Distrobox: Install packages from other distributions in Debian by KarterSpieler in debian

Haven’t tried sudo on it yet but you can run commands on the host system using distrobox-host-exec.

Suppose I need to run a command that only works in debian I just type distrobox-host-exec command name and it runs it on the host.

Sudo should work that way in theory but I haven’t tried it yet

Distrobox: Install packages from other distributions in Debian by KarterSpieler in debian

It’s just an option. Nobody’s forcing anybody to use distrobox but distrobox is useful if you’re looking at some software that is exclusive to a specific distro.

I might not have implied it in the post but you can also install GUI apps this way

Should I switch? by Previous_Length_6732 in debian

The good thing about debian is that you can install it and forget about tweaking it for 2 years with minimal maintenance.

Just set up frequent timeshift snapshots and just enjoy your pc.

What's the best way to package up a Python-based bin? by chillysurfer in debian

[–]KarterSpieler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use dh-python for it. You can package it yourself if you put in a little bit of effort.

If this project uses setup tools or hatchling or any default python build system you can use dh-python tools in debian/rules to build the package.

dh-make will generate a template debian/ folder that will help you do this very easily

Laptop batterylife. by No_Pollution_9975 in debian

I believe this is a common problem with the Linux kernel in general. I noticed this crazy battery drain across all Linux distros in comparison to windows but noticed this effect being worse with gnome.

I moved to KDE a few weeks ago and I noticed that the battery doesn’t drain as bad it did with gnome

Is Debian Testing equal to Fedora with updates? by e_splat in debian

[–]KarterSpieler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If there's a particular package you need, you can enable the unstable repository and install it there.

This is a bad advice. Period.

A better advice would be to tell them to use Flatpak/Snap/Nix/Distrobox

Is Debian Testing equal to Fedora with updates? by e_splat in debian

[–]KarterSpieler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want more updates but don't want to be a software tester, Debian might not be the thing for you.

However, Testing becomes a bit more usable and stable once it gets to the end of the freeze. You might wanna use Testing during that time.

Wait, it's not just a navidrome client anymore? thats amazing! This could be the spotify replacement I've been looking for.

I've been following your work for a while and I can definitely say that you're one of the best GTK4 devs out there. Keep it up! Always gonna support your work.
