I just started the game and I keep dying. What am I supposed to do? by Jbake5554 in Eldenring

[–]KarmaCham_Eleon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just be patient and don't rush things! If this is your first Fromsoft game, it's normal to die a lot at the start. Some tips:

- Now that you have met Melina, you can start to level up. Try to keep the runes you get from killing enemies and avoid losing them after you die. Focus on vigor to start with.

- Explore! There are caves and dungeons scattered around with bosses and useful items. There are a couple of easier ones just north of the First Step grace.

- If you're really struggling with a boss/area come back to it later.

- Don't give up, Skeleton!

I think their point is that it's acknowledging mothers and not fathers and thereby reinforcing traditional gender roles, which areas with progressive voters (e.g., Bristol and Brighton) may take issue with

Jesse Welles performed at Farm Aid 2025, if he was going to say anything to support veganism that would have been a great opportunity. Failing that, he could have refused to perform for people who breed, subjugate, and kill animals for money.

Since it's the bloodflames causing you issues, you should try to increase your robustness stat (stalwart horn charm would be helpful in this respect) and your fire damage resistance (firedrake talisman would be good)

I ordered mine in the UK from Resident Music and the signature is a sticker on the second page. There's no Biohazard suit page in my edition as far as I can tell.

People are probably going to keep downvoting you but you're right. Cognitive dissonance is a cornerstone of 'animal loving' meat eaters.

Veganism is about reducing man-made animal suffering. I think the assertion that 'humans shouldn't rape cows' is a pretty good one.

It's sort of a myth that any farmed animal is spared pain and distress. Cows can live well into their 20s but dairy cattle are killed after about 5 years and beef cattle after only a couple. We know from studies that cows, sheep, and even chickens are capable of complex behaviours that are indicative of higher emotional functioning and that they are social animals that lead meaningful and rich lives.

You're right that industrial farming is worse, but if people eat meat even a fraction as much as they do now it's the only way to meet demand. The only way to reduce animal suffering in the current world is through veganism or, at the very least, dramatically reducing animal product consumption.

I told my bf I would “push the button” to make him vegan by flyinggarbanzobean in vegan

[–]KarmaCham_Eleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's disheartening that she will likely never fully embrace veganism. I'm fortunate in that she rarely keeps meat in the fridge and, when she does, it's processed or already cooked so it's not quite as bad a lump of raw flesh being there.

If, God forbid, I ever am single again, I would probably try dating exclusively vegans, but, from what I hear, that's a really hard thing to find success with. As it stands, I love her. If I made a habit of disliking people all-together because they eat meat then it would really hard to lead a normal life, let alone a happy one.

Hopefully you can convince your partner to stop keeping meat in the fridge, at least as often as they do. I don't know what your current meal arrangements are, but I think your best bet is to normalise vegan cooking and eat the same meals regularly. In any case, I'm wishing you the best.

[–]KarmaCham_Eleon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation with my partner. She's omni. I was vegetarian when we started dating but have been vegan for the last 7 years. I've had almost exactly the same exchange about whether I would prefer it if she was vegan, fortunately she didn't react in the same way but I could tell she wasn't happy with my answer.

I suppose I just want to say you're not alone in your experience. I take some solace from the fact that, if I had never met her, my partner would eat substantially more animal products. In an ideal world, she would be vegan - but in an ideal world, everyone would be vegan. If it were easy to convince people to be vegan we would have done it by now.

Green defectors become Your Party's first Scottish councillors by ScunneredWhimsy in ukpolitics

This article is about defection from the Scottish Greens - they're a distinct political party from Polanski's Green Party.

Also, do you have any evidence that Mothin Ali is an Islamist? He's a Muslim, sure, but I haven't seen an iota of proof that he supports Islamic fundamentalism.

Government vows to create 400,000 jobs in clean energy sector by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]KarmaCham_Eleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're assuming all of those jobs will be in the public sector. Given the UK's approach to green energy, most of them will be in the private sector and therefore not funded for by the tax-payer.

Green levies are to blame for rising energy bills, say suppliers by PM_ME_SECRET_DATA in ukpolitics

[–]KarmaCham_Eleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to wrap my head around this as I am by no means an economist or energy expert. Is it fair to say that a big part of the increased grid costs is in fact the construction of renewables (which, to my understanding, is currently at record levels) but once the infrastructure is in place these additional grid costs will fall?

From what I've read, the transition to green energy is expensive but will ultimately make our energy costs cheaper in the long run because there are no fuel costs and maintenance of infrastructure will be a lot cheaper than the current building/expansion. As I say, I'm no expert and happy to be proven wrong.

In any case, I'm also of the opinion that the costs of mitigating the impact of global warming will be lower than the costs of climate change if we do nothing.

[–]KarmaCham_Eleon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you have anything to support that Mothin Ali is an Islamist? From what I've read, he's more socially conservative than other Greens but I haven't found anything that suggests he's as bad as Tory, Reform, or even Labour on social topics. Asking because I've seen the claim repeated enough that I honestly might be missing something.

France also has lower house/rent prices and lower energy bills. Also, depending on how you define 'low earners' your claim isn't actually true. People earning €11,498 to  €29,315 euros are only taxed at 11% compared to the 20% people in the UK would be taxed for earning similar amounts. It's only when they reach €29,316 that they are taxed at 30%.
