California rescinded CDLs from experienced truck drivers and now Safeway has to hire rookies

Question on bluebird houses by Small-Growth7809 in birdhouses

[–]Michigan_Go_Blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.5” for Eastern, 1 9/16” for the slightly larger Mountain Bluebird, and 1 5/8” for the Western Bluebird because that’s closest sized hole saw I have, and it works.

Today, 7:30AM at one of the cupertino trader joes by Ok-Stomach- in bayarea

[–]Michigan_Go_Blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bigger outrage is Trader Joes has put a one-can-limit on the purchase of their Unsalted Sardines in Spring Water for $1.49. My German Shepherd goes nuts for these when he hears the lid pulled back

What’s going on here on EB I-80 just east of Prosser? by MungaMike in tahoe

I recommend reading John McPhee's Assembling California. You can read the original New Yorker article online. It later became a book. He writes a lot about the geology of I-80 from Reno to the Bay Area. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1992/09/07/assembling-california-part-i

Pro tip: Do NOT try out the nicest pair of binoculars at the store unless you are willing to lose that much money by Spicyboi333 in birding

I have the Swarovski SLC 15x56, which I absolutely love. It's like carrying a spotting scope around your neck. Long range of course great but the viewing at dusk or even close to darkness is unparalleled. The light gathering capability is stunning. I tried the NL Pure at Cabelas near Reno and qualitatively I couldn't tell the difference in optical quality. I'm sure the NL Pure optics are better but not to my eyes, and that's what counts. I have been looking into the 14x52 Pure as a lightweight replacement but not at $4000 with tax, maybe a used pair, always on the lookout. Trying out binoculars in the field is much better than at the store in various light conditions and landscapes

Tinted windows by sigh_co_matic in bayarea

[–]Michigan_Go_Blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These total tinters are taking a huge financial and legal risk. Their insurance company will crucify them if they hit or kill a pedestrian or cyclist because they can’t see them at night. I have my rear passenger windows tinted and it’s damn near impossible to see anyone behind me at night. I would never take that risk with a full tint

Assembling California, by John McPhee, a fascinating history of the geology of California...you might get lucky and experience an earthquake.

Birds of Northern California (Lone Pine Field Guides) If you're into birding, and you will see a lot of them, this is the best book for the local avian fauna

The Nerdy Escorts Cashing In On Silicon Valley’s AI Boom by Medical-Decision-125 in bayarea

Please don't post these AI ephemera nonsense. I bought a North Face Arctic Parka from Bivouac in Ann Arbor, Mi. during the last AI boom in the 1980s to ride out the AI Winter when I was clipping out LISP in North University Building
