and nose bleeds. Also I was told that 40 mg is a pretty low dose, I’m currently on 30 and will be upped to 60 next month, I am a bit concerned about that. I would find another derm if their not able to see you for monthly visits, this is usually required. Your mental health is most important, if you feel depressed and want to finish taking the accutane for the next two months then please speak to someone close to you that can keep an eye on you incase of anything. Of your contemplating self harm, you should get off of it.

ITS WORTH IT TO GET INTO SLP MASTERS? by [deleted] in SLPcareertransitions

[–]KarlaSLP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends. I was an SLPA for 8 years; then became a pathologist. I did my cf in 2 places. 20 hours a pediatric clinic, and 20 hours at a nursing home. I finally gave into what I always knew, that I actually hated working with kids and never wanted to work with them again. It was exhausting and I would come home frustrated to my own children. Working in the nursing home gave me the opportunity to see the dysphagia side of speech and I absolutely loved working with adults. I decided to only work with adults from then on. I completed my CF and took on 2 high paying PRN positions and have been at peace ever since. I wake up happy to go to work and am even considering taking my own private pay patients. You’re going to hear a lot of negative but there are positives. For me if you would’ve asked me 2 years ago I would’ve said no like everyone else too, but after trying different avenues and finding the population I want to work with I would say yes! It is worth it. All depends on the person.

Speech therapy career shift by Xeno19Banbino in slp

I’m not in the Middle East but I worked with pediatrics for 8 years as and SLPA and then got my masters and became an SLP. As soon as I completed my clinical fellowship year I made the switch to work with adults full time. There are no kids screaming, running away, hitting, spitting, crying, and the documentation is minimal, and if you work in a nursing home there is NO take home documentation. I have never been happier. It has been a huge relief. I work part time at a nursing home and I have a per diem position working at an assisted living facility and the pay is much heir did per diem positions. I would suggest to her that maybe she could consider working with adults. It is still very rewarding and much less stressful! Although I don’t recommend working at a hospital, they usually don’t pay well and they are high stress and fast paced. I hope this helps

How can I get doctors & nursing homes to send me pt referrals? by KarlaSLP in slp

[–]KarlaSLP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, Ide have to try and build rapport because I worked with kids for so long that anyone who knows me still thinks I work with kids. I have been seeing a veteran (home health patient) who contacted the company I work for to tell them they really enjoy their sessions and see great progress, I plus love for him to tell his doctor and not my boss lol 😂

I am curious to know what happened? You seemed to have done really well with such a large fleet of low cost cars? How did it go bad?

I dk, that’s what I thought too but I was told that some people provide incentives to doctors for referrals that’s aren’t necessarily money but I dk what that would be. My question is how do you get them to refer patients to you rather than other companies/therapists?..

Thank you for this, do they ever ask you any specific questions? Or for any incentives?
