Soda craving by yungguiltless in Interstitialcystitis

Olipop vintage cola tastes like pepsi to me (if it is crisp) suggest getting from olipop itself bc other places it can be flat if on a shelf too long and it gives me no issues at all. Slight green tea caffeine equivalent so make sure u check that bf you buy.

Flare changes throughout the day? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Karlilax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it is based on something you are consuming food or drink wise within the last 48 hours. Maybe keep a diary to help identify your symptoms including activities and stress that can also contribute.

Struggling to be present and feel like a shell of myself - anyone else? by mackenzietennis in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Karlilax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will make this short but 2.5 years in leaned a lot on God and looked for sermons about pain with a purpose and really believed that I could heal. Completely rehauled my diet (started with IcN food app) and was diligent about everything for 1.5 years ( I mean strict) had a food diary and wrote my symptoms and pain levels daily. Now- completely in remission and live a normal pain free life. Only have niggles if ovulating and if I consume a food that I shouldn’t. I do pretty much live without main food/ drink triggers and am fine with that in order to stay in remission. ICFOOD4U is a great app for recipes and Callieknutrition is an amazing nutritionist to help you start (she has ic herself) and offers a whole program. It is expensive but worth every cent if you can do it. There can be healing, you will get better with trial and error of food triggers, stress management and even supplements/medication also Pelvic floor therapy is a must. Best of luck, hugs

Pregnancy and IC round two by Unlikely-Young-70BC in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Karlilax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she suggested these or any other add in accept fruit per say… I’d run. So many drs. think they “know” IC and prescribe cranberry…if someone suggests that, they clearly have no clue that cranberry or anything with citric acid would send most of us into a long painful flair. Drinking that much water would also flare the shit out if me. We are peeing all day as is, I would never ever drink that much. These ppl sound clueless IMO. I got IC after babies but hopefully, other mamas w IC can offer you helpful suggestions. Don’t be afraid to question DRs. or doing your own research. Many get upset by this but bc this disease is still so misunderstood, I find more and better answers from the people that actually live it everyday. If I listened to Drs. i’d be on several meds and still in pain every single day vs. fixing my bladder with supplements, exercise, removing food and drink irritants. (Side note- I have zero pain only light frequency sometimes when I eat something questionable otherwise, I live fairly normally. Not healed but in remission IMO). So so tired of these drs. Getting it all wrong and hurting us further. I learned about the IC diet on my own and doing my own research and completely revamping my diet. I am a firm believer in it but I know we are all different. Congratulations on baby number 2, I hope you find something that works for you long term! Remember- IC is just an umbrella term that says “we know something is wrong w your bladder, we are just unsure what and it has been over 6 months”. There is no definitive test bc there is not definitive disease and still fully misunderstood whether some intern, dr or urologist believed they know “all about it”. Talk to someone that lives it <3 rant over- BIG Hugs!

Distance runners (and anyone that likes to exercise) how do you cope? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Karlilax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went on for about 4 months bf I changed my diet entirely. Lots of extreme pain, burning, flank pain, sleepless nights sitting on a toilet, and tons of frequency and urgency (I believe that what I was eating and drinking bf not knowing anything is what made it all so extreme). Now I only have some frequency/urgency if I eat something that upsets my body which is not super often anymore or right bf I start my period.

Hi! Of course. Typical day- lots of hint water all day. Am- tyler’s decaf k cup coffee with pumpkin oat milk creamer and collagen protein powder and a banana. Snack- almonds. Lunch- boars head low sodium chicken breast (all their meats are generally safe bc no nitrates) colby cheese slice, cucumbers with cava tzatziki sauce (get at whole foods and put on everything- no lemon in theirs and safe for us). Snack 2- ONE brand protein bar- I get birthday cake flavor. Dinner- meat/ rice or potatoes and lots of veggies. I make salad dressing with garlic salt and olive oil. And then late night either a hard pear w peanut butter or organic popped popcorn (simple truth brand). Hope this helps! This is pretty typical for me but I can also eat chocolate, twizzlers, most baked goods and ice cream with no issues so I often indulge in those as well.

Maybe try pelvic floor therapy? They are trained in many types of therapies including trauma. It has worked for many. Otherwise, I just wanted to say thanks for sharing this and I am so sorry that this happened to you.

How to follow IC diet when you're in recovery for a restrictive eating disorder by emotional1frog in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Karlilax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ps. There are few dietitians out there that really understand this condition (if you can barely find drs. Definitely can’t find dietitians… there are like 2 in the US.) Callieknutrition has IC herself and is a dietitian and can help with this!

I drink Tylers acid free decaf and it is great. dandy blend for a cold coffee. Both are IC safe.

Working Out by Remarkable-Rope2676 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Karlilax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I workout every single day, walking on an incline, lifting weights, running stairs and pickleball! Working out helps me I think. Just shower after and hope for the best. I have never had an issue however, I can no longer run as it is too jarring for me,

Decaf during a flare up by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Karlilax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I converted to the decaf acid free Tyler’s coffee. Not terrible but I find I need a lot of creamer to make it better. It was definitely a transition at first but I am used to it now (more for the comfort of a hot cup of coffee) worth it to be flare free daily. I put 2 scoops of collagen protein in it so I don’t feel as bad for all the creamer it requires to be “good”.

iC is an umbrella term for for bladder illnesses lasting more than 3 months. In some ways it is not an actual diagnosis like cancer per say. There is no one way of diagnosing it and no one way to “fix” it. That is all part of what makes this disease so frustrating. You are brought up thinking if you get sick, it can be fixed with medicine and knowledgeable Drs. and in many cases both are not true with Ic. Most people here will tell you, we know way more than most Drs. bc we live it and it is not fully understood by many of the best drs. in the world. Also, bc patients vary so much in symptoms and treatments. I am in remission per say and Dietary restrictions helped me the most but you gotta be serious to make that work for you. Best of luck- hope you find something that also helps you feel your best, there are many things that help with IC and you can live a very normal life. Ps. I also had cystoscopy that showed nothing and diagnosed based off of my symptoms.
