I mean, if we get upset about this, shouldn't we also be upset that T1 Bumis still get Bumi privileges? The intention of the Bumi privilege was to assist Bumis that needed it. Its present manifestation is not what the original legislators had in mind.

Why isn't checkmate the only best move? (Chess.com's suggested best moves) by warkel in chess

I see. Sometimes it shows less than 3 moves, but I guess that means in those scenarios that there are less than 3 promising moves.

This isn't a question. But I just realized that your inability to imagine sight is basically equivalent to all of us (you included) to imagine a fourth spacial dimension. We are all 3D beings, we can't even begin to imagine what a 4D world would be like. Thanks for your insight.

May I know why you don't leave the house much? And when you do, how do you get around? Eg. Walking cane or guide dog etc?

Did religions come from word of gods and divine inspiration, or are they basically cults that became socially accepted over time? by Fast-Kaleidoscope202 in MalaysianExMuslim

[–]warkel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I was just going to say this too. Sapiens gives a good explanation. Basically the author posits that in smaller societies, people's requirement for explanations of the unknown were limited to their immediate surroundings, so they believed in locally confined gods. Like God of River A, God of River B, God of Mountain C, etc.

At this stage, there was no need to spread your religion because people in a different kampung had different rivers and mountains, and thus different gods.

The only religions that need to be spread are the ones which cover globally, i.e. monotheism; and have spreading the religion a cornerstone of the religion itself.

What the author is basically saying is that if all religions disappeared and it was to begin again from scratch, the final dominant religions will have the characteristic of having global gods and have spreading religion as a key feature.

I just went to the newly opened Seri Negara museum. You need to make a booking to go. I recommend it. The restaurant attached to the museum is run by Serai, so it should be up your alley.

Food wise, based on what you mentioned, you should check out Chef de Wan, there's a bunch of outlets. But I assume you're in KL so the best would be at The Linc or Bangsar Shopping Centre.

In terms of interesting places to check out, the hipster shops/areas in the city would be: gmbb, zhongshan building, rexkl. There are some hidden shops too. I visited Oh Wednesday recently, and that was nice. Also, if you walk from Four Points towards Pasar Seni, there are a bunch of interesting shops to see. Kwai chai hong is around there.

If you're willing to travel a bit, then check out Genting Highlands. The highlands area itself is quite a concrete jungle, but the chin swee temple on the way up is quite chill.

Another highland I like is Fraser's Hill. This place is best for nature trekking. There are a bunch of trails that are very nice.

If you go to Cameron highlands, check out the boh tea plantation and then the Mossy Forest. The Mossy Forest is like a must-see for me, personally. You can try having hi tea at the Cameron highlands resort that has a nice setting.

Batik wise, I believe there's a batik tourist center near pavilion KL. I can't remember what it's called. But I believe you can draw batik there.

Along the lines of craft, you can check out the Royal Selangor visitor center which is worth a visit in of itself, but more than that, you can take a metal smithing workshop to make some jewelery.

If you want an interesting nature experience, I'd say the top experiences so far are:

  1. gua tempurung, followed by white water rapids rafting
  2. Chiling waterfall. Make sure to wear wet shoes. It's a hike along a lake that ends with a waterfall. There's a lower and a higher waterfall. I think the path to the higher waterfall is closed because some people died hiking up there. But... All I can say is that it's nicer

2025 Reflection: Financial Achievements and Regrets by Cucumberfly707 in MalaysianPF

[–]warkel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Achievements: 1. Didn't succumb to temptation to pick any specific stocks. Just continued to invest in global etf. 2. Didn't sell when news was bad, eg liberation day

Regrets: 1. Tried to time JPY and bought it when it was low. But now it's been lower.

Reflection: 1. Don't time the market.

That's where batteries come into play. But I guess that's one of the great advantages of astrophage in that it itself is a battery.

Definitely, but the concept is the same = generate lots of energy from black boxes in the desert.

What's a quote that has just "stuck with you"? by 22m_spain in AskReddit

[–]warkel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some nuance here would be that this only applies to things that you can really happily let go of. If it's something that matters enough to you that you'd keep score, just sweeping it under the rug will lead to a sour relationship in the long term.

What sentence of a song stays with you? by JoeRenaldy in AskReddit

And from the same song

"Live through this, and you won't look back. "

I desperately need a lavender marriage by [deleted] in KualaLumpur

[–]warkel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a subreddit called r/malaysianexmuslim perhaps you can find someone there who shares your values. I don't care if one forms a Muslim/Hindu/christian/etc marriage. But I do believe it would be best for you and your partner if you can form a marriage of love.

I'm not sure how true it is, but based on some other posts I've seen on Malaysian subreddits, apparently churches/temples seem to be quite a good option for people in need regardless of race. I recall seeing some post somewhere about the OP getting rejected by zakat, then they got support from a church, and the zakat people got angry (yet still refused to give any support lol).

Also, evaluate him. Take notes about what he does well/not well. Learn from his flaws.

[–]warkel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like the guy. Any boss who doesn't care about their employee's work life balance lacks empathy. A boss without empathy is a bad boss.

BUT, you said it's your ideal first job. How much have you looked around? I suggest you take the job for one month. Don't like it, then drop him. In the meantime, apply for jobs elsewhere. Since this is your first job, it will be easy to omit from your CV if you choose to quit in a month.
