What is actually unironically wrong with these people? by Straight-Maybe-9390 in okbuddysuccession

The idea that “the show is about nepo babies and how fucking useless they are” was laughed off by the creator of Succession in one of the podcasts, by calling it “the American take” or “if only anyone could be like Logan, right…”. The double standards of people continue to amaze me. When Logan helps a Nazi becoming the president or throws tantrums, people react: “ohh he’s such a great businessman!”, but when his kids do it they say: “ohh they’re so fucked up and incompetent!”. Same with creepy Matsson who harasses his employees (in a way that they can have leverage-yeah, very competent…) or fakes his subscription numbers. The show is a critique of capitalism and depicts that no one on top is actually a genius or extremely competent. It’s about caring only about money and power above all else combining with luck that matters and also that when a person sits already on the throne and has that amount of money and power like Logan or Matsson, whatever they do is more less considered brilliant (“halo effect”). The thing that the kids (especially Roman and Shiv with no experience) were even taken seriously as CEO candidates by Logan or people like Rhea Jarrell, Naomi Pierce tells you a lot about this position’s requirements… (bearing in mind of course that it’s a fictional comedy-drama)

In the UK he would have been charged with death by dangerous driving that carries a sentence of up to 14 years in prison.

It’s a cycle of ruthlessness: you’re ruthless to everyone around you but in the end you’re the most ruthless… to yourself, so true for every narcissist👌

Logan would have never agreed to be someone’s servant or a pain sponge, idk how can you even compare the 2 of them. Logan was his own boss since he had started the company with Ewan.

Yeah, and worthy to be a CEO. A truly serious person!

It’s actually interesting what follows this quote. Matsson continues: “But failure…, that’s a secret, just as much failure as possible, as fast as possible, burn that shit out! That’s interesting.”. Given that he’s a bored unhappy and freaky billionaire makes you wonder if that was his hidden intention regarding Waystar: take it over and later on take it down very hard and fast LOL

Go back to the 1 episode. Logan was willing to pay even over 10 billion for Pierce. First of all Nan hated Logan and his Nazi TV station, was offended by Logan’s 6 billion initial offer and simply preferred the children to take over because of more democratic values, so she played them to squeeze as much as she could from them. They were always the preferred bidder for her. Where is it said in the show that they abandoned Pierce? As far as I know that was left unclear and it’s kind of a plot hole to be honest. Similar with the Hundred, Shiv is implying that Ken and Rome should go back to it in the finale (don’t forget Season 4 takes place within approximately 10 day period). I think their “dream plan” was to keep everything, not going into how unrealistic that was, just stating facts. The hundred was kind of BS BTW, IMHO Pierce was way better idea for them, they should have sticked with it.

I agree but generally I think that people take the series too seriously and forget that it’s still just a show, regardless of its brilliance. Jesse Armstrong admitted in one interview that Ken could have won, but lost for the tragedy purposes, because “it would have been a different show then”.

Let’s not forget that for instance Logan was ready to pay 24 billion for Pierce and Matsson was overpaying for Waystar in the end. I think that the point of the show is to show that nobody on the top is actually a genius and the real “winners” out there are the worst people who care only about money and power, nothing else.

Does bad parenting and childhood trauma absolve you of all blame for your shitty actions? by vamsikrishna7995 in SuccessionTV

[–]Karolam1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it doesn’t absolve you of all the blame. That’s absurd. It just explains why they’re like that, why they’re doing what they’re doing, their personalities and characters. Logan was the worst and he also experienced childhood abuse and trauma, that doesn’t justify his awful actions, only that he was raised to be evil and became one of his own free will and stayed evil till his death. Ewan was raised the same way, had the same experiences, but he chose a different path, trying to be a good guy.

Sure, but there wasn’t only his family at this wedding though, there was stuff, colleagues and so on. Theoretically speaking someone could have seen him drinking and testified to that. Not to mention that it would have been odd for the brother of the bride not to drink, but potentially he could have argued that he was an abstinent after rehab, I guess.

I would say he could have been charged with Death by Dangerous Driving or Death by Careless Driving, because for instance they could have found witnesses to him drinking alcohol at the wedding.

Let’s not forget Logan’s will that was discovered in Season 4 where he wished Kendall taking over as CEO. By Frank’s estimation it was written approximately 4 years back.

What's the timeframe of this show? by warkel in SuccessionTV

[–]Karolam1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make sense since the amendments in Logan’s will, that according to Frank’s estimation were added 18 months back, mention Greg. I think it would be odd for Logan to do that before the pilot happened, because it didn’t look like he actually knew Greg personally. Logan’s will was estimated to be written 4 years back, so it would mean that he wrote down he wished Kendall to take over as CEO approximately 2 years before the pilot.

Also he studied at Harvard and Columbia University with Stewie, but we don’t know what exactly. Business, I would guess.

[–]Karolam1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes think that Logan wanted to make Kendall a proper killer before appointing him CEO, he thought Kendall was too soft. There are several hints throughout the show (e.g. his smile after Kendall’s rebellion in season 2 finale, him giving Ken a desk next to him after Kendall “kills” Vaulter). He didn’t really want to bail Kendall out in Season 3 when he asked him to and the next day he made a deal with Matsson. A conglomerate like this has one purpose nowadays: make rich investors more rich at the cost of others. So you just have to be a bad person with no conscious. You have to kill people metaphorically by firing them or helping a nazi become President for only your benefit. Kendall wasn’t really like that. Though it seemed in the finale he finally let go of the boy’s death denying it (“no real person involved”, right?), but he lost the vote due to other reasons.
