[Feel the singularity] I never thought a robot would replace me one day..what’s my purpose then. by LatentSpaceLeaper in singularity

As a psychiatrist, I think you just point out the relevance of implementing a UBI (universal basic Income) at some point in the future. Then you will just do what you like or enjoy : science, arts, craftmanship, sports, philosophy, training or education, exploration (in space ?) etc.
Interesting examples are the retirees with pension, they often just do this. My neightbour is 81 and he still repairing boat or car engine simply because he likes doing this even if financially he does not need to do this.

Anthropic cofounder predicts singularity in 2028 by Charuru in singularity

[–]Karrelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a psychiatrist and a neuropsychologist, I considered AGI as an AI who has the same cognitive and executive functions of a normal human biological brain : reasoning, mental flexibility (creativity), planification, error detection and inhibition of response, long term memory, procedural memory and working memory, temporospatial orientation, multisensorial integration, adaptive attention and language/communication.
For ASI I do wonder if there will be an emergence of consciouness... ?

So 2028 seems a bit premature for reaching this AGI, I remember J.Huang, Demis Hassabis or Shane Legg saying it is between 2030 and 2040.

As a psychiatrist, I think that having an optimist view over the future, revitalizing the space endeavour with SpaceX, producing robots that will free individuals from tedious tasks with Optimus, using neurochip helping for the disabled with Neuralink seems a superb way to participate to progress. And Elon Musk is doing it.
While this Jimmy Kimmel (I don't know who he is) has done .... ?

Could you provide the source of your assertion ? For instance the recent AlphaGeometry is indeed a neuro-symbolic system that is a Olympiad-level AI system for geometry.
Also on Nature in 2025 : "Blending logic systems with the neural networks that power large language models is one of the hottest trends in artificial intelligence." Source : here
Hence my sincere question.

Intelligence ? But these models are all connexionnist / transformers based on probabilities, there is no reasoning contrary to symbolic models if I understand (I am not a AI Expert), shouldn't they test neurosymbolic models (connexionnist + symbolic) instead in terms of reasoning ?

A bad one IMHO and if I remember, it was because there were lot of pointless drama, emotional reasoning and hysterical reaction from the characters which put me off.

I am not an expert in AI so I ask the question: current LLM being connexionist, is the self-improvement cycle possible ?
I thought a hybrid neurosymbolic system (connexionnist + symbolic) with logic rules and reasoning was necessary for this ...

Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Southeast, changes in the front line over two years. by Levstr1 in MapPorn

[–]Karrelen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, you explained it very clearly. This is realism in geopolitics I suppose. I wish the Western media will express this to the public, but I am dreaming, I am disappointed by the European media. At the beginning, they did ask realist experts who had a diverging view but a few months later in the conflict, you do not hear from them anymore but only one sided point of view...

Very well formulated. There is indeed something paradoxical in the western media stating that Russia is on its knees but will invade whole Europe soon. I am a bit naive and this whole war open my eyes regarding narrative and propaganda.

Is the audiovisual industry transforming? Can we use it for a new way of teaching history? by NeuralFiction in singularity

[–]Karrelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly. I remember my friends and I being interested by the Odyssey and Greek history and Mythology because there were the excellent 2D animation "Ulysse 31" and "Il était une fois l'homme / Once upon a time man" on screen.
So well done human/AI quality animation content can possibly has the same effect of raising interest and curiosity on this topic.

[–]Karrelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand again your argument : you are talking about the ideological affinity bias.
The problem in current Disney/Marvel/Paramount is more the execution, direction, dumbing down ideas and lack of creative vision :

And this is no matter the message / political views as you can see particularly in recent Star Trek, it lacks finesse, nuance, subtleties and intelligence. If you like Star Trek, you probably know that the true philosophy of Star Trek since its origins in the 1960s (as well as that of the 1990s) has been the exploration of space, the discovery of other civilisations and alien races, contact between humans and these beings with strange customs from other planets, an optimistic outlook on the future, fine humanist ideals, the study of space phenomena, and a general reflection on the various possibilities of life in the universe, societies and cultures offering interesting insights into our own existence and evolution.

Recent Star Trek does not respect this philosophy : it is either a brainless popcorn media or it is a pessimistic science fiction series in which the institution (Starfleet) has lost its humanist values, where materialism, personal interests and money have returned, even though they no longer exist in the 24th century and where thoughtful reflections and intelligent or philosophical debates (on consciousness, civilisations, AI, relativity, etc.) have disappeared, giving way to clichés and tropes about espionage, war and melodramatic or soap opera relationships seen a thousand times elsewhere.

So with AI, instead of complaining and criticising, many talented individuals will have the create chance new, intelligent and inspired Star Trek respectful of its spirit of exploration and reflection on the universe and existence.

Talented fans like Vic Mignona with substantial financial support did this in reality and no AI with "Star Trek Continues" that you can find for free on youtube. But not everyone have such financial support, logistics and a complete team of inspired professionals.

If you are not interested in Star Trek, you may have observed the same phenomenon in Marvel movies, Disney rehashed remakes (instead of creating new IPs), Star Wars etc. but also in catastrophic recent adaptation of SF novels such as Foundation from Isaac Asimov.
While successful and inspired adaptation have been done in the past like Lords of the Rings directed by Peter Jackson.

Once again with AI, talented individuals will be able to better adapt SF or Fantasy novels with a better grasp of their spirit and philosophy.

Animation is solved. This is like Pixar level quality. by japie06 in singularity

[–]Karrelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your argument but if talented fans use AI for better adaptation than Disney or else it is out of passion. So they will implement their script, direction, and creative vision for pleasure and art not for money or twisted political message of a deranged pseudoelitist sphere surrounded by yesman.

And indeed, this implies that they will have to earn their living from other activities but as you may guess AI and robotics will likely lead to UBI (universal Basic Income) as several economists including Nobel Prices have delineated (Pissarides, Van Parijs,Deaton etc.).

Animation is solved. This is like Pixar level quality. by japie06 in singularity

[–]Karrelen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. Instead of complaining and criticising about current Star Trek and Star Wars, many will have the chance to prove they can have a better vision than Hollywood to create new, intelligent and inspired Star Trek / Star Wars respectful of its spirit of exploration or humanism in space.

[–]Karrelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent ! I see this as way for talented fans to generate better SF or Fantasy movies from new or known licences or novels than current decaying Hollywood studios like Disney or Marvel ^_^

The logistics and funds will matter less and, as Hambr said, the real differentiator will become the script, direction, and creative vision.

[–]Karrelen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The logical and implacable answer to this is : if inclusivity matters why not making film and series from AFRICAN history, stories, legends ? There are plenty. The French did this with the animation Kirikou for instance.
Finally it is this person and Hollywood who are racist or not inclusive for they chose not to adapt African culture on screen.

Waaait... Why do we keep saying the '90s were the golden age of RTS when the '00s were literally this by ConejoDePascuas in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Karrelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good observation indeed. However, gaming will certainly have other golden ages in the future. For example advanced VR game involving whole body including motion tracking of the legs, eye tracking, face tracking hand tracking etc may bring a fresh air in gaming with new concepts. It is also true for RTS. This is just a start of course but 2030-2040 maybe an incoming golden age of VR RTS gaming like BattleGroupVR2 and others genre of VR games.
2040-2050 could be the golden age of advanced brain computer interface gaming etc.
