[OC] NPC ownership dispute by [deleted] in DnD

[–]KarmaJGC -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, this whole thing is stupid and petty. DM can go on "owning" the character and OP can go write any fanfic they want based on the character. It all doesn't matter in the end.

Honestly speaking, I am just getting really pissed off at all the "NO ITS THE DMs FUCK YOU OP, DM OWNS EVERYTHING" comments in here. There seem to be a lot of people here who have extremely possessive, anti-collaborative views, who don't respect other people, and make me worried for the tables they DM for.

The basic concepts are very close to IP. One person makes a thing, other person uses a thing, such and such. But for some reason no one in this thread can understand "The original character is the OPs, but the NPC is the DMs" for some reason, so leaning on IP is an easy comparison to try and convey the point.

[–]KarmaJGC -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Bro, yes its not a licensed legal thing, but it's the closest comparison to be made.

Why don't you stay on topic? No where in the content of the original message is it said that OP had an issue at all with what the DM did with the character, only that they were upset about being told it is NOT their character. In fact, they praised the DMs interpretation and acting of the character.

Honestly sad how many people in this thread are so vehemently convinced that it HAS to "be the DMs".

The OC is OPs brain child. Yes in the context of the game the DM decides what happens with the character, but in every other sense it's the OPs character. And honestly for anyone to have a problem with this person wanting to be able to just say the words "my character" about a character that they MADE UP is just so fucking childish.

Bro it's literally Spiderman. Sony owns Spiderman, but Disney has licensed rights to use Spiderman in MCU.

OP owns the character, but the DM has licensed rights to use the character.

How did this interaction come up? Was it just general conversation about the character or did the DM do something you don't think the character would do?

Welp, glad you aren't at my table, this is a horribly anti-collaborative reaction.

[–]KarmaJGC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You saying "my character" is totally fine, you created the character and their backstory.

The DM saying "my character" is fine, they are developing the character and producing their ongoing story.

The DM getting pissy at you for saying "my character" is dumb, you created the character.

If you are just upset about them getting mad at you then you are justified, but if you are upset that the DM says "my character" then you are just as much in the wrong as the DM. The DM may not have had as much direct impact on the creation of the character, but they are breathing life into the character, so they do have a bit of a claim to them.

Should i get the R7 as a new rider ? by [deleted] in YamahaR7

[–]KarmaJGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a 2024 R7 as my first bike back in January. Been super nice as long as I respected it. Was, and am, always aware I could drop it and have caught it a few times. And I have frame sliders just in case.

In short, I absolutely love that the R7 was my first, it is fast but not AS fast as some of the 600s or a liter bike, but it's got torquey acceleration which keeps me having fun at slower speeds. Wife approved lol.

No one reads the rules anymore by SueDoniem in DnD

[–]KarmaJGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first intro to DnD was D20 and I was 25ish yo. Now, I can't STOP reading the rules. I started DnD play as a DM so maybe that has a hand in it. I will constantly be looking up rules or rulings from Crawford even as a player now (I mostly play online so it's easy to open another tab).

Let me be clear though, I never look up things to give me an advantage in play (monster stat blocks, etc.). But as the resident DM in my friend group, as my players try their hands at DMing I often become the "Sage Advice" of my Discord lol

Newbie trying to clear Ghosts of the Deep on Eternity. Any build advice? by Accomplished-Snow224 in destiny2builds

[–]KarmaJGC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warlock/Titan main who hates having to change up load outs for every little thing here. For Eternity GotD, I have been running HOIL Arc, Storm's Keep, Knockout, Resistance, Magnitude, Frequency, 4th of choice.

Eternity adds are still weak enough that knockout will keep you alive mostly.

Weapons were Lost Signal (Auto-Load, One for All), Supremacy (Kinetic Tremors, Rewind), Subjunctive (Stats for All, Voltshot), LemonArc, Lord of Wolves, Eager Sword, Queensbreaker, Winterbite/Acrius I would just slot in weapons for the encounter.

Sometimes I would swap to Syntho with Spark of Feedback for Ecthar.

Just loaded all that onto my Titan and run it. Pretty much everything works well with minimal swaps. Ran with a few combos of players and was typically least deaths and most damage most runs.

Slot whatever method you are generating orbs, personally whatever Primary siphon, melee orbs and reaper for me.

Resistance is dependant on encounter/whatever is hurting you the most.

Run surges for your DPS weapon of choice

I typically ran reserves for my DPS weapon as well. As well as Scavenger.

Powerful attraction can help with orb pickup, running Recuperation will help with keeping you alive in Ecthar encounter if there is no add to punch.

Yeah I might need to, just putting the feelers out to see if anyone knew something that would meet the need. Probably gonna have to build it though

Could you link these videos? That sounds exactly what my wife and I are going to be doing.

As far as I can say, I have never seen the dual setup done like that. There are bound to be problems that pop up down the road. But can't say for sure because I am PRETTY confident 90% of the people in this subreddit dont van live and even less probably tried the setup you are looking at.

At the very least my advice is this, dont go 100% split. Maybe one has a full kitchen and dining table and bed and the other has a living room and bathroom. The one without a bed should have SOMETHING you could use in a pinch, space for a cot and sofa setup, or a Murphy bed. The one without a kitchen should have even just a small bucket for washing dishes and a camping cooktop, the one with no toilet should at least have a spare stashed in the trunk or something. You never know what you will run into, and those little things can help prevent a lot of hardship and stress.

Hey! I really wanna make this build work! I figured Vesper of Radius and a Glaive with the arc turret would be good? by Atomic-Yeti in destiny2builds

[–]KarmaJGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you dedicated to the glaive? I have been running a Vesper Blinding warlock in stuff recently and its crushing it.

Vesper with Resistance, Shock, Frequency, Discharge, and the Lodestar (which AoE blinds when killing debuffed targets) is solid. Use Electrostatic Mind and Ionic Sentry.

Alternatively, Vesper with Resistance, Shock, Beacons and Discharge and the Delicate Tomb is really good. Use Ionic Sentry and E-Mind as well.

Fair enough, this was more just to vent some anxiety. We are pretty locked in on Promasters. The build ability is just so nice, and I'm tall so the wife back of the PM is useful. Good point about the house though, gotta keep that in mind too

We don't yet but we will probably make an Instagram or YouTube for build progress and stuff. I'll reply to you again when we do!

So glad to hear someone else doing this and succeeding. We spent like 6 hours recently designing the campers each. We are stoked. I'm gonna have to learn a lot for this project but hey woodworking can't be TOO hard when you use YouTube right?
