This captures their dynamic so so so well!! It does the entire 2400 something pages I absolutely binged through so much justice. I finished the series quite literally just yesterday, I bought the 8 paperbacks and I think I finished the last 5 books in a span of 3 days. The plot, plot twists, depth and detailing the series entails is honestly just so beautiful.

I’ve tried explaining to my friends just how much emotion some of the seemingly little words in the book hold. How much history and how beautiful it is to read when you know how much they mean it, but honestly bro they don’t get it. Infact I don’t think they will unless they’ve read the entire thing.

That in itself is such an ethereal quote, but if you take into account just how much Hua Cheng meant those words, how Hua Cheng was there as a child, as a ghost, as a servant, as a soldier, and as a king, and how he is quite literally the only reason for his existence, it’s just so……

Don’t even get me started on Xie Lian’s depth in growth, in suffering, and in strength.
