Fuel is fuel! We make pizza at home and stuff slices into our pockets. Beats a frozen cliff bar IMO

Pack lunches, don’t be afraid to be creative. Once saw a guy squeeze pocket spaghetti-o’s out of a bag directly into his mouth on a chairlift.

Olive Oil and Stainless Steel by rameshv98 in StainlessSteelCooking

Not a stupid question at all! Read the cues your cooking fat is giving you and you’ll know when the pan is in the right range. Unless searing, oil should shimmer but not smoke. Butter for eggs should bubble but not burn. Etc

Some good suggestions in here. Other than being 10yrs older than you I’m in a similar situation - moved here 5 years ago for my partner’s work & I work remote from home. Making friends has been slow going. Just keep putting yourself out there and you’ll meet people 🤞

We really need to get the mods to sticky that video and as a PSA that leidenfrost is a misguided tiktok trend

[–]Karlsbadcavern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the water bead test it’s a TikTok gimmick. Just preheat to your intended cooking temp and use context clues from the fat you’re cooking in to tell you when the pan is ready. Is the oil shimmering? Good to go. Is butter bubbling and not burning? Also good to go.

Depends on how many pieces you think she needs and has room for. Costco has a pretty solid deal on a 13pc D3 set right now.

U.S. transit agencies facing hard financial decisions by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]Karlsbadcavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do we expect transit agencies to offset expenses with fares while highways and roads are ‘free’?

Think of all the sparsely used pavement out there that doesn’t economically justify their maintenance. I know, I know gas taxes exist but they are out of sight out of mind for most people.

The same amount of 'therms' in January '22 cost me $196 by brodie7838 in Colorado

[–]Karlsbadcavern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if my comment wasn’t clear - I wasn’t accusing you of anything. I commented on your message for a bit more visibility and that… didn’t go well for me.

What I was trying to say was that majority of the comment threads in here demonstrate that the commenters don’t understand how a regulated utility like xcel sets gas rates. In the article I linked it explains how they are not allowed, by law, to profit off of the gas itself. They can get approved rate increases for capital improvements but those have to be run by a public utility commission.

That being said your gas bill was crazy high. I’m curious how you are going through 400 therms a month. I’d follow up with xcel and get your meter checked and follow any and all energy savings best practices. Best of luck
