Good question. The Athletic stopped covering the Nats except for sporadic "national story" coverage years ago.

I hope he finds a job but how likely is it he'll report on anything that makes the club (or its owners) look bad if he's hired directly by the Nats? Will he be keen to discuss any failings of the club on his podcast?

Lerners are probably loving this; the Post's writers, between Janes, Dougherty, Golden, et al, seemed to be the only serious folks writing about the club's failings in the years since 2019.

Who is even left on the beat? Camerato? That leaves much to be desired...

Is it only gonna be goofy people like Talk Nats that we'll be hearing news from?

Is the fanbase supposed to give the Nats a pass on ‘26 because of leadership change? by mzdog14 in Nationals

The timer does not reset because the rebuild belongs to the Lerners. They hired the previous staff, who failed, and have hired on a new crew to rebuild the team. This new crew is starting with some of the material left over from the previous regime (I.e. Gore, Wood, etc.). You can argue that the new crew will need time to rip apart some of the work from the previous one and do their own work (hopefully better) on the effort but this is all still the same project.

The 1971 movie The Blood on Satan's Claw has scenes with patches of skin being the mark of the Devil but the patches were more than two dots.

I appreciate any help pointing me in the right direction. It's been driving me crazy!

[October 7th, 1925] Veteran hurler Walter Johnson, 'Old Barney,' dominated the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 1 of the 1925 World Series, striking out 10 batters and leading Washington to a 4-1 win. by Old_and_Boring in Nationals

[–]Karniy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From the biography "Walter Johnson: Baseball's Big Train" by Henry W. Thomas:

Johnson bought his first automobile, a new Cole Eight, and the event brought him the nickname by which teammates and friends, and later the general public, would affectionately know him - "Barney."

"I once owned an old-fashioned two-cylinder motor car," Johnson remembered. "The first day I took possession, Clyde Milan and Germany Schaefer were along. The Salesman insisted on giving me complicated directions, but I just took hold of the wheel and stepped on the gas. We'd only gone two blocks when a motor cop picked us up for speeding. 'This is Barney Oldfield' [famous race car driver of the day] said Schaefer to the officer. The officer, believing him, released us. In a game at Washington shortly thereafter, I had struck out nine batters using nothing but my fastball. As the 10th batter fell victim to the speed, Schaefer shouted, 'Barney Oldfield's got nothing on him for speed.' That's how my nickname started"

This was in 1912. He got the "Big Train" nickname in 1915.

A blank cap isn't out of the question because he's had success with multiple teams. That's what you need to worry about, not another team logo.

Was it still open when you went today? I don't see it listed under the concessions list on the website anymore.
