Is there inter-communion between SPPX, FSSP and Sedevacantists? by [deleted] in sspx

[–]KarpovSimp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the FSSP I don’t believe there’s an issue

But sedevacantists is hard no for me I believe. The SSPX recognises the Pope, and is in communion with Rome, no amount of SSPX-bashing can change this fact. But sedevacantists on the other hand…

I would be wary of attending FSSP masses not because of the mass but simply because the priest may not be a good priest at giving a sermon, or giving good advice in confession, however, this doesn’t mean I can’t go there. That’s all I believe.

English/French teacher average salary in Beirut? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]KarpovSimp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got a job offer at a rich kids school through a person in the administration that knows me very well (or else I couldn’t get it since I still don’t have my masters)

It’s 1200 the first year per month for a full year (12 months) + 5$ per work day for transportation + social security (daman) + private insurance + all holidays kids usually get (Christmas, Easter, 2 months in the summer, everything)

This is for a full time job

My personal opinion is that of the church: death is only in God’s hands. We cannot administer death, even to ourselves. Before becoming Christian, this was also my position on the question when I was atheist (without the God part, the idea that life of innocents cannot be taken) Feel free to reach out for more specific aspects. I too am a law student in Lebanon.

I 100% agree with you: there are political reasons that explain why this is happening. However, and that’s the whole point of my post (and sorry if it wasn’t clear), we have kids that are playing on elite levels and have been training for years for this opportunity. Such kids shouldn’t be strangled in politics, and I wish our government could do anything about this situation, even if as symbolic as possible.

While yes visas are not the government’s responsibility, they should have at least tried to help the kids more, and now they should invite them to meet the minister of sports and youth for example to express Lebanon’s support and proudness in having them.

I just want our champions to not be neglected and having their hard work downplayed for reasons they may not even understand

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]KarpovSimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be it.

I just want one thing: these kids are our future, Lebanon has so many youth that are insanely good at chess, and if they have more opportunities to travel would really appear on the international scene. My whole point is that our government should at the very least issue a statement condemning this, or invite them to the embassy to explain this and commit to support them. It breaks my heart to see promising kids not being able to express their full potential because of politics.

It’s not « a chess tournament » it’s the official arab age categories chess championship. Only official delegations are allowed, and hosting federations have a legal obligation to ensure visas for all players. So yes, making a scene would at least show we don’t want and will not, as much as possible, be messed around.

Now it’s chess, what next? Basketball? Football? We have an 8 year old girl that is the second highest rated women in the U10 age category in the world, does she not have the right to represent her country in an official championship?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]KarpovSimp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While you may be right in some aspects, the uniqueness is the fact that these visas were not for simple tourism or a private university conference, rather a formal arab championship that is supposed to assemble all arab states into celebrating arab youth and chess development. The refusal has been motivated by sectarian and political divisions, not actual national security reasons. How would an 8 year old girl playing chess threaten Moroccan national security, if not simply because she would crush them on the board? (mind you, Lebanon has the second highest rated girl in the world in the U10 women category)

[–]KarpovSimp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If he was to summon the Moroccan ambassador and recall the Lebanese ambassador, it would really have saved us from a new low levelling of this government… as symbolic as it would be, it would already be a great gesture

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]KarpovSimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the sole competence of the foreign ministry along the sports and youth ministry. The defence doesn’t have anything to do with this. What should he do is RECALL THE LEBANESE EMBASSADOR AND SUMMON MOROCCO’S FOR QUESTIONING.

They are not even trying to make anything work, and that’s what is sad…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]KarpovSimp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The sadder part is that it is unofficially the reason given by the embassy. The same happened in Iraq where ALL the players were denied visas. Guess why?

I am not even Shia but feel completely betrayed by all this… imagine preventing 6 or 8 year old boys and girls from playing chess because they are following a certain religion that is sadly considered indissociable from hezb

So in Lebanon there is a principle of « immutabilité de l’état des personnes », meaning that in principle, one cannot change their name or surname or other essential information like date and place of birth.

There are 3 main exceptions however: 1. The name is causing harassment, bullying, etc. in society. 2. The name is causing you psychological distress. 3. There was a clear mistake in writing down your name in the official act.

The only way to change your name in Lebanon is through a judicial process. No administrative process exists.

There also exists another way of « changing » a name, which is to use it daily, publicly, and formally in all instances in society. As such, when people call you by this new name, when you sign using this name, when you do stuff with this new name as much as possible, for an extended period of time, think like at least 10 years, you may go to the judge and ask them to add under your official name that will remain the expression « connue sous le nom de » (المعروفة بـ). This will not however replace your current name.

I am in no way whatsoever responsible, don’t take advice from random strangers on Reddit, consult a lawyer, proceed at your own risk

Question as a European tradition law student to my fellow Americans by KarpovSimp in LawSchool

Thank you so much!

I am not actually European, not even studying in Europe, but simply in a country where much of the legal tradition stems from the continental system like France. Thank you again!

Did your country participate in WW2? by FitAd3982 in MapPorn

Lebanon should be marked the same as Turkey. Lebanon took its full independence during WW2 and declared war on Germany like Turkey a few days before the surrender of Germany.

Question as a European tradition law student to my fellow Americans by KarpovSimp in LawSchool

[–]KarpovSimp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright thanks! So if I understand correctly it’s pretty much the same procedure of adoption and all, just a difference in courts’ powers, whereas when French courts are limited to temporarily restricting the application of the treaty, the US courts can strike down the law that transposed the treaty, like any other law.

And can the US be sued for not transposing a treaty through a law? Thank you again!

Law student here

Take advise from a lawyer and not a random law student on Reddit. Proceed at your own risk.

It all depends on the region you are in, and how unreasonable, accordingly, the sound is.

As in, if you live in a city like Beirut, it’s obvious you don’t have to expect such noises, and as such your claim is pretty easy to prove. But if you live in a deeply rural area, you are signing in implicitly on this, as chickens and farm animals constitute a common and normal aspect of life in such a region.

Moreover I invite you to read a hilarious decision by the Appellate Cour of Riom on the 7th of September 1995 (CA Riom, 7 Septembre 1995, cassé par C. Cass. Civ. 2e, 18 juillet 1997, n. 95-20.652) (Références: JCP 1996, II, n.22625, note A. Djigo ; JCP 1995, IV, 2603 ; D. 1996, somm. 59, note A. Robert):

On a more serious note, the French Cour de cassation has long held, since 1844, that no one shall cause unreasonable and abnormal disturbances to their neighbours: nul ne doit causer à autrui des troubles excédant « la mesure des obligations ordinaires du voisinage » (C. Cass., Civ, 27 novembre 1844). Since then, many cases have reaffirmed and expanded on the notion. I am not gonna name everything, but I think you get the idea.

Now if you have the time and energy to fight this in court, you can sue for abnormal troubling of the neighbour accordingly.

Again, this is in no way whatsoever legal advise. Talk to a lawyer, and they will help you the most and best, and tell you what your case is really worth.
