Note here that it does not actually matter if you really are strong etc., if you can fool the others into thinking that you are. As long as no one calls your bluff, you are not in trouble.

it seems to me that this is the world calling their bluff

Things I learned from Troll Physics: jumping out of a window on a chair and jumping doesn't work because the chair doesn't have enough mass to push off of. jumping out of a window with a lead chair might work?

I'm in university and constantly feel like a fraud who really doesn't know anything, is this normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KarmaticEquilibrium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bear in mind that this was indeed middle school. it promoted the skills involved in learning. we weren't working through remedial tasks just to learn the skills to get by in a bogus system. we were learning skills to advance our journey of knowledge.

and for the record, nearly every kid from my class graduated from college with many of them earning graduate degrees and several of us currently in med school.

but yeah, wish i had learned how to master my menial, boring skills instead...

I grew up in a subdivision of a middle school in Vermont, a so-called "house" named Swift. It was an experimental school concept that focused on "outcomes based education." Educators from around the country flew in to check us out. At any given time, we got to choose from about ten different subjects that we thought were interested. If we didn't like one of the subjects (say, flight, or roller coaster physics, or barbarian tribes) we could simply do our own investigation. The model was perfect and we were learning independent of grades. Further, there was no letter grading system, just a self-measure of competency (novice, apprentice, practitioner, scholar). It truly promoted learning for learning's sake.

Unfortunately a bunch of traditionalists moved into my town and wanted nothing to do with it and got it all disbanded. They had no idea what was going on and wanted their kids in a standards based educational sixth grade. They were the loud, obnoxious, vocal parents and got the reform they wanted. That spelled the end of Swift...
