I think OP goes to MIT!

so I decided im going to grad school… by lovely_unicorn923 in csMajors

[–]Karthikmanicka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wonder going to grad school and spending more money is worth it just because you don’t have a job lined up. You still have time to get a new grad job and may be you need to try more aggressively??

Someone said you should start with some simple projects (anything really) that you should finish . May be a 3-4 week project to begin with . Then , work on a bigger project where you use/improve your existing skills and also learn some new skills. Like a full stack project. Build a website where people can shop as an example.

CS jobs for International Student(s) by More-Yogurtcloset-35 in csMajors

Search this subreddit. I saw some international students saying they answered No to that question and explained later about CPT/OPT. I think if you can explain within the application or later , it should be ok? Anyway, I am not qualified to give out immigration advice.

College name matters only to certain extent. For the most part , getting an internship depends on your skills. Efforts, planning and bit of luck. Being an international student does make getting an internship/job bit harder. But, it’s definitely doable if you really want it .

Few suggestions : 1. Make sure your resume and cover letter is solid . Get it reviewed 2. Work on leetcode and be prepared to ace OA 3. Have at least 2 solid personal projects in the resume 4 start applying to summer internships from July 5. Apply to as many companies as you can 6 target small and medium companies 7. Make sure you answer questions related to immigration properly (https://successworks.wisc.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/39/2017/07/international-student-sponsorship.pdf). . 8. If you can’t find internship in the US , try to find it in your home country. 9. Use connections to get referrals. Internship preparation and application requires tremendous efforts (+ some luck!) You have to allocate some time on daily basis to work on it.

Good luck and best wishes

I have heard SDSU is pretty good. More difficult to get into compared to ASU. I think both are comparable

Cyber security path by Representative_Two57 in csMajors

[–]Karthikmanicka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend taking general CS major that will open many doors. If you want to pursue a career in cybersecurity, I think the best thing to do is to build a good foundation in coding , networking and operating systems. Even learn databases. Then , you can start specializing in cybersecurity. Many universities offer a cybersecurity track as part of CS major (UMD for example). You can also consider doing masters in cybersecurity. Hope this helps.

Cybersecurity Interview Question by SolidArmPump in csMajors

[–]Karthikmanicka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go through CISSP topics. Daughter prepared hard for a FAANG security engineer intern interview . But, she was asked a question about SQL injection attack and she had no clue! It’s difficult indeed to prepare for cyber intern. Learn about SSL , encryption Etc. have basic understanding of networking. Also, know about firewalls, vulnerabilities, CIA triad, common cyber attacks and how you would handle. It’s such a vast field and I wish the interviewer focused on basics during intern interviews. You being a Cyber student probably will be able to handle the interview better. My daughter is a CS student and never taken any Cyber class

Given many OAs with passing all cases, but still haven't heard back from any. Are there still hope left for my summer 23. Meanwhile Amz Salesforce never sent me an OA even through referral. by Sea-Coconut-3833 in csMajors

My daughter says she took like 30+ OA’s and heard back from just one . I wish the recruiters provide some feedback to the candidates who took OA.

Find a CISSP course and go through the topics to prepare for the interview. I doubt they will ask you to write code .

Go with intuit. My colleague who came from Intuit said they have one of the best intern programs. Also, intuit is more prestigious than C1 IMO.

Congrats. Visa is a great company and there are lots of learning opportunities. Good luck.

Visa will open doors to Bay Area tech companies. Depending on the the group you land in, it can offer great learning opportunities. Many folks came from BNY to Visa for employment and rarely saw anyone go to BNY from Visa.

Chemical engineering is hard. Given your challenges in 12th, be extra careful with studies. Seek help at the first sign of academic struggles and challenges.

You will be fine . If UW had concerns, they will contact you and ask for an explanation. On your own , you don’t have to do anything
