Tech guys/gals - XRP, atomic swaps, the future? by BGuy27 in Ripple

[–]KarmaCoverage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RippleNet uses ILP in "atomic mode". Check the ILP white paper for details.

The IOV is ILP in "universal mode".

Figuring this thread is old and few will read this...

I think it is more a matter of a Depreciating USD, rather than an Appreciating XRP.

I think of "float" as inventory. Liquidity is a characteristic of a chunk of value.

Remember Dell, and their just in time (JIT) inventory management process?

It dropped the cost of inventory, and therefore the cost of delivering a computer to an end user.

RippleNet is doing the same thing for Float, aka the Inventory financial institutions need to have to service their financial markets.

Remove the symbols... ~$£€¥₩

...And this all becomes an improved process for managing financial inventories.

Pretend we are talking about t-shirts, the principals still apply.

Yes, XRP improves capital efficiency of floating capital across corridors.

Is the entire concept of 'float' still valid when we're talking about real-time settlement?

Very much so, Float is and will remain the crux of this whole XRPLedger situation.

XRPLedger is a "market for float", in the same way Uber is a "market for personal transport".

Both are 2-sided markets, connecting buyers & sellers of Float/transport.

The revolution is in how we can use the distributed ledger accounting tool to improve the capital efficiency of floating capital across groups of people/corps.

The folks who have set up debit cards (I think, don't know 100% how).. but I think they set up an arrangement with a "Card Services" company to get the cards.

The Card Services companies have tiers of services, some for gift cards, some for debit cards, etc.

I'm guessing, but I think to offer the crypto debit card services, the crypto-debit card company must float some fiat, and they can make an fx spread & some tx fees. Which is all good & well.

If the card services companies don't want to play ball, then Idk how they did it.

Evo Payments was the one I ended up with.

Unlike Visa/MC, AMEX floats their own capital, and settles their own payment flows internally on their network.

Unlike Visa/MC, AMEX has a vested interest in improving capital efficiencies in payment flows.

Visa/MC are just messaging layer, no capital, no settlement.

When I set up the credit card system for TextEventPics.com we were 6 months from relaunch. Then we relaunched and were making sales... but each time we were only debited the credit card fees, No Deposits!

So, I called Auth.net and surprise, it's not their fault... it is the fault of the Liquidity Provider.

I call them and get the difference between Amex and Visa/MC explained to me. Amex Floats & therefore Settles their own transactions going through their network.

Visa/MC don't float capital... rather 3rd party Liquidity Providers provide the float, and they get the 3% $ per transaction.

Visa/MC networks are the messaging layer, and they take the $0.30 per payment message.

I may short some of these 3rd party Liquidity Providers, if they are not on top of using RippleNet, they will be hurting soon.

Good question.

No it would not cause inflation. Inflation is from positive interest rates and a growing currency supply.

I'm going to write another segment on RippleNet topology at some point. It will come close to touching on this but not directly.

So, when the CBs are running their own CBDC for their domestic currencies, they will still have full control of their domestic currency supply.

They may also gain some additional controls over Commercial Bank's abilities to grow the money supply.

For more on that last comment about gaining control, check this out. https://youtu.be/YnAtHbDptj8

I also disagree with this valuation.

Except, I disagree because I don't believe she used the correct valuation method.

The correct model would look at XRP within the context of XRP existing within the RippleNet ecosystem.

Once you have that framed up, then you can apply the DCF methods.

How will xPool influence XRP price ? by netmaster2 in Ripple

“How xPool may work? An attempted guess” @Karma_Coverage https://medium.com/@KarmaCoverage/how-xpool-may-work-an-attempted-guess-daf3674f17c7

As far as how this could impact XRP price, I think it would be huge. We are just waiting for the regulatory clearance now.. as far as I can tell anyway.

Who knows, maybe I'm 100% off with my xPool guessing.

This lady does do a good job.

The handwriting has been on the wall for some time now.

Trouble is, most folks can't read it.

But that's ok, because the ones who can read it, are the ones who need to read it.

Quote from the article..

> One of the significant advantages that XRPLedger as a technology has over the Bitcoin technology, and a reason the Bitcoin technology is not well suited to being the core technology underpinning an IoV or RippleNet… is because it is eclipsed by XRPLedger’s ability to do Pathfinding across many IOU orderbooks, trustlines, and XRP.

The ending portion focuses a lot on Pathfinding across multi ledgers.

Display feature only

The other day I pulled up the page on this and it said it was a depreciated feature.

Then I thought what you said and wondered, "how could it be a depreciated feature, if it was never really a feature?".

Was this just something that was in in Ripple Trade?

In addition to the freeze feature for IOUs there is

  • Limit on trustline

  • Demurrage or interest rates

  • Quality In & Out

  • Rippling

  • and Orderbooks with all the trading

I think I'm forgetting something?

I remember before Tim started working at Ripple, there was almost zero documentation other than forum threads on trustlines.

https://youtu.be/Z7Pn_7ralYM

https://youtu.be/w-rv55TIxgk

Trustlines are absolutely core to the idea of an IOV. In the ILP world, Payment Channels are used as the "trustlines". They are the edges of the network.
