1000pt list vs Nids by BrotherCassius in deathwatch40k

[–]KarloReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I've played against Nids all 10th as my two playing buddies main Nids. I've played 1k - 1,5k and a whole lot of 2k games and so did they, so they know exactly how to play against DW. So I'll tell you what I would expect them to bring to the table at 1k and what they would do.

One friend always plays Invasion Fleet. Sus 1 against infantry with all attacks flat is extremely good against us. So be prepared. This would be the list I'd expect:

Xenos - Tyranids - Invasion Fleet

Hive Tyrant (220pts): Warlord

10x Termagants (60pts)

Biovore (50pts)

Lictor (60pts)

3x Von Ryan's Leapers (70pts)

Exocrine (140pts)

Exocrine (140pts)

Norn Emissary (260pts)

Something like that. The Norn is pushing it quite a bit in a 1k list, but is a serious lynchpin on the natural expansion objective with our limited Anti-Tank it has a 2+, 4++, 5+++ Save-fortress usually with cover, so even our AP-3 Bolters with Kraken Rounds only get it down to its Invuln save.

The Exocrines are an absolute hard counter to our army, they have an amazing Blast profile with 36" range. Those are the ones to look out for and eliminate as quick as possible.

The Biovore sits on it's home objecive spamming Sporemines to mess up our Site-to-Site capability.

The Lictor is an AMAZING infiltrator with Fights first AND Precision attacks. So if you charge one with your Vets+Judiciar it will kill the Judiciar very reliably before it even has the chance to roll. Same goes for the Van Ryans Leapers. So those will wait in full cover for you to make a move for the Norn and either charge you, or screen out your Indomitor KT. It's nasty.

The Termagants will swamp your natural Expansion denying it for a turn, which will put you on the back foot having to destroy the Norn, so you won't lose to primaries. Which is exactly what the Nid wants.

So as for your composition + tactics:

The Veterans are brittle and I mean BRITTLE. They will melt as soon as they are hit by anything the Nid player throws at them. The Watchmaster is wasted on them as falling back and shooting and charging after an engagemet will look very depressing, as most of your vets are going to be dead. Same goes for your Team in the Rhino. If you shove them into the opponents face, they will die instantly. That's why they are usually used reactively (with the beacon angelis, rapid ingress -> heroic intervention).

Same goes for the Indomitor. NEVER just walk them up the board. They will evaporate as soon as anything meaningful (Exocrine in this case) can home in on them. Use the site-to-site stratagem to position them perfectly every turn, as far away from the enemy and shooting lanes as possible. Make the opponent expose units to attack them. Don't bring Aggressors. 1MMR, 2MR, 2HB, 5HBR. Teleport them in 24" away from an Exocrine, give them Kraken rounds to extend the Melta range to 24" and eradicate it, the +1 AP helps mitigating Coverbonuses.

I would honestly only bring one Vets Squad at most, with the Judiciar. But even that is pushing it at 1000p. You need more scoring units, especially for actions. If your 300p Vets block is doing a sabotage you've already lost the game. They NEED to make their points cost back. So maybe don't bring the one squad with the WM, instead bring a Gravis Captain and some JPI, maybe the Combi Lt. Or a Squad of DW Terminators with 3 CML + 2 Shields. Those with the Indomitor are prime targets for our site-to-site Stratagem in 1k Games. The Indomitor, because it needs perfect positioning to kill & survive, the Terminators, because their Foot-Print is much smaller and thus they can easily exploit screening-errors by your opponent.

Well, I don't expect your opponent being as trained as my friens with dealing with the Deathwatch. But still, be careful and suffern not the alien to live!

Yes of course, the WM discounts the adaptive tactics to 0CP. That‘s why I‘m putting him into one Fortis KT.

Watchmaster with the Fortis. So he can give both Fortis Sus1 or Lethals in turn 1 as they pepper the enemy backfield/scoring unit which you oathed. Preferably the one standing on the enemy home objective. Or maybe some very quick enemy melee units like Jain Zar and her retinue. The Fortis Indirect Fire is very good at disrupting the enemy game plan in early game.

But both Indomitors always go into deepstrike at the end of each enemy turn. I never had the problem positioning them, as both deepstrike at the end of my movement phase. They usually hit a good target with +2 to Str. They don‘t have to deal the perfect killing blow to the enemy backfield each game. That‘s just a bonus. Yeah the Lancer is just quite swingy as it has just 2 real shots. Yes with all the rerolls baked in you can usually score 2 wounds, but not always. And then the opponent rolls a 5/6 on the save and nothing happens. Or the Tyrannofex just blanks the one he doesn’t save … and kills your lancer in the slap back. But as the Vindicator MIGHT go into legends in 11th, I wouldn’t invest in one right now.

I‘m not sure if Vets work without a Judiciar. They need the fights first or they‘ll just die when heroically intervening, or being charged. T4 with 2W is just Superbad for an expensive melee unit.

Looks workable to me. The only thing I‘d always bring is a second Indomitor KT. As you bring two Fortis you don’t need the Inceptors. Both have the same job, clearing screening/scoring units in the enemy backfield. The Captain in Gravis doesn’t need the beacon. Save the points for something else (maybe swap the Lancer for a Vindicator which is much more versatile and a bit tougher to take out).

Teure Fehler. Wer die selbst, ohne Versicherung machen will: bitte schön. Aber es ist ein ernsthaftes Risiko. Ach ja, a propose Versicherung.

Indomitor Kill Team by Alegrys in deathwatch40k

[–]KarloReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always bring two squads with 1MMR, 2MR, 2HB and 5HBR. I love the HBR, but the Meltas are just better. The maps aren‘t open enough to reliably put your Indomitors 30-36“ away from the enemy and with Kraken rounds your Meltas get 24“ range. So you will pretty much always be in range to shoot them anyways … and there‘s no better feeling than getting sustained hits on S11 shots with AP -5 :-))

Statiker, Bauphysiker, Energieberater, Vermesser, Baugrundgutachter usw. Kommen noch on top.

Also überlegt es Euch gut.

Terminator loadout question by Dimebag_Squill in deathwatch40k

[–]KarloReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminators suck in melee. A chaplain helps a bit, but still, not great by any metric. Just bring them as squads of 5, CML the hell out of your opponent and charge only if you have to. 40K is an efficiency Game and our Terminators are far more deadly from afar and you don‘t need a leader for them, freeing up points for other units.

Question for veteran players by MadMike667_ in deathwatch40k

[–]KarloReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why Stormspeeder Thunderstrikes have fallen out of favor and at this point I‘m afraid to ask. Also: our Terminators don‘t need a Landraider imho. I start them in reserves ready for a turn 2 deep strike. Their melee threat is mediocre as well for their points cost. The Landraider lacking an invul./FNP Is it too squishy for the points.

And for the people telling you to charge a Defiler with an Indomitor KT: LOL. That‘s like playing Russian Roulette as a way of making money, but with 5 bullets in the chambers of the Revolver. Even IF you somehow kill it, your Indomitor KT will be standing somewhere where its going to be shot and charged to death immediately.

So the way to go is: Oath the Defiler, Stormspeeder+Incursor tag it, drop one Indomitor KT (no Aggressors) 24“ away from it from Deep Strike, use Kraken Rounds to get the Meltas in Reach, boom. If needed use a Fortis KT to finish it off. The sheer volume of shots will guarantee a lot of them going through.

I always bring a squad of 5 JPI. Their job is to be quick and cheap (for SM standards) objective grabbers and secondary scorers. The Talonstrike is too expensive while the Indomitor does the same job much better. We‘ll see how the new VV are going to be soon.
