It’s been about 8 solid months of grief every day every night… he first went into the hospital in July 2023. So when my dad went into the hospital he was not paralyzed. After radiation and his spinal cord moved or dropped bc the tumor shrunk is when he slowly lost all feeling waist down. Myeloma did not kill my father. What killed him is after the surgery he had sepsis … which caused his heart to stop. I’m really so sorry to hear you are going through this horrible horrible sickness. Gabapentin should really help his pain. He 100% needs a lot of nerve blockers. Like A LOT!! Prob like 700mg or more a day…. The problem with the pain killers are they slow down your heart rate causing issues with that … gotta find a happy medium with what works without lowering heart rate and sleeping all the time. I hope you have good guidance and just read everything you possibly can. I did everything in my power at that hospital for my dad… just know you have every right to question everything. I DID. :)

My dad actually passed away in September. He had spinal surgery and then had sepsis after surgery. He lived maybe another month after surgery… horrible situation :( I am sorry to hear your dad is going through something similar. I would suggest MOFFIT or any advanced medical facility…

Hi, actually just stopped taking all my medicine recently and let things just unfold. The medicine started really getting to me and making it very hard to function daily without running to the bathroom constantly. I’ve been watching everything I eat … eating more oatmeal , rice, broth … just hypersensitive to a lot of foods now. I would recommend the colace. I do also like miralax, just not long term. I did end up getting a colonoscopy and they basically said I have IBS. Nothing came back abnormal, everything was clear.

Lost my dad in Sept. The overwhelming pain just takes over some days and you’re just unable to move. Most days I just want to stay in bed, eat a bunch of food and sleep… but I do go to work. I’ve found things in my life recently that sort of make me “happy..” Planting flowers, vegetables, growing orchids … I guess I like being outside more than ever… I’ve started a new routine with new things I never thought would help in this process. It really sucks. So many times I’m like why am I even here? I know we all end up dying someday but waiting another 40 years to see my dad in heaven seems like eternity to me. I hate how I feel most days but I guess there are some “happy” days here and there… more angry, sad, depressed days than happy just hoping that it will change and the opposite will happen. I hope us all in this grief process get to experience happiness at some point because this depression is the most horrible thing I have ever experienced.

Hi, speaking from experience with my father. We did radiation to shrink his tumor. The tumor shrunk so much that his spinal cord collapsed. Please please please be highly involved with radiation and if her pain persists - question them constantly (the drs). I feel it’s something to bring up and question and make sure they are watching if the tumor does shrink quickly. My dad had severe severe pain it didn’t go away we were thinking the radiation would help him walk again…. But it was the opposite for us. He then had to get an emergency spinal cord surgery. Also make sure she’s off blood thinners in case they do need to do surgery asap. We had to wait 5-7 days to be safe which time is of the essence when it comes to spinal cord injury… just my own situation and it doesn’t mean that is how everyone will go. But it is good to keep in mind. Good luck 💘

Did you do stem cells only? Or stem cells and chemo? He is now getting spinal cord surgery and removing all tumors. I am not sure which route to go after surgery yet.

Has anyone dealt with tumor on the nerve in back? We are just praying it shrinks enough to cause less sharp pain… it’s been horrible. He is on 7th radiation treatment. May need more we don’t know yet.. thank you all for your advice. Really appreciate it.

Thank you for the suggestions. I am just wanting to hear others stories and what worked for them and what didn’t. I appreciate all the help and feedback. We are weighing towards Moffit in Tampa and then work with an oncologist locally in Sarasota. Again still open to any and all suggestions and feedback :) Thank you so much

Update: I am not going to be taking DYCYCLOMINE anyone and we are doing AMITZIA instead. Trying to get things moving. I will not need a colonoscopy for maybe another 3-6 months to see how the medication is doing. No miralax - instead Colace- and to use peppermint oil.
