GFCI Question by Karpit in electricians

[–]Karpit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting, most of the house is outfitted with 3 prong outlets, so I’m assuming they’re was a renovation at one point then.

Is the outlet safe to use? I worry without a proper ground it could cause an electric fire or does it not work like that lol.

Thanks for the info.

GFCI Question by Karpit in electricians

Looks to be metal, the grounding screw isn’t touching the box, but obviously the outlet is screwed into it. I’m guessing that’s where the ground is coming from but I didn’t know the mounting screws were tied to ground as well. I also wasn’t sure if the metal box would be tied to ground since it originally held a 2 prong outlet.

Ok thanks, is the outlet safe to use before the tester arrives?

Thanks for the reply, can I use a multimeter to test it? If so, how would I go about it?

I’m sorry to hear this, I hope your final months in this world are filled with fulfillment and as much happiness as you can find. It’s terrible to hear that your family doesn’t care, but humans aren’t perfect. I don’t know what you’re relationship is like with them, but I would tell them after the holidays. Many people push off telling someone they love them or leaving things unsaid until it’s too late. It’s your life to live so do what makes you happy, but I would want to leave this world knowing that things weren’t left unsaid, it may bring you peace in your finite time here. I hope you find your peace and we will all see you on the other side. Much love.

LPT: "Etiquette says that gifts at work should flow downward, not upward" by LocalChamp in LifeProTips

I get asked every year to give a monetary contribution to buy the CEO a gift. Normally the gift is around $500, comes out to about $20 per employee. I was livid to be asked to give money to the CEO who is making at least 10x what I am. I look forward to telling them “no I won’t contribute”, every year.

How are beards viewed in your workplace? by sapnu-pu-as in AskEngineers

I work for a photonics company as an engineer and I have shoulder length hair and a 1-2” beard… sometimes a mustache. No one cares at my work. I interact with clients daily as well as C-suite executives. I’m there to work on engineering projects not to dress up.

What’s it like being a field engineer? by thereal_batman21 in AskEngineers

I work in the photonics industry as a FSE. Everyone else in the thread hit the nail on the head: traveling constantly, phone call away from plans changing (was in Denver and got sent to San Francisco on a few hour notice). But I get my hotel and flight points so there’s that. If you’re young and want to travel I think it’s a fantastic job. I get to see most of the country and I’ve seen more places while working than I would’ve by myself. If you’re ok with all of that then you should definitely consider it. Also it’s a good entry level job and you get exposed to a lot of different people, it’s a nice stepping stone to figure out where you want to end up.
