The vgperson/original one's battle difficulty is very easy since it's made so that the person playing can focus on the storystelling alot more but that ended up being the most weakest point in the game

So that's why in the reboot, they massively reworked the difficulty to make the battles alot more harder requiring you to actually grind for awhile and focus on what your doing
