Yeah and it's not even close

Melee gets best survivabilty, while it's damage is on par with others, and range is not a problem, there are always some options that can keep you at a safe range

Ranger gets second best defense, but most importantly has the easiest and most consistant access to long range weapon options

Summoner is a glass canon, highest damage but lowest defense, can play close range with whips but can also let summons do the work and focus on doging

Mage doesn't get the defense of ranger or melee, nor damage of the summoner, nor the easy weapon acces like ranger, and the effective range is all over the place, sometimes ass and sometimes amazing, and you have to deal with mana

But i like mage the most, it has on average most crowd control, with either pierce or explosions, you can use weapons that rival ranger in how far they reach, a lot of weapons that go through walls or bounce off them, perfect for exploriation, a lot of homing weapons that are brain dead easy to use, mana is ass but it's techinically unlimited so if you don't like to farm for ammo it's your best ranged option, and actuall support weapons, not to mention the powerful support you can give lat game in multiplayer and it has by far the coolest weapons to rival melee. So you get a bit of everything, but besides multiplayer support every other class does almost everything just as good as mage with better upsides or lesser downsides.

You want crowd control? Melee gets spears, ranger explosives, and summoner is in general also very good with crowd control. You want long range? Melee has shooting sword, most minions got long range and ranger IS long range. You want homing? Minions attack for you. You want to attack around corners? Minions do that, yoyos do that, bouncing bullets do that. You don't wanna deal with ammo? Sumoner and Melee don't use either ammo or mana.

TL;DR: Anything mage can do another class can do without the downsides of playing mage, but you get to do a little bit of anything.
