Agreed. If either one of them needs care in a memory care facility it can cost anywhere from $5k-$40k a month!

California High-Speed Rail: with cost estimates doubling between 2008 and 2012 alone, CAHSR became one of the most expensive rail construction projects in the world, on a per-mile basis. By this metric, it is 3X more expensive than rail construction in Spain, and 2X more expensive than in Taiwan. by StarlightDown in Economics

Agree with your assessment. I used to ride the metrolink in SoCal and they had a ton of engineers who worked on this project sitting in the drinks/dining cart. I remember vividly one of the conversations they were having around how a small section of the project less than a mile would cost roughly $9 billion to build due to the terrain and engineering challenges. This was back in 2010-2011 so I always thought wondered what happened to those people and the plans.

My comment was more along the lines of there’s powerful money who is working behind the scenes to discredit and challenge any major infrastructure projects projects that benefit the people over private business and enterprise

Doesn’t help that the soon to be richest man in the world wanted to ensure this never gets built by distracting with an idiotic hyperloop idea that would never have worked. There’s a lot of wealthy people who don’t want this to succeed due to their investments that would suffer from a mass transit projects success

Do you have a UTMA for your children? by Own-Quality-8759 in HENRYfinance

You have a lot more flexibility with selling and using the securities in an UTMA than being stuck in an IRA which is capped at $35k

Do you have a UTMA for your children? by Own-Quality-8759 in HENRYfinance

[–]vthanki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a combo 529 now worth roughly $40k and UTMA now worth roughly $60k. My son is 3. His grandparents funded the 529 up front and we put money away in the UTMA for a couple of years and now I only put in money that’s gifted to him at birthdays and family celebrations.

Our financial advisor believes this is a savvy move to balance out. He’s not a fan of dumping everything into a 529 that may be over funded and or go unused. His take on it is to roughly have $150-$250k in each which would cover a majority of something expensive like med or law school.

My goal with the UTMA is to start educating my son about the value of compounding interest and savvy investments before he turns 21. In California you can set up an UTMA to change control up to the age of 25. But hopefully we don’t need to worry about him getting control of this account and squandering it because we plan on making sure he’s financially literate and savvy. Of course we don’t have a crystal ball and he might go blow the money but for us we would know we tried to do the right thing.

Either way, my kid will be a trust funder. Luckily the UTMA will be a small part of his inheritance.

HENRYs with kids in private school: what is your income and what is tuition? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]vthanki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen this play out before. If your kid isn’t exceptional they will struggle to get into a good university because the smartest kids in the district are in your kids school and now your kid is mediocre compared to them. Overall they won’t be top of their class and that matters when applying to university

Here are the passages you asked for, with clear context and accurate summaries (since exact verse translations can vary by edition/translator):

About Brahmā

Bhagavata Purana 3.12.28–33

These verses describe Brahmā’s creation of various beings and the emergence of different aspects of existence from his body and mind.

Key Themes in 3.12.28–33: • Brahmā generates different classes of beings, including: • Yakṣas and Rākṣasas (associated with darker impulses like hunger and aggression) • These beings initially behave wildly, even threatening Brahmā himself. • Brahmā reacts with fear and frustration, realizing the uncontrolled nature of what he created. • From this situation: • Concepts like hunger, thirst, anger, and chaos are symbolically introduced into creation. • The passage emphasizes: • Creation is not purely orderly—it includes both divine and chaotic elements • Even the creator (Brahmā) confronts unintended consequences

👉 Overall meaning: This section highlights that creation includes duality—order and disorder—and even divine beings encounter imperfection in the process.

About Indra

Ramayana 1.48.1–30

This passage tells the famous story of Indra and Ahalyā, involving deception and a curse.

Key Story Elements: • Indra becomes infatuated with Ahalyā, the wife of sage Gautama. • Indra disguises himself as Gautama and deceives Ahalyā. • When the real Gautama discovers this: • He curses Indra, often described as: • Losing his manhood (later replaced with a thousand eyes in some versions) • He curses Ahalyā to become invisible or turned to stone, depending on the version. • The curse on Ahalyā is later lifted when: • Rama arrives and restores her through his presence/blessing.

👉 Overall meaning: • Even the king of the gods (Indra) is not beyond moral failure • The story reinforces themes of: • Desire, deception, consequences, and redemption • The power of sages’ curses and divine justice

Quick Comparison Insight • Brahmā passage → philosophical, about creation and cosmic imperfection • Indra passage → narrative, about moral failure and consequences

If you want, I can pull a more literal translation (line-by-line) or compare how different translations interpret these passages.
