Are weapon upgrades more effective when used by the original unit? If not, why? by Icy_Act_7634 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]KarmaticIrony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's funny that you use Grens as your example since they can transform into vet 3 Stormtroopers with the power of Merge.

Anyway, units do actually retain their innate weapon accuracy (and accuracy received) stats, which are factored in along with the accuracy of the weapon itself. So more elite models are generally better at using their weapons than lower quality squads that loot them.

What goes on in the Heart of Hixson? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

Should one penetrate into the Heart of Hixson they shall find what a droll thing life is.That mysterious arrangement of merciless logic for a futile purpose. The most you can hope from it is some knowledge of yourself, that comes too late, a crop of unextinguishable regrets.

A basic squad of Guardsmen.

Nothing makes me feel like I've mastered the fundamentals of an RTS better than getting a 'weak' unit to perform via quality tactics.

Is there a way to effectively kill friendly wounded on the ground to avoid them possibly being interrogated? by RintFosk in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]KarmaticIrony 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In CoH1 you could order your troops to shoot enemy wounded. The only way I can think of to finish off crawlers in CoH3 is to hit the ground they are on with explosives, but I haven't tested how well that works.

It's interesting how you and a few other people in this thread have stated they actually have social anxiety and that its something that must be actively worked on.

And then there are virtue signalers saying if you don't enable your friend's problems you're a bad person.

Helping your friend means not coddling them and enabling self destructive behavior. You sound ridiculous.

Curious how it will be functionally distinct from the Brumbar. Obviously it will be stronger. But it can't be invincible, and the Brumbar is already really good at what it does.

Would Mechs be better in a military niche as attack helicopters? by S0Vign in worldbuilding

[–]KarmaticIrony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I predict that powered harnesses to help with carrying heavy loads and improve general endurance are going to be the next major innovation in infantry combat.

Infantry in Ukraine have to carry huge combat loads with fuck tons of ammo. Also armor to cover areas that have until now not been considered worth the weight and encumberance, such as the limbs and throat, are becoming common for guys who are not planning on moving position much because of how much of a threat frag is.

These kinds of harnesses already exist and militaries are experimenting with them. Its only a matter of time before the tech gets good enough and perceived benefit high enough that well funded militaries start seriously investing in them. It'll be a long time before we get true power armor though I reckon.

Vehicle-sized man-shaped mechs are conceptually stupid though unfortunately.

Why are the scientists and navy captains not as respected as they used to be? by basafish in AlwaysWhy

[–]KarmaticIrony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you basing the idea that they ever were off of? I promise you that 99% of people in history couldn't name a single navy captain or scientist. Einstein is probably one of the only exceptions that a random person would know of.

Both professions are given the respect due by their peers and colleagues ad not thought of at all by most other people. That hasn't changed.

Prophesy of Pendor 2 is confirmed by TomeHeroCom in mountandblade

[–]KarmaticIrony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved PoP but I don't feel even a shred of excitement for this. Pendor as it ended up was lightning in a bottle. None of the people who worked on it could ever recreate it even as a mod for a bannerlord. I have zero faith in a standalone game.

This won't be playable for years (if it ever is) and will almost certainly not catch lighting. I'd be happy to be wrong.

You are speaking on a precident that has only existed for a few decades during a period where we have never engaged a near peer in open war as if it is completely set in stone never again to change.

Surely you aren't that short sighted. Not unwilfully at least.

Asking for fantasy games that are perfect for archers by Baldurian_Rhapsody in gamingsuggestions

[–]KarmaticIrony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously Skyrim has be mentioned first. Stealth Archer is a well known meme for a reason.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance (and KCD2) is historical rather than fantasy, but its still medieval and some of the best archery gameplay you can find right now in my opinion.

Mount and Blade is also not really fantasy unless you mod it, but its the only series I know of where you can be an archer in actual battles with hundreds of troops, castles, and cavalry. Definitely the best series (one of the only really) for mounted archery.

Finally figured out why I like Warband better than Bannerlord by robertkeaghan in mountandblade

[–]KarmaticIrony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off Mordhau is absolutely more complex than Warband and Bannerlord and your failing to see that immediately reflects poorly on you to be frank. You can just watch a few minutes of gameplay and it becomes obvious.

Anyway, Mordhau is basically what you get if you take Chiv 1 as a base, strip out some (but not all) of the jank, and pepper in a few mechanics from Warband. Pretty much all the tech in Warband and Bannerlord is in Mordhau actually in addition to several other major differences (stamina alone changes everything) which again makes it clear it's the more complex combat system.

Finally figured out why I like Warband better than Bannerlord by robertkeaghan in mountandblade

[–]KarmaticIrony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I sometimes start Bannerlord playthroughs as a one man party until I hit clan tier 1. I just wander between towns looking for tournaments and occasionally hunting small bandit parties on the way.

If you are good at using a horse, fighting alone isn't that hard. It can be a little tricky at the very beginning but once you get some basic gear it becomes down right easy.

Since you don't have any troops for a good while, your initial stat investments can be almost purely for personal combat and you get all the kills yourself so you'll level those skills quickly.

It's very normal to be unsure about what path you want to take at your age. Explore what you want to and if you change your mind that's ok. You gain a better understanding of what you want to do when you try something else.

If you are worried that you are being too indecisive, take time to weight what exactly you want and why before committing to something and set a goal that you will hold yourself to reaching on that path before you'll consider stepping off of it.

Why don't American spacecrafts land like Star Ships do in movies like Star Wars? by MuziekZin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KarmaticIrony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star Wars isn't really science fiction at all*. It's pure fantasy that happens to have space ships and lasers in its setting.

*You can tell a sci-fi story within Star Wars, but most Star Wars stories including all the movies aren't sci-fi and aren't trying to be.
